Very enjoyable, a lot of walking, enjoyed the pizza for lunch, was disappointed not to have time to check out the souvenir shops at Pompeii
We booked a tour for Pompei and Vesuvius from Naples to save any logistical headaches getting between the two locations in one day ( 9.30 on May 11th). We were almost at the end of a 3 week trip and this was the only tour we booked; everything else was diy. We were hanging around the pick up point while the girl (whose name I still don’t know, since she didn’t introduce herself) had very loud conversations with different drivers and loaded up groups. I get it, these situations are chaotic, but eventually got on the minibus. We set off, and it was obvious from the road signs we were headed to Vesuvius first, but no one gave us any official indication of this. There was no information provided either about the itinerary, the area, the city, or Vesuvius itself. It was a bit ambiguous as to whether we would be provided with a guide at the top, but we were sent off and told to be back in two hours. Fair enough, it’s just a walk after all, some information about the volcano would have been nice though! Back on the bus two hours later, still no communication from the representative or driver, we were greeted at Pompei by a girl from the site itself. She gave out lunch tickets and told us to come back to that spot to collect audio guides and be back at the bus for 4.20. Very disappointing, all the tour reviews we had read about the tour indicated we would get an in person experience, we could have got ourselves there and had more than two hours for the same price. To make matters worse, when we got back our bus, and company rep, did not reappear. We were picked up by another driver. Sure, we got back on time etc but there was no opportunity to discuss our dissatisfaction with the company rep. Poor communication all day, would not recommend. Nothing more than a glorified taxi service!
Well, a taxi service with entrance tickets, audioguides and lunch included :-) By the way I'm sorry you didn't appreciate the service but we provided exactly what we advertise, maybe you are right about poor communication by the staff and we will try to improve it. Regards
We made a quick tour of the center of Naples, we stopped for some photos, then we went to Pompeii and Vesuvius. The exchange of guides left us worrying, but in the end it all worked out. The guide Michelle who made the tour in Pompeii was the "cake cherry" - excellent!
crazy and scary driving. the air conditioner not great. the female guide was late and extremely rude. she was on her phone most of the tour. she said in something in Spanish and i said i didn’t understand. she promptly and rudely said she was talking to me. would not recommend that guide. and without better air conditioning, would not recommend the tour
Dear Customer could you be so kind to indicate us if you are talking about the guide in Pompeii or the one on Vesuvius? Thanks for your help
Bring your walking shoes and make sure you are in shape as the walk to see the volcano is a steep uphill climb. Pompeii is more gentle but still needs proper walking shoes no high or even low heals
It was nice to see various neighborhoods in Naples. All of Pompeii was fantastic with a great guide. Climbing Mt. Vesuvius was amazing!
We have done Viator tours in the past so opted for this one without thinking. Overall the trip was done very professionally and was kept on time BUT the trip itinerary was not good at all. Only thing we remember is how exhausted we were feeling as if we will get a heat stroke!! Walking 3-3.5 hrs in scorching heat during peak afternoon in Pompeii was just too much. We wondered why they didn’t utilize the entire morning in going first to Pompei when it would have been cooler? Instead we lost a lot of time in Naples city tour. Secondly, one guide with nearly 15 of us was too many. It was difficult to catch up. There should be a shorter version of the tour for those who do not have the stamina or that much interest to hear so many details. At Vesuvius we were given 1 hr 15 min to climb up and come back that too at the end of an already exhausting and extremely hot day. It was just not a well planned itinerary. Viator should seriously think about starting early with a shorter version of the Pompei tour and finish Vesuvius early too.
We did the Naples tour first with pick-up, followed by the walking tour of Pompeii. Guide was great, and pick-up/drop off worth it. We also did Vesuvius after the Pompeii walking tour. I would note if you wish to add this, the bus will take you most of the way up. We then had about an hour and 40 minutes to walk approx. 2 km to the top and back down on our own. This could be a lot for some. Trail is crowded with shops and beverages for sale at the top, however. Great way to experience a great site.
The good: Our Naples and Pompeii guide, Maria, was amazing. She interacted with the group and used humor and stories to bring Naples and Pompeii to life. We loved having her as a guide. The bad: The time it took to get the large group organized to start the Pompeii tour was ridiculous - a total hot mess. There are hundreds of people gathered together and parceled out into smaller groups. Lots of wasted time. The lunch was good but rushed and the wait staff was rude. The ugly: Due to the length of time we spent at Pompeii, it only left a little over an hour to climb to the top of Vesuvius. The climb is rigorous, and only a part of our family could complete the climb in the remaining time. There was no guide provided by the tour and no guides within the park that we could see. The tour company did go out of its way to provide a separate van for us to get to Vesuvius or else we would have missed that part of the tour before having to get back to the cruise ship. We would have rated this lower if Maria wasn't so good.
I recommend the company through which I arranged this trip. Nice guide, well and clearly speaking. I learned a lot of interesting facts and gained knowledge. Everything very well organized, meal included. Pickup from the place and delivery to the place. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
