This was a phenomenal experience and a must do for animal lovers. We snorkeled in June and the water was fine, about 52 degrees Fahrenheit. The dolphins were super talkative and playful and we saw about 100 of them swimming around is. Our boat guides Nick and Vick were extremely helpful, especially for my friend, which it was his first time snorkeling. We both had a blast!
Brilliant review of a brilliant experience - like you I cannot believe how incredible how warm the weather has been for the winter month of June. Even the dolphins are enjoying it - so pleased they were playful and talkative.
Early drive from Christchurch to Kaikoura, but Carmen our driver was great. Once there we got some time to explore the town before 1230pm checkin for swimming with dolphins. Dolphin encounter took us to where native wild dolphins and drop us off snorkeling. It was exhilarating, then another 2 hours drive back to Christchurch for dinner.
Thank you for your comments and thank you for highlighting Carmen. It is a big day with a lot to see, hear and do. Sounds like you had a fabulous time.
The staff was excellent, the experience is wonderful. We saw many, many dolphins. I would recommend this activity to everyone.
Brilliant review - thank you. And so pleased you saw heaps of dolphins - see you next time.
The dolphin swim itself was amazing! Logistics were a little lacking. This particular tour itself with the hotel pickup actually picks up multiple tour participants at 7am. The dolphin swim itself happens at around 12-12:30pm, but you’re picked up at 7am for other whale tours that start at 9-10am, leaving you wandering around until your tour starts. The itinerary was not shared at all beforehand. The driver and car were very pleasant though! As for the experience itself, we saw dolphins multiple times in the water. The guides were very kind. However, the boat itself was very small for the number of participants. There was almost no space to get changed. People are pretty squished body to body to try and unload their wetsuits. They definitely crowded more people in than what’s comfortable.
Thank you for your review and your comments are noted which we have passed on to the cruise company we deal with. They have just changed ownership hands so are in the midst of making some positive changes for a more positive future experience. We appreciate your comments.
We were very lucky with the weather as it was so calm. The whole trip was amazing from carmin, the lady driver who picked us up to the staff who were all great. Very professional. We saw so many dolphins. Definitely recommend this trip
Awesome review after an awesome trip. Thank you for sharing your experiences. See you next time!
We actually booked a ‘ dolphin watch ‘ trip and only when we arrived did we know it was completely geared to swimming. We were supposed to leave at 8.30 am but it took until 9.30 to get everyone into wet suits. Once out on the water the whole trip revolved around the swimmers - what was right for them etc. multiple people were sea sick so that didn’t help. Have to say the staff were exceptionally kind but they need a separate trip for swimmers and watchers
Thank you for the review and feedback which we have passed on to the provider. I know they try and balance the experience with swimmers and non-swimmers. Your comments are noted.
This was the most incredible experience. Andrew our driver was awesome, the skippers Shae and Harry were so friendly and funny. Would definitely recommend bringing a gopro or hiring the ones they have to capture the true magic of the swim. I got sea sick on the way back with another lady and they looked after us so well, take some sea sick tablets if you have any doubts about getting sick! I would recommend this to everyone, the swim was amazing and Kaikoura is such a beautiful place to visit in general.
Thank you for taking the time to submit your review which are valuable to us to ensure we meet and where possible exceed our customers expectations. I do hope you do have the opportunity to visit New Zealand again at some future date.
Stephanie, our guide to Kaikoura and back was incredible. She was friendly, warm, knowledgeable and great to chat to. We had a fabulous time hanging with her. The trip itself was very well organized. We had a mild-medium sea sickness warning -- I did not think that the ride on the boat was actually that nauseating, however diving into the ocean while the motor is running and creating gentle waves was a little bit nauseating. Would recommend some ginger tablets. The folks from the diving experience were also great, all equipment is provided, and they can give you a little info chat if you're feeling a bit nervous about how to use your snorkelling gear. The dolphins are lovely - it feels magical to be able to see them so close... Go diving if you are feeling upto the adventure, but watching from the deck is probably also equally magical and perhaps even a bit less nauseating.
Thanks for the review and pleased you had a great and enjoyable day.
Swimming with dolphins is a dream. Not so easy (depending on the weather of course) but definitely worth it and you should try it. The transport company is perfectly coordinated for the times, the company for the dolphins is impeccable, professionals and they offer you the security you need (both materially and psychologically)
Kiaora Konstantino and thank you for leaving a review. I am pleased tonhear that you enjoyed your tour with us!
Swimming with hundreds of wild dolphins is truly magical. Seeing so many schools of them playing in the ocean is just beyond word description.
