El Museo honra la memoria de los 29 uruguayos que perecieron en los Andes en 1972, cuando su avión se estrelló en su camino desde Montevideo a Santiago de Chile. Esta exposición también está dedicada a los 16 compañeros que "volvieron a la vida" después de haber soportado 72 días infernales en las peores condiciones imaginables. (ver película y / o libro: "Viven") La exposición incluye fotos, documentos, pertenencias personales y restos de aviones, entre otros artículos relevantes. Una línea de tiempo proporciona una cuenta del día a día de los eventos que tuvieron lugar en el "Valle de las Lágrimas", durante esos interminables 72 días.

El museo está ubicado en un edificio del siglo XIX en el centro histórico de la ciudad de Montevideo, que fue declarado patrimonio nacional. La exhibición incluye fotos, documentos, pertenencias personales y restos de aviones, entre otros artículos relevantes. Una línea de tiempo proporciona un recuento diario de los eventos que tuvieron lugar en el "Valle de las Lágrimas", así como de los eventos importantes que ocurrieron al mismo tiempo en otras partes del mundo, durante esos interminables 72 dias. 400 metros cuadrados, 40 paneles bilingües, 30 gabinetes, varias pantallas y escombros originales, le muestran todos los hechos relevantes sobre esta historia única de supervivencia. Beautiful experience. I went to spend my birthday in Montevideo and chose this city mainly to go and see the Museum. It's very complete and exciting to be there.
The exhibition is impacting. You can feel the suffering, despair and the terrible cold that the survivors faced. But with their strength, unity, and courage they went in search of a miracle! I cried a lot reading the letters to the family, makes us reflect a lot, how fragile life is!
It is a museum that explains in great detail what the survivors and the deceased experienced in the tragedy of the Andes. The stories, the wreckage of the plane, the personal belongings... everything that's on site is really moving. Also everything dedicated to the Chilean muleteer who was the first to find them. Rarely when you go to a museum do you experience so many emotions.
Even if you are not familiar with this incredible story of the 1972 plane crash & survival in the Andes this museum is well worth a visit. I read 'Alive' by Piers Paul Read in my early twenties so I knew a lot of what transpired. The exhibits are excellent & there are so many personal items belonging to the crash survivors as well. In the basement there is a chamber that re-creates the temperatures the crash victims experienced during their enforced stay on the mountain. Well worth a visit
