Amazing experience! We enjoyed every moment. The wine tasting was informative and entertaining. We were not rushed and felt like family. Thank you for an amazing day trip which added so much to our vacation. Monsaraz was breathtaking and the history you shared made it come alive! Obrigada!
We had a great guide, Fabrizio, who was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the trip. He knew the answers to all our questions
Picked up from the city centre, Favio took us on a tour, but it was as if he had picked up some friends to take them there, such was the friendly banter between us! We visited a traditional artisanal pottery village, which probably had not changed for over a century, and then on to Monsaraz…a charming little village perched on top of hill, with a 360 deg panoramic vista, narrow cobbled streets lined with white-washed houses, a church and even a bullring! The castle fortifications date back to the 1340’s when the Knights Templar arrived, give it a special place in history. To complete the tour, a wine tasting with Ervideira Wine provided an hilarious finale to our visit. A ‘must-do’ tour from Evora!
We spent a great morning travelling around the Alentejo region with the friendly Joao. He has great knowledge and made the trip really interesting. The wine tasting at Monsaraz was excellent. Would highly recommend.
Joao the tour leader was amazing. Picked us up in Evora and showed us a local pottery business, then took us to Monsaraz to explore, and then for a wine tasting at a winery. Joao provided a ton of information about each place and life in the antelejo region and was a pleasure to chat with. Highly recommend this tour or another through his company.
My husband and I have done many tours with João and they are always an amazing experience. We recently did the Monsaraz tour with some friends visiting from the USA with Joao’s colleague, Martin, as our guide. We had a wonderful day and even though this was my fourth time on this tour I learned a lot more! Martin was very personable and had lots of knowledge and fun/interesting facts about the sites we visited. It was a great day and our guests were very happy they had done the tour!
Great tour of towns in the Alentejo region. The small group tour provided an opportunity to get out of city into the countryside. Evora is picturesque and Monsaraz was charming with great views of the river and Spain. Our guide kept us engaged and provided insights into Portugal's history and culture. The tour was complete with a wine tasting.
This was our 2nd tour with Backcountry Evora Tourism tours and this time our guide was James ("Noo Noo). He arrived on time and we were lucky it was just the two of us with our guide. We rode in comfort through the beautiful countryside outside of Evora with interesting commentary along the way about Evora, tourism, cork industry and so much else. The stop at the family owned pottery business was special, getting to see the artisans at work and we purchased a few small items to take home making them even more meaningful. We leisurely wandered the beautiful town of Monsaraz on our own, enjoying the small cobblestone streets, white washed buildings, the city walls and the bull fighting ring! After meeting up with our guide again, we had a very nice wine tasting at Ervideira Wine Shop. We sampled several of the wines and learned about the wine that they ferment under water. Getting to enjoy a glass of wine on the rooftop terrace with magnificent views was the best way to end the day. Highly recommend this tour and Backcountry Evora Tourism Tours
A lovely morning out; great to see the rolling Alentejo countryside and Monsaraz is beautiful (even in the rain); wine tasting excellent; driver/guide was good but his English let him down a ltiitle
Had a great day. Ended up being a private tour for the two of us. Loved the pottery stop, the monsaraz Visit and the wine tasting. Fun entertaining and informative. Got a great recommendation for dinner as well!
