A bad start to an amazing experience

Bad start when no one came to collect us at 5AM. Very luckily our friend was around and drove us like mad last minute to the 6AM train that starts the whole day off. I would suggest you work out how long it would take u to get to the train station yourself and call the organisers with plenty of time if no one turns up as scheduled and not leave it to lazy timing. If u miss that 6am train the whole thing is off. HOWEVER - we literally ran into the train in the last seconds and from there it was a jaw dropping experience , even the train across amazing Tanzania countryside - the pick up with the guide and driver was all fine. Really relaxed friendly guide , it’s a couple of hours to the park and then we saw animal after animal , baboons , zebras giraffes - luckily saw some lions - you definitely get close enough to see but we had borrowed some binoculars which meant you could really observe the faces of the giraffes and the details of the zebra prints. You will be knackered by the end but it’s amazing . We forgot all about the morning panic and only have unbelievable memories

Perfectly organized and affordable

The organization was really excellent! We were picked up on time at the hotel in Dar es Salaam, our train tickets came conveniently in advance via WhatsApp, and the journey by express train to Morogoro took only about 100 minutes. Our driver Richard was already waiting for us there – he doesn’t speak much, but was reliable and safe on the road. After about two hours in the jeep, we reached Mikumi National Park – and it was simply impressive! We got incredibly close to the animals: Lions up close, lots of giraffes, elephants, zebras, buffaloes and antelopes – almost like a movie scene. The six hours of safari flew by, full of exciting moments and photographic subjects. The smoke in the air was a bit exhausting because grass is being burned off around the park – that irritated my eyes a bit, but of course the organizer can’t help it. Lunch was simple but perfectly fine. For the price – it’s the cheapest one-day Mikumi excursion from Dar es Salaam – the tour offers an incredible amount. A perfect day for anyone who wants to experience wild animals up close. I would definitely book this tour again.

FASCINATING AND FEASIBLE

The park is very large, the activity is well carried out and takes place inside the classic 4 × 4 prepared for a complete overview, it feels like being in an open-air cinema, the tour lasts about five hours and then ends in lunch at 1:00 pm.. The sight of the felines is fascinating, practically 5 m away you have lions that touch you.. The park is worth it even if it cannot compete with that of the Serengeti

Day trip to Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park was wonderful. The tour guide was fantastic. Our driver was punctual and kind. The journey is described as 3 hours each way, it is actually 6 hours each way, this was due to traffic. The journey was comfortable, however, it would have been better to have this information to plan appropriately.

Day Trip to Mikumi from Dar

The day trip was amazing. Our driver, Benson, was absolutely great. He was hard working and passionate about his job. He picked us up at 3:00am from the Holiday Inn in Dar es Salaam, drove us to Mikumi, did 2 game drives, and then drove back to Dar es Salaam where he dropped us back off at our hotel. Just to tide you a heads up that this trip is a very intense drive and is not for the faint of heart. There is nothing that Benson could have done differently. Morogoro road is very busy with traffic — no matter what time or day. Our driver overtook truck after truck to ensure that we had the most time possible in the park, but the drive is intense. We arrived back in Dar es Salaam around 9pm. While the drive out takes about 3.5 hours, the return drive is close to 6.5 hours. Props to Benson for staying awake, keeping us safe, and providing and amazing experience. I would 100% recommend if you have a free day in Dar, just know what you are signing up for!

Hello, Thanks for the review, yes the Day trip to Mikumi involves lots of driving, we would like to recommend for overnight stays for those with more time but if you only have a day free it is still a great experience!. Welcome back again.

Small safari - a taste of African wildlife

This is a distance from Dar es Salaam, so if travelling from the city be prepared for a longer day. The Safari is small, but there was a variety of animals and they were seen up close. Lunch was really good! This was a good trip and the closest to me, but it was pricey for what it was. I have been to the Serengeti on a previous trip which is much bigger national park if you have the time to travel that far.

Horrible experience!

Our one day safari started fine as agreed. On the way to Mikumi one of the tyres broke. With bad equipment the tyre replacement took an hour. The morning drive was fine, our guide Richard was good. He told us info about the animals we saw. At lunchtime the driver and another guy drove to Mikumi village to get another spare tyre. That took quite a long time so we had to wait again... Afternoon drive was fun and even if it didn’t last long it was ok. We started the journey back to Morogoro after 4 pm. An hour later yet another tyre broke completely! This time the guys didn’t try to change it but said that there would be a car coming from Morogoro to pick us. Our driver said that it would take 45 minutes. Finally after waiting for the car for 2 hours and 30 minutes the car arrived. The wait was awful it was getting dark eventually, we were tired, hungry and thisty. Guys did not have any extra water for us. The refreshments included to the tour were just three small bottles of water and that plus our own waters were gone already. We were back in our hotel at 8:30. So... our evening plans were ruined. Next day I tried to negotiate some compensation for the waiting etc. with Majenda. All he would do was to give us 30 $ reduction of the 370 $ tour. Altogether the tour would have been just fine if the company’s vehicles were in decent condition and safe.

Hello Thanks for the review about our services. Yes during your tour there were delays due to broken tires. The first one the driver had to change and use a spare tire and during lunch they had to go to Mikumi to repair the tire and spare tire, to be able to continue with drive later on the day. After the second incident the spare tire they had had less air that's why they did not try to change and after they called I had to find another tire to bring when bring you the other vehicle to take you to Morogoro. Sometimes things happens that you don't plan to happen, all we would have wanted was for you to have great safari experience. After this tire incidents we have changed all our tires and Spain tires too into new tires to enable our customers to have good experience and safe rides during their safari. Again we are very sorry for the bad experience you had, you are welcome to try us again and experience a different side of our services. Majenda for watusafaris
