We had the most incredible experience at La Leona!! We came on our first day in town, felt overwhelmed by the options in the area, and landed on this tour- and so glad we did! Started at the office of the tour where we were given a thorough run down of what we should expect for the day, then we were off. Ramses was our guide, and we truly think we got the best guide of all!! He was spirited and passionate, and so educated about the flora and fauna!! He pointed out every detail along the way, and had answers to every question we had. The journey itself was amazing- through rocky water to the most rewarding waterfall finish! Truly a once in a lifetime excursion. Ramses knows this hike inside and out, and knew the cool ways to go to see caves filled with bats, as well as point out cool insects and plants. He also quite literally scales the side of the waterfall and dove into the heart of the fall, which impressed every person in the area. ended the day at the thermal springs, which were stunning and so relaxing. we met Mario and Andrea at the pool bar who were so warm and hospitable, made us feel like family and made amazing drinks! All together the most special day we will never forget
Had so much fun!! This day started with our fabulous driver Fabio picking us up from our hotel. Traffic was actually very light and we had some free time before the excursion started and he was able to take us to a local store and to a Walmart to grab some essentials and souvenirs. The waterfall was so beautiful and it was quite the adventure getting there! Lots of climbing and swimming. I definitely don’t recommend this to people with mobility issues but our guide helped us along the way and had lots of fun facts. The water was so beautiful, and there are actually no fish or anything that lives in the water because of the sulfur (from the volcanos) content not being compatible with life (but don’t worry, it doesn’t smell like sulfur). We also went at a perfect time because we really only encountered one other group headed the same way as us. Fabio then took us for a lunch that was super yummy. You had multiple options on what you wanted to eat (beef, pork, chicken, fish, vegetarian) and everything came with a salad, rice, water, and a fresh juice (two choices of juice) if I remember correctly. there was even a local bakery next-door to the restaurant and my husband picked up some pastries for us to try. We were never rushed, and we just told Fabio when we were done eating and he took us to the Hot Springs. Honestly, I was scared. The hot springs were a scam (man made hot springs, man made “ volcanic mud”) but I was very wrong. You can see the water boiling out of the ground lol! There were pools of different temperatures but all were very warm. That atmosphere was very picturesque and a stream went through the pools that was very cool and refreshing. I was honestly surprised how soft the mud bath left my skin. And it was definitely legit mud because there were some twigs and pebbles in it lol. Again, Fabio dropped us off, told us a little bit about the place, showed us his favorite secret spot, and let us hang out as long as we wanted until we said we were ready to go. This was such an amazing day!!
You will absolutely love this experience. There is three parts and each one is amazing. First you take a hike through privately owned land and cross rivers and jump into ponds. Second, you make it to the La Leona Waterfall which is absolutely stunning. Lastly, you each lunch then hit the Hot Springs for a Volcanic Mud Bath. I want to give a special shoutout to our guide Joshua who was extremely knowledgable and gave us a personalized tour and told us some unique stories about Costa Rica. I highly recommend this experience.
This was a highlight of our trip! Not only did our guide teach us about the different wildlife, he brought us through a fun and challenging hike to the most incredible blue water swimming holes, rivers and waterfalls! The lunch was incredible and the mud and hot springs did not disappoint. Highly recommend. Berny and his team are top notch amazing.
We did a combination of la Leona waterfall, and mudbaths and hot springs with a tour of the Ricon de la Veija park. The only reason I’m giving this experience a 4 and not a 5 is because I was unable to pull myself to the fall as the current was to strong. But the hike to the fall is such a fun experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a thrilling adventure. Several river crossings involved and beautiful scenery. The highlight for me was the hot springs and definitely the conversations with Bernie the owner of Colorado adventure who was our guide for the activities other that la Leona waterfall
The guide went well beyond the requirements to shepherd a 78 year old and an 80 year old through the experience. Whether dragging us upstream with his floating rope and making sure we knew which rock or next step or handhold to take next. he was awesome. The termites, the volcanic face paint, and his perseverance were amzaing.
Absolutely wonderful experience!! Communication was great and we knew exactly where to go to meet our tour guide. The owner spoke wonderful English and our guide, Ronny, was the best guide we could have ever asked for. He was friendly, funny and full of interesting information. He helped us to navigate easily and the waterfalls were gorgeous 😍. Zip line was also amazing and over the most beautiful river. Would 100% recommend
