Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. We arrived very early, checked in, and were told to go down to the beach and wait for our kayak tour. We followed the instructions and waited there. The guide eventually showed and was there for a while so we were just waiting for instructions. She suddenly left without saying anything so we were asked by other people what time our tour was, and when we told them, we were informed that our tour had already left. We were told to go back, meaning we never got to take the tour at all. What was especially frustrating was that we had arrived early and followed the instructions we were given, so this could have easily been avoided with better communication from the staff. We also paid $8 for a locker that we only needed for the tour.
My husband and I have recently moved to San Diego and wanted a guided tour to more comfortably explore La Jolla before getting around ourselves. We took the 2PM tour and got a solid 2hrs of kayaking and snorkeling at 2 spots. Snorkeling will always depend on visibility, but even without the best on the day, our guides Zac and Bryan did their best to find good spots for us -- and we were lucky enough to see some sharks! Overall, good value for money, very kind and thoughtful service. Highly recommend!
My family and I had a wonderful experience. The kayaking part was somewhat strenuous but doable. We all were divided among double kayaks. Our tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The snorkeling experience was enjoyable. We did not get to see any leopard sharks, but were able to see a lot of garibaldi. Snorkeling right by the sea lions made for a memorable adventure. The water was cold at first even with the wetsuits, but we acclimated not long after. Overall, I would recommend this excursion.
We loved our kayak and snorkel tour. Our guides, Berkley and Anthony were great. They were very knowledgeable, humorous, and watched out for us carefully. We brought our kids with us, two of whom are 9, so we really appreciated their patience and help.
We waited 10 min for a late family, a ton of time talking about the area and kayaking, and a very small time snorkeling - which included zero instruction and while some people were still struggling with getting acclimated with the snorkels and the water, both guides took off with a group to a cave to explore while slower people were left behind. This was a complete waste of time and money.
My guide Hal had extensive information and some anecdotes about the plants and animals we spotted, and we spotted lots: garibaldi, horn shark, sheepshead wrasse, ray, spiny lobster, and more. The cave was dramatic with entry timed between large swells, but it was beautiful in there. Paddling took extra effort at times due to cross currents, but it was doable. Be prepared to reenter your kayak from the water, not a graceful thing. But it was worth it, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Guide came across very disinterested to be there. Also I felt left behind a few times. There’s a few different tours running simultaneously and there were definitely a few times I turned around to find my guide had left me behind. Also, received nearly no instruction concerning snorkeling.
Beth was an excellent tour guide as well as Roman. We really enjoyed the tour and would be willing to come back. 10 out of 10
The waves were super bad and we didn’t get to go into the caves due to the high tide, the water wasn’t clear like the advertised picture but was able to sea a few leopard sharks and stingrays. The gal who took us was amazing and very knowledgeable and funny. She made us feel safe and comfortable.
Very educational and physical journey to view So Cal ocean biome of La Jolla Cove up close, aboard a kayak. We saw many Leopard sharks, orange Garabaldi, hulking sea lions, sea urchins and small fishes amongst the waving sea grasses. The cormorants, sea gulls and pelicans flew above us in a warm, sunny sky. The ocean water was cool, but our full wetsuits kept us toasty. My arms, shoulders, back and legs were tested by paddling through mild ocean waves. I thought I was a fairly fit old guy, but after 2+ hours of paddling, I realized my core needs to be strengthened big time. A cold beer rounded out my day on the water. Bethany, the instructor was informative, funny and a fit paddler, who helped me navigate this water wonderland. Thanks for an awesome experience. Chris Brown
