The Culinary Backstreets tour was worth every penny! Our guide, Constantine, was excellent. It was great to hear about Greek food and food history from someone who was born and raised there. Every stop along the tour was perfect. Our biggest mistake was taking the tour on our last full day in Athens. Had we known what we know now, we would have done this on the first day. Constantine was full of recommendations for restaurants, places to buy good Greek souvenirs, slightly less touristy places to visit, and some to stay away from. He also explained how Culinary Backstreets works. All tours are supposed to focus on true local establishments and not large chain locations. We will make it a point to check out other tours in other cities we travel too... and do it on the first day. Would 100% recommend.

We did the Sunday Feast tour on July 5th and our guide was very funny and charming. We had a lovely time chatting with her, walking through the streets and eating incredible foods. Everything we ate was delicious and the itinerary was very thoughtful and well-balanced. Our guide was also an expert in archeology and the cultural and historical context she provided made for a richer, fuller understanding of the meals we were eating. I was honestly skeptical about the value when we booked the tour but I’m so glad that we ended up doing it.

My husband and I booked this tour after loving two similar tours in Istanbul by the same company. Our guide in Athens was Natali, who was totally engaging. The other guests were a father and his adult sons. To start, Natali was so friendly and approachable. She gave us a little bit of Greek history to begin our walk. At each stop, she explained the food and its importance in Greek history or culture. We sampled so many foods! In between we walked and explored different neighborhoods. I especially enjoyed that we were off the beaten path. It was lovely! We never felt rushed and there was a ton of food. We each got a book with pictures and a listing of recommended restaurants in Athens. That will definitely come in handy the rest of our trip!
Thank you so much for joining our Moveable Sunday Feast — and for coming back to explore with us again after your Istanbul tours! We truly appreciate your loyalty and it’s always such a pleasure to see familiar faces discovering new cities through our walks. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time with Natali. We take great pride in working with guides who are not only knowledgeable but also deeply connected to the places they call home, and Natali is exactly that. It’s wonderful that you appreciated how food, history, and culture are intertwined throughout the tour — that is exactly what we are going for. We’re also so glad you liked wandering a bit off the beaten path and that your little book of recommendations will continue to be useful during your stay in Athens. This was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Our guide Natali was very knowledgeable about the history of Greece and how that influenced the foods in Greece. All the foods we tried were delicious and many I had never tried or heard of before. The group stopped at several different establishment and had a lovely stroll between each that allowed Natali to provide a history of the city of Athens. It was a food and history tour all rolled into one. After this experience I want to try Culinary Backstreet tours in my country and any other countries I might visit!
