This was one of the best tour experiences I’ve ever had, and Rina is the reason why. Over nearly 5 packed hours, she delivered an overwhelming amount of history and mythology in the best possible way. She’s enthusiastic, welcoming, and visibly passionate about her subject in a way that elevates the entire experience. Despite the crowds, she handled a mid-sized group with ease, took questions constantly, and never lost her energy or focus. The mythology and history of each structure came alive in a way no guidebook could replicate. Five stars without hesitation.
Hi Matthew! Wow, thank you so much for such an incredible review! Hearing that this was one of the best tour experiences you’ve ever had is the ultimate compliment. Rina is truly exceptional, and we love that her boundless energy, enthusiasm, and passion for history and mythology made the ancient world come alive for you. It takes a special talent to guide a group through the crowds for five hours while keeping everyone engaged and answering endless questions, and we are so proud to have her on our team. Thank you for your high recommendation and five-star review! Warmly, Athens Walking Tours Team
We stayed a couple days in Athens before getting on our Cruise and this was a do-not -miss tour that ran in a couple different segments. We started with our first guide in the old town, saw ruins in the Metro station, Changing of the Guards, the Queens Gardens, with an excellent young woman tour guide who is a native to Athens. We were very impressed with her vast knowledge of the history of Athens and the development of world history. After a nice coffee/frozen yogurt break we then met up with our second guide Sophia (also native to Athens) and were given a crash course on the Acropolis. Sophia delighted with her tales of the birth of modern medicine (Hippocrates), modern theater (the Thespians), and the birth of modern democracy, citizenship and community involvement/enjoyment/wine (Dionysus). The views and structures were amazing to see. The climb is moderate (be advised) but very worth it. We left with an increased appreciation for what the ancient Athenians contributed to the development of our world culture. Due to jet lag we had to cut short the last portion of the tour (the Acropolis Museum) but this is worth seeing if you have the stamina.
Hi Alice! Thank you so much for the wonderful, detailed review! We are happy to hear that our tour was a "do-not-miss" highlight of your pre-cruise stay in Athens. It is fantastic that you enjoyed both segments of your day—from exploring the city highlights, metro ruins, and the Changing of the Guards with your first guide, to diving into the fascinating stories of democracy, medicine, and theater with Sophia. We love that their native knowledge and passion gave you a deeper appreciation for ancient Athenian culture! Thank you also for the practical tips about the moderate stroll and the stamina needed for the museum—jet lag is no joke, but we are glad the rest of the experience was well worth it. We hope the rest of your cruise was amazing! Warmly, Athens Walking Tours Team
Excellent. Very attentive guide. Even not missing the Portuguese, we understand well the Spanish spoken by him.
Thank you so much for your kind review! We are delighted to hear that you had an excellent experience exploring the Acropolis and the Museum with us. It is wonderful that our guide’s attentiveness and clear communication helped bridge the language gap so effectively. We strive to make our tours accessible and engaging for all our international guests, and we are glad the Spanish commentary worked well for you. Warmly, Athens Walking Tours Team
After using my $30 sign up credit, this tour cost me $1. Best $1 ever. I took the city tour followed by the Acropolis with the Acropolis museum, all guided. This is the best way to familiarize with the civic area and visit the Acropolis. Cheapest with the best tour guides. We did skip the lines. (Summertime may be different) If you are on a cruise, take a taxi or the metro to the meeting point and don't waste money on an expensive excursion.
Hi Tomo, thank you for the fantastic review! We love that you got such an incredible deal—it truly was the best $1 ever spent! We are so glad our guided city tour, Acropolis, and Museum walk helped you get familiar with the heart of Athens. Your tip for cruise travelers to use a taxi or metro is a great "pro tip" for saving money while still getting a high-quality, skip-the-line experience. Warmly, Athens Walking Tours Team
Andrea was a superb guide! She knew so much about every aspect of our trip, from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to the Acropolis to the Acropolis Museum. She told many funny stories and was able to make the ancients come alive with her explanations and stories. I would recommend her service to anyone!
Hello, Thank you for such a nice review! We’re pleased to hear how much you enjoyed exploring the city, the Acropolis, and the museum with Andrea. Her knowledge, humor, and storytelling truly help bring ancient Athens to life, and it’s lovely to know that came through during your tour. We really appreciate your recommendation! Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team
We did the 6-hour the Athens city tour, Acropolis& Acropolis Museum tour -- a full day, but totally engaging. Our guide, Apollon, was fantastic: knowledgeable, in love with his city and its history and eager to share it. He was a great storyteller, and with his stories made history and ancient people come alive. He was full of little known facts on word derivations, scientific abilities of the times, etc. He was also closely attentive to the needs and interests of his group: including children in his stories, alert to the needs of older tourists or those who might need extra help, without making them feel he was inconveniencing either him or the rest of the group. I highly recommend Apollo and Athens Walking Tours, and we would be delighted to take another tour with Apillon.
Hello, Thank you for such a thoughtful and generous review. A full day exploring the city, the Acropolis, and the museum is quite a journey, and we’re delighted to hear it felt engaging from start to finish. Apollon truly has a gift for weaving history, language, and science into stories that bring the ancient world to life. We’re especially glad you noticed how attentive he is to everyone in the group — from the youngest explorers to those who may need a gentler pace. Your recommendation means a great deal to us, and we would be thrilled to welcome you back for another walk through Athens. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team
We did the walking tour that included early entry at the Acropolis, the museum and lunch with a walk around Plakka and nearby areas. Anna was our guide and she was excellent. She had so much knowledge and led us to the pertinent things to look at. As a local, she had so much perspective. I would have never got as much out of the day on my own.
What a wonderful review, thank you! Anna will be happy to know her local insight and thoughtful guidance made your full-day experience feel so rich and well-paced. Exploring the Acropolis, the Museum, and the winding streets of Plaka with someone who can decode the layers of the city truly changes the day. We’re delighted you felt the difference. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team
We had 2 tour guides and both were incredible!! Ask for Yota & Annie if taking this tour. You will not forget it!
Hi Christina, What a wonderful message — thank you! We’re pleased to hear that both Yota and Annie made such a lasting impression. They each bring their own spark to the stories of Athens, and it’s great to know their passion and knowledge made your experience unforgettable. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team
A lovely way to see the city and learn the endless history present! Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We only wish we had more time on top of the acropolis to wander and admire the views before continuing on to the museum.
Hi Sydney, Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed exploring Athens and uncovering its endless history with our knowledgeable and friendly guide. We completely understand your wish for more time atop the Acropolis—it’s such a breathtaking place to take in the views! Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team
Overall, very good. However, the first portion of the tour was mediocre, at best, which was a "tour" through the subway station with a rapid fire narrative with an assortment of random facts without context or story, followed by a walk through a park with similar disjointed narrative. The tour of the Acropolis and museum was excellent with an engaging guide. Suggest only the Acropolis and museum tour.
Dear Wayne, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear that the Acropolis and museum portion of your tour exceeded expectations. We appreciate your comments about the earlier section and will review how we present that part to ensure it’s more cohesive and engaging for future guests. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team
