I was looking for a tour that didn’t take up more than half a day, and kunanyi/Mount Wellington was perfect. Pickup was punctual, and our guide, Tony, kept up a live commentary almost the entire journey. He was so smooth I honestly thought it was a recording at first! His dad jokes were gloriously cheesy and gave us a few good chuckles along the way. We waited at the holding area for about 30 minutes while vehicles came down from the summit, but we lucked out because it started snowing. Right place, right time! By the time we reached the summit, the flurries had stopped and the wind was absolutely bonkers. We only managed about 10 minutes up there. I would’ve loved more time, but we’d already been told at the start that conditions could change. Overall, a well-run tour with a great guide. I’m giving it 4 stars only because I wished we could have stayed at the summit longer, but everything else was great. No worries — I’d happily recommend it.
I really enjoyed the day trip . The guide was very nice and helpful.
It will be much colder than you think . Rug up. Wear a beanie, thick gloves, windproof coat and enjoy!
Our family booked the Kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus- Return Tour, we thoroughly enjoyed the tour, the bus, guide and experience met our expectations, we would highly recommend this tour to anyone wishing to visit the Mountain. We have also done the Hobart City/Loop tour previously which was also an enjoyable experience Thanks Red Decker Company :)
We took the bus up to the summit as it was predicted to snow. The driver was awesome and had a funny, informative way of keeping us entertained on the trip. Only odd thing was we drove to meet the bus and were unaware Hobart has terrible parking restrictions - nothing to do with the awesome tour, just a heads up.
Our tour guide/driver Tony is very friendly, knowledgeable guide and highly skilled driver. Despite the weather not being in our favor in the beginning, being foggy and icy, he did his best to cheer people up by sharing stories, jokes and finding a beautiful lyrebird in the bush for everyone to enjoy. Due to icy road we only spent 10 min on the summit which was not enough, but thankfully we made it there at the end. I would encourage the company to tell more about the history of Aboriginal people of Lutruwita - palawa kani. It is my second tour with this company after almost 3 years, not much has changed in terms of this aspect of the tour. Even though there is a brief mention of the First Nations people, it is clearly not sufficient to address 40+ thousand years if continues culture. I'm sure Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre will be happy to support the effort in putting this part of the audio tour together.
Hello Veronika L. Thank you for your thoughtful review and for choosing to travel with us again. We're delighted to hear Tony's friendly personality, local knowledge, and skilled driving helped make the day enjoyable despite the challenging weather. It's wonderful that spotting a lyrebird added a special moment to your experience. We also sincerely appreciate your considered feedback regarding the inclusion of Tasmanian Aboriginal history and culture. We recognise the importance of sharing the rich and continuing story of the palawa people, and we value your suggestion to work with the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. Feedback like yours is invaluable as we continue to review and improve our tour commentary to provide a more meaningful and inclusive experience for our guests. Thank you again for your support, and we hope to welcome you back for another visit in the future. Many thanks. Kind regards. Fiona Tour Manager

My friend and I had an amazing trip in lovely weather, and we will be returning soon with our friends.
Hello Geraldine B. Thank you for your lovely review! We're so pleased you and your friend had an amazing day and were able to enjoy the mountain in such beautiful weather. It's wonderful to hear you're already planning to return with more friends—that's the highest compliment we could receive. For $160 for a 35 minute total time on the mountain, we felt this was grossly overpriced. Looking at the schedule, we planned to get the last departure down the mountain which was after 4pm departure. We departed the city at 2:15pm (bus was 15 mins late to depart) and arrived at 3pm. We were then told that we had to be back at the bus by 3:35pm and that it was the last one for the day. We weren’t aware that it was the last bus and were disappointed that we only had 35 minutes up on the mountain.
Hello Alice M. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear you were disappointed with the amount of time you had to spend on the mountain and that the timing of the final departure on our printed and online material wasn't made clear to you. Our 3.30pm tour departure from the city, which is our 5pm departure from the summit operates October - April, on our Summer schedule when the daytime temperatures are warmer and daylight hours are longer. We understand that 35 minutes at the summit may not meet everyone's expectations, particularly if you're hoping to explore at a more relaxed pace. For those wanting to maximise their time on the mountain we recommend that passengers join our earlier tours in the day. This will allow ample time to hop on and off on the mountain with greater options to rejoin the bus throughout the day. We also apologise for the delayed departure from the city, which further reduced your time to enjoy the mountain. We appreciate your comments, as they highlight the importance of ensuring our schedules and time allocations are communicated are understood prior to travel and that there is ample time to seek any last minute clarification of the schedules with the driver on the day. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope we'll have the opportunity to welcome you back. As is our company policy if you are not 100% happy with your tour experience we offer full tour refunds. If you would like us to arrange this for you please reach out to our office. Many thanks. Kind regards, Fiona Tour Manager
Well paced, driver informative, got to the top when road was closed for private vehicles so well worth doing if you want the best chance of seeing the summit and not having to walk!
Hello Paul_W. Thank you for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the experience and found the tour to be well paced. It's great to know your driver kept you informed throughout the journey, and that you were able to reach the summit while the road was closed to private vehicles—one of the many advantages of travelling with us. Thank you for your recommendation, and we hope to welcome you back on board the next time you're in Tasmania! Many thanks. Kind regards, Fiona Tour Manager
