Kayak por las islas de San Juan - 5 días, isla de San Juan a Anacortes

My friend and I did the 3 day Cypress Island tour on 08/31-09/02 with Nate as our guide. Nate is a friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming guide, and I hope you are able to keep him around for seasons to come. Special thanks to Anacortes Kayaking Tours for being accommodating with my friend’s and I’s trip. We were supposed to go in July, but about 2 weeks before our scheduled departure date, I broke my collarbone making even dressing for the trip impossible. The office was kind enough to reschedule myself and my friend for a tour later in the season when they were well within their right to say “sorry, this happened within 30days of your trip, we can’t help you out with this one” and then take our money and leave us empty-handed. Instead they found an available tour date for the same tour at a date that worked well with my recovery timeline. The other mention I want to give a shout out to is that AKT allows you to upgrade to single kayaks (for a fee). My friend and I have done two other multi day trips with a different kayaking company in the San Juan Islands and upgrading to a single kayak was not an option we were given. Now that I’ve had the experience of driving a single kayak on a multi-day trip, I don’t want to go back to a double! Next summer I hope to do the 5 day trip with a fully revamped collarbone and a kayak all to myself. Hopefully we’ll see Nate around too.

Really good people to work with. Easy to reach, they answered all of my questions. Food was varied, flavorful, and mostly locally produced. Our guide, Ian, was a highly qualified young man, and he delighted in sharing his knowledge with the clients. I did a 5 day one way from Aug 10-14, and will be back again next Summer.

We did the 5-Day One-Way in mid-August. The experience: we already knew we loved the San Juan Islands, and that we loved to kayak and camp. But we were still blown away by the beauty of every lunch spot, every camping spot, and every island we paddled by. Wildlife is a huge draw for us too, and we saw so many wonderful creatures, in their natural environment. The gear: the quality of the kayaks, spray skirts, life vests, tents, pads and pillows was excellent. Makes a big difference to have the right gear! The food: this aspect of the trip was far beyond our expectations. Quite simply, it was amazing. You wouldn’t believe how much fresh, healthy and inventive food you could fit into five kayaks! What could be better than (and who could expect) a crunchy, multi-colored salad, with homemade salad dressing and different optional proteins, on the fourth night of a four-night trip? Or sandwiches on a mountaintop, with a “there made” spread of chickpeas, avocado and lime? The guide: our guide (Mike H.) was also amazing. The amount of hard work was evident: he was up before dawn, he prepped and cooked delicious hot meals for breakfast and dinner, he made lovely lunches, he schlepped our lunch-making ingredients up that mountain, and he guided every aspect of our tour. Yet he was energized, interesting, accommodating and 100% positive. This is a skill and a gift. Getting asked the same questions over and over again, being flexible in the face of changing conditions, and making choices based on our ability and safety—all of these could wear someone down. But if they wore Mike down, he certainly never showed it. He was both eminently qualified and delightful. In all, a memorable, wonderful trip. We hope to return!

We were able to create our own experience with our amazing guide(Ryan!). The paddling was so much fun for our group, and the food was amazing. We camped at some beautiful spots on the islands, and had some time to relax and do some hiking. We saw lots of wildlife, and beautiful sunsets. The weather was perfect and we were very well taken care of. I think we will be making this an annual event. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would!
