El viaje comienza a 560 m sobre el nivel del mar no lejos del corazón del casco antiguo de Innsbruck con sus edificios históricos y el mundialmente conocido "Goldenes Dachl" (techo de oro). Planificado y diseñado por la arquitecta estrella Zaha Hadid, el teleférico Hungerburg, con sus estaciones únicas Löwenhaus y Alpine Zoo, establece nuevos estándares en la arquitectura internacional. What a good way to see the mountains, and also look back down at the city from above! We walked down from Hungerburg to the Alpine Zoo which was a pleasant walk through the woods. Taking off from the city - vertically - is quite a thrill!
Positively subsized for passengers' flow. We couldn't get first travel, and to board the second one we had to push in an lifeboats' run style. I can't understand how they can't limit the number of passengers. It could be dangerous too.
I went up to the first level (if I remember the name Hungerburg correctly) where there is a view of the city, but nothing special... The trip lasted a few minutes, but standing and packed like sardines. The price is definitely too high. Among other things, I could have gotten there by bus, paying much, much less and being more comfortable.

I took this funicular with my husband and 13 year old son in June 2026. The ride was smooth and made a few stops before Hungerburg. We walked around a little bit then decided to walk down to the Alpenzoo. Took about 20 minutes The gravel trail takes you through the trees with beautiful scenery. We were able to walk to a funicular stop near the zoo.
The funicular was unique and enjoyable. The view from the top was amazing. Just what we were hoping for.

It was okay. The only thing that you can do is look over the city. There is one restaurant and a museum and that's it. You can buy the ticket for the zoo that is a station before the Hungerberg. We went yesterday and it was really overcrowded.You can also buy the ticket to the top of Innsbruck but in my opinion it was a bit too much almost 100€ for two people. I wish there would be more to see but it is what it is.
We took the Nordkette cable car to Hungerburg from Innsbruck. There was no wait. The car takes approximately 75 people at a time in 5 or 6 separate cabins. There is no step free access at Hungerburg so you will need to carry any chairs etc. The view from there was great. Toilets available near the top.
