Saliendo de Auckland a las 7 am, tomará un placentero viaje hacia el sur sobre las colinas de Bombay hacia las ricas tierras de cultivo lechero de Waikato, luego girará hacia el este. Una breve parada en una vista elevada sobre las llanuras de Hauraki, con la gama Kaimai Coromandel en la distancia, lo convierte en una gran foto de grupo.
Es completamente sencillo conducir por las llanuras a través de tierras de cultivo hasta una fábrica de productos lácteos en desuso para tomar un café o té. A solo unos minutos por el camino se encuentra el centro de información en Matamata, que se asemeja a una casa de hobbit. Aquí puedes hacer una pose con la estatua de Gollum.
No muy lejos de Hobbiton, donde su guía local lo acompañará a recorrer el plató de la película, que contiene 44 hoyos de Hobbit, la casa de Bilbo: Bag End, el Molino, el puente de doble arco y el árbol de la fiesta. Concluyendo en el Green Dragon, disfrute de una cerveza de cortesía, sidra o jengibre sin alcohol, mientras se sumerge en la atmósfera. Sigue un almuerzo buffet en la marquesina de la fiesta, junto al Dragón Verde.
Saliendo de Hobbiton, nuestro próximo destino es el lago Karapiro y la central hidroeléctrica en el río Waikato para una parada fotográfica, antes de cruzar la presa. El majestuoso 797 m Mt Maungatautari (Montaña del Santuario) asoma en el fondo.
A medida que viajas a través de un pequeño pueblo rural de Nueva Zelanda y te adentras en el "País del Rey", más tierras rodantes, que llevan el nombre del Kīngitanga (Movimiento del Rey Maorí) y sus seguidores durante las Guerras de Nueva Zelanda de los años 1860. En Waitomo, durante su recorrido guiado de 45 minutos a través de la cueva, será testigo de las constelaciones de diminutos y brillantes gusanos, su magnífica catedral y sus estalactitas y estalactitas intrigantes, antes de salir de esta gruta de piedra caliza en barco.

We were thoroughly entertained by our guide Danilo as we wandered around Hobiton. The village itself is an amazing example of imagination and ingenuity. I really loved this place which captured the feeling and tone of scenes from the movies. The video messages seen in the bus to and from really introduced the fondness Jackson has for his country. Well worth the visit.
A great tour would advise everyone to visit this place it is a great day out also called at rotarua hot spring where the meal was cooked in front of you by a moaria lady
Keith was on time to pick us up from our hotel. We were quickly on our way to the attractions that we were interested seeing. We traveled in his Jaguar which was comfortable and pleasant. Keith told us about the areas we drove through, but left the information on Hobbiton and Waitomo to the local guides. I thought we were going to be in a small group tour with others and commentary on where we were going and what we would see, so I was surprised that it was just the two of us with a private driver, not really a tour. We have no complaints about the day, we just were expecting something different. We would recommend Keith to anyone who wanted a private driver. He was kind, courteous, thoughtful and professional. Just be aware of what you are reserving.
