Historia privada de Old Town Alexandria Walking Tour

My excitement for touring Bull Run battlefield, especially for Second Bull Run, was only matched by Tom's excitement wanting to teach my family, friend and myself. He drove us all over the battlefield, answered all of our questions, showed us what and where the significant events were and what the soldiers would have faced. He discussed the strategy of both sides and the impact of such strategies. We just could not have had a more educational, involved and rewarding experience! I hope to have Tom as a tour guide in the future on another battlefield. Johnson Childress
Johnson, Ed, Paul, and Ryan, Thank you for joining me on a discovery at Second Bull Run (Manassas) Battlefield. I'm glad we had such a fine, warm day as it gave us perspective of the experiences of soldiers of both sides. I learned some Civil War facts from each of you as well. Your group was well read and prepared for the day. Thank you and yes, let's discover more Northern Virginia battlefields together in the future. - Tom
Tom was fantastic! Knowledgeable and showed us some hidden gems. We’ll absolutely use him for another tour next time we are in the area.
Tom was a great guide, and so patient answering all our questions. Clearly he knows his History! We would definitely book another one of his tours!
The tour was pleasant, but grossly overpriced, and light on information. Probably would have worked for a larger group with no familiarity with Old Town Alexandria. Time and money would be better spent on a guide book, and in person tours of local properties or one of several specialty walking tours offered by Manumission Tour Company.
Fantastic tour with very knowledgeable guide, not just about Alexandria, but the entire DC area and general American history. Loved how truly dog friendly this tour was. Several indoor stops welcomed dogs. A highlight of our visit. Highly recommended!
Francie, I’m so glad that the two of you finally took a proper history tour of Old Town on your periodic stay. And yes, this is one of the few tours available that’s 100% pooch-friendly. Hopefully, you were able to take advantage afterwards of some discovered indoor venues with your pup. Tom
The historic walking tour of Old Town Alexandria was phenomenal! Tom was very informative and engaging, he is very knowledgeable and makes the history come to life. He personalized the experience for us, answered tons of questions we had, and was very welcoming to our dog who joined us on the tour. I would highly recommend everyone to take the historic walking tour with Tom, you’ll be glad you did! I certainly intend to take his other tours on our next visit!
Maryanna and Igor, Thank you for sharing your pup Daisy with me during our tour. I'm glad she was able to visit our neighborhood florist's dog treat box during our walk. I'm also very glad to have learned about your vocation as special-ed teachers which allowed me to share great experiences my children have personally had with your colleagues. Please come back as I look forward to showing you more in the Washington area on your return visit. - Tom
After a snow storm interrupted our originally scheduled tour, we rescheduled with Tom two days later, and we are so glad we had the chance to meet up with him, and take his engaging, and informative tour! He has a passion for the history of, and a sincere love for this beautiful Colonial and Federal-era city on the banks of the Potomac river. Despite being a DC native, I had not realized the importance of Alexandria in the founding days of our Republic. Tom mixed history and architecture with local lore to offer us a truly fun experience. Thanks so much, Tom, and we hope to cross paths with DC Military Tours again soon!
Julie, You were the most fun clients I have had in awhile. It’s always nice when a fellow guide is a client. I was glad to discover your own families story and how it dovetailed neatly into the history that can be learned about the United States broadly and Alexandria in general. Thank you for your kind review. Please return soon. Tom
Tom is very knowledgeable on the history and personality of Alexandria. Wonderful day walking around the sites in sold Towne. Plenty of opportunities to ask questions and delve into various topics of interest. Tom spent lots of time and we departed as he continued towards home and we towards a delightful lunch!
Tom is a great guide. Amiable and knowledgeable. We learned a lot. We highly recommend this to anyone looking for a pleasant way to learn local history.
Donna, I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope Old Town was the highlight of your visit to Washington. Thank you for introducing me to your daughter and her boyfriend. They live here in a great spot. Best wishes on your safe return trip to St Louis. - Tom
Tom, our tour guide, was the best part of our Old Town Alexandria tour and truly brought its history to life. Our visiting family greatly enjoyed his fun approach, good cheer, and deep knowledge of this historic town. Our night consisted of a well-timed walkabout, interesting for all ages, banks, architecture, an apothecary museum, the most historic cobblestone street, 3 taverns, the Carlyle home (where we lucked on to a bagpipe practice), and stellar restaurant suggestion/s. We have been on quite a few tours collectively, but none came close to our DC Military Tour and Tom's amazing ability to go deeper, engage everyone, and to field any question or request from our group.
Jenn, Thank you for your kind review and for sharing Aunt Jan and Uncle Frank with me. You were all the most fun group I have had in some time. Please send them my best wishes for their continued safe travel this summer. Tom
