En una colina rocosa de difícil acceso, a orillas del río Darro, protegida por montañas y rodeada de bosques, entre los barrios más antiguos de la ciudad, la Alhambra se eleva como un imponente castillo con tonos rojizos en sus murallas que impiden al mundo exterior ver la delicada belleza que encierran. Originalmente diseñada como zona militar, la Alhambra se convirtió en residencia de la realeza y de la corte de Granada a mediados del siglo XIII, tras el establecimiento del reino nazarí y la construcción del primer palacio, por el rey fundador Mohammed ibn Yusuf ben Nasr, más conocido como Alhamar. La fortaleza se convirtió en una ciudadela con altas murallas y torres defensivas, que albergan dos zonas principales : la zona militar, o Alcazaba, el cuartel de la guardia real, y la medina o ciudad corte, la ubicación de los famosos Palacios Nazaríes y los restos de las casas de nobles y plebeyos que allí habitaban.
Los jardines del Generalife están compuestos de una serie de jardines, donde cada esquina tiene algo nuevo y agradables sorpresas para la vista, con un mínimo de edificios en el medio.
La Alcazaba tenía una función claramente militar. La entrada a la Alcazaba estaba a los pies de la Torre del Homenaje. En la base de la torre hay una ligera pendiente. Una simple pasarela en forma de L impide que la puerta principal sea vista desde el exterior.
Residencia habitual de los reyes de Granada, su construcción comenzó a principios del siglo XIV. Los Palacios Nazaríes son un complejo palaciego formado por tres edificios : El Mexuar es la sala más antigua. Se empleaba para reuniones entre los ministros del rey y como sala de audiencias. - A continuación, llegamos al Palacio de Comares, que se remonta a la época de Yusuf I. Esta vivienda fue levantada alrededor del Patio de los Arrayanes, y sus salidas laterales conducen a la Sala de los Embajadores y a la Sala de la Barca. - El Palacio de los Leones, que data de la época de Muhammed V, es también una residencia real. Está compuesto por un patio central, el Patio de los Leones, y salones a cada lado, el Salón de los Mocárabes, el Salón de los Reyes, el Salón de las Dos Hermanas, el Salón de los Ajimeces, que conduce al mirador Daraxa, y el Salón de los Abencerrajes, junto con el Harén

The staff at the meeting point were great , polite, patient and well organized.. the setup for our timed visit to the Nasrid palace was perfect. It is entirely worthy !! but … We just didn’t enjoyed the audioguide. Unable to set it loud enough to cover the ambient noise . Also It was hard to follow / match where we were with the audioguide , because a lot of room looked the same… But personally, I would not take a fully guided tour with a group, that would be too painful for me .

I’d highly recommend the palaces. Google this to get the official site (trip advisor blocks sharing links) alhambra-patronato.es The .org site that is the second hit on Google is 3-4x the actual price — which is about 22 euro in June 2026

The Alhambra is an absolutely stunning place and one of the highlights of our trip to Spain. The palaces, gardens, and incredible architecture are truly breathtaking. Everything inside the complex is well worth visiting, and we had an amazing experience once we got in. The only issue was the ticket collection process. We booked through Tripadvisor, with the tour operated by GRANAVISIÓN – Movviendo Tourism Group. The booking instructions were not clear that the tickets needed to be collected from the operator's office rather than the official Alhambra ticket office. We went to the Alhambra ticket office first and then had to find the operator's office, which was stressful and took extra time. Despite this inconvenience, the Alhambra itself is magnificent and absolutely worth visiting. Just make sure you know exactly where to collect your tickets before you go.

Site to visit absolutely, magnificent. Audioguide clearly audible in French, but the explanations were not precise enough during the movements. Beautiful experience nonetheless. Majestic Nasrid Palace.

This facility allows for a time travel experience that, no matter which part of the Alhambra is being visited, fills one with awe and wonder. Of course, I would recommend everyone to definitely include the Nasrid Palaces in their visit. One of the most beautiful and impressive examples of architecture I have ever seen.

Very LONG day full of walking and lots of stairs and uneven walkways. Amazing areas to see and so much to learn about Andalucian culture and history. Our 9 & 11 year old granddaughters enjoyed seeing it- unfortunately we visited on one of the hottest days (100’F). Take plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat, and wear good tennies or walking shoes. Areas to buys snacks, water, and souvenirs. We had been before about 16 years ago- much easier when we were younger😉.
