We had a fantastic tuk tuk tour in Bentota and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka. Our guide took us well off the tourist trail, giving us a genuine insight into local life and culture. Everywhere we went, we were warmly welcomed by the people we met. We learned so much about Sri Lankan traditions and were introduced to a huge variety of local fruits and spices along the way. The tour included visits to a coconut fibre factory, a beautiful temple, and the stunning countryside, each offering a unique glimpse into everyday life in Sri Lanka. The knowledge and passion of our guide really brought every stop to life. What made the experience even more special was that our guide was completely focused on making sure we had the best possible day. When heavy rain started shortly after we set off, he took us back to our hotel and returned another day when the weather had improved so we could fully enjoy the tour. That level of care and dedication was greatly appreciated. The perfect ending was releasing baby turtles into the sea, an unforgettable experience that we will treasure forever. If you’re looking for an authentic Sri Lankan experience rather than a typical tourist excursion, we cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Thank you for an amazing day and memories that will last a lifetime.
We had such an amazing time on this tour! Was so nice to see such unique things that we’ve never seen before. We sore a cotton fibre factory and saw how they use these to make brushes and ropes etc, we saw a cinnamon factory, lots of different fruit plants, a lovely temple and released baby turtles into the sea after sunset. The driver was super knowledgeable, one of the best things we did in Sri Lanka!
Fantastic tuktuk tour with informative guides. It was lovely to see some of the real Sri Lanka away from the tourist areas. This was a stand out tour of our stay.
Definitely a memorable experience! I strongly recommend you do this if you stay in Bentota - at the end you won't believe how much you've seen and learned in only a couple of hours! I 10000% recommend it!
Fabulous tour very personal and no hard sell experiences. We felt very privileged to see the real Bentota with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide

Fantastic evening tuk tuk tour with our guide Shiran. Having spent the last 10 days touring Sri Lanka, it was so good to get off the beaten track and do something a bit different. We saw coconut hides being made into rope, rubber resin being extracted from trees and cinnamon bark being produced..all by local villagers. Finally we got to release turtles I to the sea. Amazing. So glad we did it.
Thank you for your fantastic review! We're delighted you enjoyed this unique off-the-beaten-track experience with Shiran. Exploring local village life and releasing turtles into the sea truly makes for unforgettable memories. It’s exactly why tours like these are the must do activity in Bentota. We appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you again for more special adventures!
Shiran our guide was simply the best he took us on a 3 hour tour of Bentota and we saw life as it really is. We saw rope made from the coconut shells, the rubber tree cut for the milk, cinnamon being stripped for drying,,so many different fruits growing - bananas mango papaya jack fruit star fruit pineapples and tasted peppercorn straight from the tree. We saw the tea plantation and the rice fields. Shiran took us to a really old temple and it really was beautiful, better than others we visited. The whole tour taught us so much, no factories or shops just real life living which was exactly what we wanted to see.
Fantastic tour, we saw so much of the local life and industry. Our host Shiran and his colleague picked us up in tuktuks directly from our hotel and we spent the afternoon visiting a coconut factory, an amazing temple where we met the monk and saw vine documents dating back 600 years. Then on to see the rubber harvesting process and a cinnamon farm, passing paddy fields and water buffalo on the way. All the while Shiran kept up a running commentary of where we were, interesting local facts and history, stopping by the side of the road occasionally to pick peppercorns and fresh Aloe Vera for my sons sunburnt shoulders. Finally we went to the Turtle sanctuary and released baby turtles into the sea, absolutely amazing and a highlight of our trip. Shiran is a lovely man and gracious host, his love of his country and hospitality shines out of him. Cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Thank you so much for the experience.
Thank you for your wonderful and detailed review! We're thrilled that your tour with Shiran was such a fantastic and immersive experience—exploring local life, industry, and history, topped off with the unforgettable turtle release. Shiran’s knowledge and warm hospitality truly make this a must do activity in Bentota. We appreciate your heartfelt recommendation and hope to welcome you again for more memorable adventures!
Driver was on time, polite, informative and a great driver. We visited places we would never imagined The coconut factory was very interesting as was the old and new temples. Great work being done in the turtle hatchery/ refuge. Kathy
We were picked up on time, super flexible we could change the date and implement our desired date. We were told interesting information about the country and people, even the missing leg covering for the temple provided us Shiran(this was brought by his son). During the Tuk Tuk tour, we visited a cinnamon factory and were shown how the processing works, also the Katchuk production was shown to us. We could taste tea and fresh pepper. The temple and also important background information were conveyed to us. The subsequent visit to the turtle station was a highlight and we were able to release many baby turtles into the sea. Shiran is just wonderful and brings the love of country closer. Individual wishes are fully taken into account, he gives tips on excursions. Personal agreements and own wishes for excursion destinations are implemented. A clear Recommendation for many excursions and exciting, educational tips can be expected at Shiran. Thank you
