Great Meteoron o Megalo Meteoron es el monasterio más grande y antiguo de todos en Meteora. El monasterio ofrece unas vistas impresionantes del paisaje circundante. Durante su visita, tiene la oportunidad de visitar el museo del monasterio, donde se exhiben códices históricos e íconos religiosos de alto valor. Además, tómese un tiempo para contemplar los detalles artísticos de algunas de las mejores muestras de arte post-bizantino de Grecia, que se encuentran dentro de la iglesia principal del monasterio.
El Santo Monasterio de Varlaam es el segundo monasterio más grande de Meteora. Ubicado muy cerca del Gran Monasterio de Meteoro, fue fundado a mediados del siglo XIV por un monje llamado Varlaam. La capilla fue finalmente decorada en 1548. Los hermosos frescos de la capilla de Todos los Santos del monasterio pertenecen al célebre hagiógrafo del siglo XVI Franco Catalano. El monasterio ha conservado la torre con el antiguo sistema de poleas donde se puede ver la red, utilizada por los primeros monjes para traer gente y víveres. Los visitantes también pueden ver un gran barril de roble del siglo XVI utilizado para el almacenamiento de agua durante los siglos anteriores. El monasterio de Varlaam ha abierto recientemente un nuevo museo, donde los visitantes pueden admirar la excelencia de los íconos religiosos pintados, en su mayoría contemporáneos al período del Renacimiento, y las preciosas vestimentas sagradas de los sacerdotes del período bizantino.
El Santo Monasterio de San Esteban es uno de los monasterios más accesibles de Meteora, situado en una roca inferior y conectado por un puente de piedra. Fundada en el siglo XIV, ofrece impresionantes vistas de los acantilados circundantes y un ambiente tranquilo. En el interior, se encuentra una hermosa iglesia adornada con frescos e iconos, junto con una colección de reliquias sagradas. El entorno sereno del monasterio lo convierte en un lugar perfecto para reflexionar y capturar la increíble belleza natural de Meteora.
Disfrute de un almuerzo griego tradicional en Kastraki, cerca de la ciudad de Kalampaka, antes de regresar a Salónica.

We had a wonderful day. Our driver was great. He was very thoughtful and a joy to speak with. He was passionate and very knowledgeable adding to the experience . Our full day tour to Meteora from Thessaloniki was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Our day started with an on time pick up from the Electra Palace hotel in downtown Thessaloniki. Our driver, Antonis Pouliasis, who speaks excellent English, greeted us warmly and welcomed us into his spacious and comfortable Mercedes van. During our drive to Meteora, he informed of history and geography of the area and pointing out areas of interest along the way. He made stops for photo ops and bathroom and snack breaks along the way. Once we arrived in Meteora, he personally guided us through two of the most significant and beautiful monestaries: St. Stephen’s and the great Meteoron Monestary. He shared insights throughout each tour. After many photo ops, he dove us to a tasty lunch spot in nearby Kalabaka before we headed back to Thessaloniki using a different but scenic route from which we could view Mount Olympus from the other side. We strongly recommend Antonis as a driver and a tour guide. He made our tour comfortable, informative and memorable.

The Monasteries at Meteora are something to be experienced in person. I don’t think photographs can capture the splendor. Our driver, Antonis made the trip even more memorable. I highly recommend.

Very communicative. Easy pickup right where the cruise shuttle dropped off. Nice comfy cab ride. Meteora is incredible visually! Well worth the long commute.

Fantastic experience! The monasteries at Meteora are other worldly. It was luxurious being chauffeured in a private luxury car from our hotel in Thessaloniki right up to the entrance to the monasteries.
