Galle es una de las ciudades más pobladas de Sri Lanka. Este paraíso playero del suroeste de la isla es uno de los más conocidos de todo el país por su trascendencia histórica. Sirvió como principal puerto de la isla hasta la llegada de los portugueses en el siglo XVI. El faro de Galle está situado dentro del emblemático Fuerte de Galle. Está construido siete metros por encima de la carretera en las murallas. Esta es la estación de luz más antigua de Sri Lanka que data de 1848, pero el faro original fue destruido por un incendio en 1934. Fue reconstruido a la altura actual de 26 m. La estación de luz se encuentra dentro de los muros del antiguo fuerte de Galle, un sitio del patrimonio mundial de la UNESCO y una atracción turística muy conocida, lo que convierte a este faro en el país más visitado. El Museo Marítimo Nacional de Galle está repleto de maravillas náuticas y marinas, excavadas en el mar y exhibidas aquí. Galle siempre ha sido un puerto importante, visitado por barcos y comerciantes de todo el mundo durante varios milenios. Como tal, no escapó a las garras de los comerciantes holandeses que antepusieron las ganancias a todo lo demás.
La torre del reloj de Galle es un monumento de piedra de cuatro pisos de altura que data de finales del siglo XIX. Fue construido dentro de las murallas del fuerte de Galle en el sitio de la sala de guardia anterior, con vistas a uno de los tres bastiones del fuerte. Si bien la antigua torre del reloj es un gran monumento para fotografiar, requerirá algunas maniobras hábiles debido al ángulo extremo cercano. Por lo tanto, podría ser mejor fotografiarlo desde el Bastión de la Luna al que se enfrenta la torre (combina con el fuerte de Galle) Fin del recorrido, regresará al alojamiento lleno de buenos recuerdos.
Originalmente construido en 1640, el edificio actual data de 1752. Su piso está pavimentado con lápidas de cementerios holandeses, mientras que otras características impresionantes incluyen el órgano y un púlpito imponente hecho de madera de calamandro y coronado por un gran dosel hexagonal. Una vez que fue un hipódromo para apostar a los colonos británicos, el campo de cricket de Galle se estableció hace más de 100 años. Desde 1998 se utiliza para partidos internacionales; en 2010 fue el sitio de la legendaria última aparición del gran jugador de bolos de Sri Lanka, Muttiah Muralitharan. Hay una gran perspectiva del terreno desde el Bastión del Sol hacia el sur.

So much too see, so many stops. Turtla Rescue center, beach views, mangrove forest boat tour. Obligitory sales stops at Cinnamon Island and Gem Stone mine. Galle Fort with the famous jumpers (Nest thing on the tour) and thrn the stilt fishermen. I eluld reverse the order though as the stilt fishermen is late in the day.

This was a great trip with a brilliant driver and our guide Naveen for whom nothing was too much trouble - we had a full tour of the Dutch fort which was intriguing after a brilliant cruise on the river seeing lots of wildlife and having a foot bath with the fishes - the turtle hatchery was really informative and great fun

1) extremely rough driving 2) not spors were not clean like bentota beach. there were other beaches which were cleaner 3) quality of vehicle not great for charges

We had a great tour with Krish, who was a great guide and fun to talk to during the long rides. We saw the sea turtles, toured the river, and had about an hour in Galle. Made it back to Colombo around 7 after starting around 8:45.

I had an amazing experience - it was a private tour and I need to thank to the company for very fast and accurate communication. The driver took me to all the places included in the program - we spent almost 12 hours on the road visiting different places and it was amazing. I do recommend to have a water safari at Madu river. Kosgoda sea turtles conservation project is the other thing you should know.

One needs to carefully read the itinerary. it is full of additional optional offers that are not cheap. it adds up and the total trip cost is not too high. driving in a busy towns does not add to the experience. in fact driving in general is crazy FOR the PASSANGER. the only highlight for me was the Modu Safari. The Galle fort has no uniqueness other than its history. I would pick the stops in the itinerary that i want to go. Tell the driver to get there through the highway. the operator & driver executed flawlessly but the trip content does not worth it for me.
