The boat ride was lovely and we enjoyed the ride through the villages. It was a rainy day so we were limited to hiking. We were supposed to go to the saltmine tour but the driver didn't know anything about it. He was very sweet and went out of his way to find a particular shop for us as we had a lot of time left partly due to the weather and partly from missing some of the excursion
Our driver guide was very polite and friendly. He shared interesting information as we drove about Germany and the places we visited; Hallstatt and Salzburg. The part I was disappointed about was that at each city it felt a bit like we had a bit of information given to us and then were completely on our own. For Hallstatt this wasn’t too big of a deal; the town is small and there aren’t a lot of specific historically significant locations or monuments to learn about. It’s mostly a beautiful town. For Salzburg this was a bit more disappointing. I expected to be shown more specific locations relevant to Mozart and The Sound of Music, but we were dropped at Mozart Plaza with some loose information and the rest was up to us. Again, the stroll through Salzburg was pretty, but not guided at all. I think the tour description could be more explicit if this is the expectation. So overall a very pleasant day but it fell short of what we had expected. Unfortunately also since it was a Saturday with lovely weather, it was very busy which meant we could not visit the sky walk in Hallstatt or the castle in Salzburg within our time. This is obviously hard for the tour provider to predict, but I suspect it would be good if they more strongly steer their customers away from trying to do too much in a day so that more time can be available to account for things being busy.
Dear Lachlan, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re glad to hear that you found our driver-guide polite, friendly, and informative, and that you enjoyed the scenic beauty of both Hallstatt and Salzburg. We’re sorry to hear that the level of guidance didn’t fully meet your expectations. Your feedback is important to us, and we’d like to offer some clarification. The experiences in Hallstatt and Salzburg are indeed quite different by nature. Hallstatt is more focused on breathtaking natural landscapes and iconic photo spots—perfect for leisurely exploration—while Salzburg offers a deeper dive into culture and history, especially sites related to The Sound of Music and Mozart. We appreciate that this contrast might make the two visits feel quite different, and it’s completely understandable. We’d also like to explain that the round-trip journey to Hallstatt requires about two hours more driving time than to Salzburg, which we note in the tour details. This naturally affects the amount of time available for on-site exploration, especially on a one-day trip covering both destinations. To accommodate different interests, our tours are flexible and semi-guided rather than fully structured—some guests prefer more freedom to explore at their own pace, while others prefer detailed commentary. Our guide adapts the day based on guests’ preferences, but we acknowledge this could have been made clearer beforehand. As you mentioned, visiting on a sunny Saturday brought large crowds, which unfortunately meant it wasn’t possible to visit the Skywalk in Hallstatt. These are indeed common challenges during peak travel times. Since we operate private tours, we try to avoid rushing or pressuring our guests just to complete a checklist—we believe a relaxed pace often makes for a more enjoyable day. Still, your suggestion to help guests plan more realistically is well taken and something we will keep in mind for future improvements. Thank you again for your thoughtful and constructive feedback. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back and provide an even more tailored experience next time. Warm regards, Sherry
