Volubilis es el vestigio de una ciudad romana construida sobre el antiguo emplazamiento de una ciudad púnico-bereber, que fue capital del reino de Mauritania, situada en la llanura de Saïss, en el norte de Marruecos, al borde del wadi Rhoumane, un río en los suburbios de Meknes. Es uno de los sitios del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO.
Moulay Driss Zerhoun Es famoso por ser el sitio de la tumba de Idris I, el primer gran gobernante islámico de Marruecos, que da nombre a la ciudad.
Meknes es una ciudad en el norte de Marruecos. Es conocida por su pasado imperial, con vestigios como Bab Mansour, una enorme puerta con arcos y mosaicos. La puerta conduce a la antigua ciudad imperial. El mausoleo del sultán Moulay Ismail, que hizo de la ciudad su capital en el siglo XVII, tiene patios y fuentes. Despite some periodic heavy rain, this was a great trip. Badr was an excellent driver who made sure that I understood the ins and outs of visiting the Volubilis ruins, the village of Moulay Idriss, and the city of Meknes. Badr was well-versed in English, and an engaging conversationalist. The highlights of the trip for me were the vast and picturesque ruins of Volubilis, and the gorgeous mausoleum of Moulay Isma’il in Meknes. A thoroughly interesting and enjoyable excursion.
