El golfo de Corinto, en el mar Jónico, está conectado por el canal de Corinto. Divide el Peloponeso del continente griego al atravesar el pequeño istmo de Corinto, convirtiendo así la península en una isla. Sin esclusas, el canal se excavó a través del istmo a nivel del mar. Muchos barcos modernos no pueden cruzarlo, ya que tiene apenas 21,4 metros (70 pies) de ancho en su base y 6,4 kilómetros (4 km) de largo. Las vistas del istmo de Corinto se ven mejor desde lo alto, donde también se pueden contemplar las escarpadas murallas de piedra caliza de la ciudad y observar los barcos que navegan por el canal.
Olimpia era un lugar sagrado que atraía a fieles de todo el mundo antiguo. A partir del siglo VIII a. C., las celebraciones religiosas en Olimpia se asociaron con la Tregua Olímpica Sagrada, celebrada en todo el mundo griego tras un acuerdo entre el espartano Licurgo y el rey de Elis, Ifito. En el siglo V a. C., Olimpia se convirtió en un lugar de difusión de ideas, con decenas de pensadores y personas influyentes que acudían aquí para intercambiar y transmitir sus conocimientos e ideas.
El Museo Arqueológico de Olimpia es uno de los principales museos de Grecia, situado en Olimpia. Está supervisado por el Ministerio de Cultura y Deportes y, desde 2009, está dirigido por Georgia Chatzi. Cuando se terminó e inauguró el edificio original en 1882, fue el primer museo de Grecia fuera de Atenas. El museo alberga descubrimientos de la zona circundante, incluido el sitio de los Juegos Olímpicos de la Antigüedad. La colección incluye objetos producidos y utilizados en la zona desde la prehistoria hasta la época de la dominación romana. De especial interés para los griegos de todos los tiempos es el Pelopión, la tumba del rey casi mítico, antepasado de los Atridas, los dos reyes que lideraron sus dominios en la guerra contra Troya. El Peloponeso recibe su nombre de Pélope. La tumba sugiere que puede que no fuera completamente mítico.

Yiannis was an amazing guide/driver, we had a great time and the drive to Olympia so really didn't feel long. Both, Corinth Channel and Olympia are worth seeing. The time I had there also was enough to get a good impression of each of these places without the feeling of being in a hurry. After all I definitely can recommend the trip.

The Corinth Canal is a very brief stop but it is worth seeing how deep of a canal was built. Pretty impressive. Ancient Olympia has a very nice museum and ruins of the Olympic village. There was less in the Olympic Village than we expected but it was worth going to as you can still see the outlines of the buildings and the race track.
