En este tour en grupo pequeño, saboreará su camino a través de la ciudad con 5 auténticas paradas de comida Sofía fuera de los caminos trillados : desde banitsa en copos y queso a la parrilla en una baldosa, hasta pimientos rellenos a la antigua, cordero cocido a fuego lento, y un postre sorpresa. Cada parada revela un pedazo de vida local, historia y sabor, todo guiado por un apasionado anfitrión local. Pruebe auténticas especialidades búlgaras en múltiples paradas mientras viaja en el histórico tranvía público de Sofía con una tarjeta de la ciudad para el día. Construida en estilo neobizantino, es una de las catedrales ortodoxas orientales más grandes del mundo, además de uno de los símbolos y principales atracciones turísticas de Sofía.
El diseño de este edificio, de estilo neoclásico, es obra del arquitecto vienés Friedrich Schwanberg y fue realizado en el periodo comprendido entre 1881 y 1883.
La Biblioteca Nacional “San Cirilo y San Metodio” es el mayor fondo de libros de Bulgaria, con 8,5 millones de documentos. En su interior se pueden ver exposiciones temporales. La colección de libros antiguos, raros y valiosos incluye un total de unos 17.000 volúmenes de libros y publicaciones periódicas publicados entre los siglos XV y XXI. Los materiales están organizados en colecciones separadas.
El edificio donde se encuentra la sede de la Asamblea Nacional tiene importancia histórica y es un monumento cultural. Fue construido entre 1884 y 1886 según el diseño del arquitecto Constantin Yovanovic.
Cerca del Puente de las Águilas se encuentran la Universidad de Sofía "San Clemente de Ohrid" y la Biblioteca Nacional "San Cirilo y San Metodio". La universidad fue fundada el 1 de octubre de 1888. De lunes a viernes, los visitantes podían ver también el espectacular salón central con sus grandes vitrales.
Fundado hace más de 140 años, se ha convertido en uno de los centros comerciales más importantes de la ciudad. Casi 60.000 personas visitan el mercado Zhenski Pazar cada día. El mercado está situado en la llamada Zona de Tolerancia de Sofía. El nombre se debe a la proximidad de los templos de todas las comunidades religiosas oficiales de Bulgaria. Aquí se encuentran la iglesia de los Santos Cirilo y Metodio, la mezquita Banya Bashi y la Sinagoga Central de Sofía.
La primera muralla de Serdica fue construida en la segunda mitad del siglo II d. C. y tenía una anchura de 2,20 m. A finales del siglo III y principios del IV d. C. se llevó a cabo una remodelación de la muralla y se cavó un foso frente a ella, a 14 m al oeste de la puerta occidental, de unos 2 m de profundidad y 5 m de ancho, que funcionó en el siglo IV.
El antiguo complejo cultural y de comunicaciones “Serdica” reúne áreas con diferentes usos, divididas en dos zonas. La zona “Largo”, situada debajo de la plaza Nezavisimost, integra los restos arqueológicos desenterrados en un recinto para eventos culturales. Aquí se pueden ver los restos de una de las dos calles principales de la ciudad romana, el decumanus maximus, que conecta la puerta oriental con la occidental de la ciudad. Al sur de este se puede ver un gran edificio residencial que ocupa toda una ínsula (manzana urbana). El edificio también tenía pequeñas tiendas, en las que los viajeros y los habitantes de la ciudad podían comprar alimentos y diversos productos.
El edificio de la Sinagoga Central de Sofía se considera, con razón, el orgullo de la comunidad judía búlgara. Es una de las tres sinagogas sefardíes (de origen hispanojudío) más grandes de Europa y la mayor de la península balcánica.
Los visitantes podrán ver las fuentes termales naturales de la ciudad, a 46 grados centígrados. El edificio actual de los Baños Minerales Centrales fue diseñado en estilo de la Secesión vienesa, pero integrando elementos ornamentales típicamente búlgaros, bizantinos y ortodoxos orientales, por los arquitectos Petko Momchilov y Friedrich Grünanger en 1904-1905 y aprobado el 30 de enero de 1906, como proyectos de un austriaco (en 1889)
Se construyó por iniciativa y con el apoyo financiero del Mullah Effendi Kada Seyfullah y también se la conoce como Mezquita del Mollah Effendi. Fue diseñada por el famoso arquitecto otomano Mimar Sinan, quien también construyó la mezquita del Sultán Selim en Edirne y la Mezquita de Süleymaniye en Estambul. Debido al número 974 sobre el arco de entrada, se considera que la mezquita fue construida en el año 974, el calendario islámico (Hégira) o en 1566-1567 d. C.

The talk was really interesting and I learned a lot about Bulgarian wine, its history and current status. The wines we tasted were all delicious and so very different form each other - very lovely.The two types of cheese were very tasty and added to the experienced of tasting the wines. The only criticism was that there was no artisan bread as advertised. I think some bread would have helped cut through the rich cheeses and wines.
My family (3) had a wonderful time touring with Peter! What I love about this tour is the fact that we went to restaurants that I would not have ever gone too (as I speak English and really struggle to understand Bulgarian even with a translation app). But going with a local to try authentic Bulgarian places with traditional dishes and regional drinks was perfect! Breaking bread with our small group brought Bulgarian, American, Scot, and New Zealand personalities and perspectives together to unpack the amazing history of the city Sophia and Bulgarian life. Food was delicious (come with an empty stomach!), time was right, we hopped on and off public transportation to enjoy the old neighborhoods…all in all I recommend making time for this one!

It was an excellent evening walking tour. Peter is an excellent guide, with deep knowledge and flair for sharing it. Peter planned well for the tram and metro ride with pre booked tickets which made it hassle free. He was patient with all queries especially from my inquisitive children. He took us to the National Library where he showed us the mystery 2060 book to be revealed in that year as a message to future generation. He made us explore the old and new parts of Sofia with elaborate explanations of architecture, culture and historic timeline. He also took us to Sofia info centre where we got a quick demo of Bulgarian Language, and Ms Monica was gracious to give us the pin badge of Bulgarian alphabets. Peter met us at the Nevsky Cathedral for this small group tour. He provided transit passes for us, and we began to take the tram through the city, stopping to try local dishes at a few locations. The foods ranged from cheeses, to breakfast foods, to more hearty plates. Along the way we also had Bulgarian beer, wine, and rakia. Each time, Peter explained the cultural context of the food or drink along with some history about Sofia. This was a great experience.
