Este tour te llevará a través del Parque Regional de la Antigua Vía Apia, una de las áreas urbanas protegidas más grandes de Europa. Te sumergirás en la historia de la Antigua Vía Apia, una carretera romana del siglo IV a. C., de más de 500 km de longitud que conectaba Roma con Brindisi, al sur de Italia. No solo un camino militar sino un camino que esconde muchos secretos, hermosas villas y sitios históricos. Pasarás por el Circo de Majencio, el Mausoleo de Cecilia Metella, por nombrar algunos. Las Catacumbas de San Calixto forman parte del llamado complejo Calisciano, un área de unas 30 hectáreas entre la Vía Appia Antica, la Vía Ardeatina y la Vía delle Sette Chiese, en Roma, que alberga diversas áreas funerarias y catacumbas Almuerzo/Aperitivo Un merecido descanso junto a la Vía Apia le espera para disfrutar de un sabroso almuerzo por la mañana o aperitivo por la tarde.

Una imponente puerta de entrada sur a la ciudad de Roma. La Porta di San Sebastiano, parte de las Murallas Aurelianas construidas alrededor del 275 d.C., también marca el comienzo de la histórica Vía Appia Antica. Déjate encantar por su belleza y descubre los numerosos grafitis medievales que dan testimonio del flujo de peregrinos a lo largo de los siglos.
Visita al complejo funerario oficial de la Iglesia de Roma. El cementerio subterráneo más grande de la ciudad con corredores que alcanzan una longitud de unos 20km. Las catacumbas de San Calixto, un lugar sagrado que data del siglo II a. C., toman su nombre del diácono Calixto I. Más de 50 mártires y 16 papas y medio millón de cristianos fueron enterrados aquí.
El Parque Caffarella, hoy parte integrante del Parque Regional Appia Antica, es una de las zonas verdes más grandes no solo de Roma sino también de Europa. Es un tesoro rico en historia escondido entre sus senderos y arboledas donde se pueden ver los restos de edificios antiguos.
Déjate encantar por este lugar sagrado que cuenta la historia de amor entre la Ninfa Egeria y el segundo Rey de Roma Numa Pompilio, donde Egeria, al enterarse de la muerte de su amada, rompió a llorar de pena, dando vida a un manantial.
Este majestuoso mausoleo es una tumba pagana dedicada a Cecilia Metella, que data del siglo I a. C. Incorporado al Castrum Caetani, sigue siendo el mausoleo mejor conservado de la Vía Appia Antica. Aquí también se pueden apreciar los restos de la casa medieval de la rica familia Caetani y la iglesia de San Nicola de la que solo quedan en pie los muros perimetrales
A la sombra de la legendaria Vía Apia, se planea una parada para almorzar. Podrá degustar especialidades Italianas en el restaurante. Nota: solo en el tour de 5 horas Por la tarde habrá un sabroso aperitivo en lugar del almuerzo
Reanudamos el recorrido en bicicleta eléctrica por esta inmensa zona verde atravesada en la antigüedad y aún visible hoy en día, desde la Vía Latina, la carretera más antigua de Roma. Encrucijada de la red de agua de la Antigua Roma, aquí es posible admirar la grandeza de la ingeniería romana a través de los restos de algunos acueductos en algunos lugares bien conservados, y sorprendentemente algunos todavía en funcionamiento.
En la quinta milla de la Vía Apia se pueden admirar los restos de la majestuosa Villa dei Quintili perteneciente a los hermanos Sesto Quintilio Condiano y Massimo Valerio, cónsules en el siglo II d.C., asesinados por Cómodo I que confiscó la villa convirtiéndola en propiedad imperial.
Construidas por el emperador del mismo nombre, las Termas de Caracalla fueron durante aproximadamente un siglo los baños públicos más grandes jamás construidos, y hoy en día se conserva la mayor parte de su estructura. Una rama del Aqua Marcia traía agua a los baños a través del acueducto antoniniano. Pequeños restos se pueden admirar en la Porta di San Sebastiano.
Situado en la Via Appia Antica, el Circo de Majencio representa el mejor ejemplo de un circo romano que ha sobrevivido hasta nuestros días. Déjate transportar al pasado rodeado de los restos de la antigua Roma. La espina dorsal, aún visible, albergaba el obelisco de Agonale, trasladado durante el Renacimiento a la Fuente de los Cuatro Ríos en la Piazza Navona.

Wonderful experience getting out of the city into the countryside and open air. Enjoyed learning about some of the area history along the way and touring the catacombs. A memorable experience.
We did the 5hr Deluxe Appian Way Bike Tour with Catacombs Visit & Lunch with Trevor as our tour guide. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time riding along the Appian Way at a leisurely pace on well equiped e-bikes. Trevor was a very knowledgeable and engaging travel guide who took time to explain the various points of interest and answered all questions asked. We are so glad we took the time to do the Appian Way - it showcased another side of Rome that you just won’t see walking the inner city streets. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to see Rome beyond the city centric attractions - many thanks to Trevor and Roma Starbike for a truly amazing experience.

Me and my family went together, along with five others in our group. Our guide, Sale, was amazing! Very informative, and answered lots and lots of questions. , July 5th, my partner Mark and I had the deluxe five hour bike ride with Catacombs. Nazeer was our guide and he was wonderful. He helped me when I got stuck, was patient about it and was very interesting to listen to as well. He was very intelligent and knowledgeable about Rome history. He was truly a pleasure to bike with. Ride was fascinating, visit to Catacombs as well.
First and foremost our guide Alex was philosophical, phenomenal, caring, compassionate and great at what he does. This tour is not for those thinking it’s a leisurely tour to see some spectacular sites. You will earn your sites through hard…read this again….hard pedaling with slight assist from the E-bike. Your terrain will be bumpy, dirty, rocky and if you’re doing this in the summer bring lots of sunscreen and water! I highly recommend this tour if you want to see outside the city and see some incredible history.

This e-bike tour was one of my favorite things I did the whole time I was in Rome. To be able to ride the trail of the Appian way and experience the countryside gave you the chance to see Rome in a different way. We got a tour of the catacombs, ability to see the aquaducts, understand the history of this trail and ride through woods to see some historical ponds. We also stopped for lunch which was delicious. My husband and I were in a group of 10 on a tour with Ricardo where he often would explain things about the trail and its history to the group. However, he made sure to take time individually with each person which made the tour even more special. He also took away the stress of trying to navigate the Appian Way. Highly recommend this group and specifically Ricardo!
This was a fantastic tour of Rome outside of Rome. We toured the Appian way and saw so much history. Our tour guide Mara was awesome! The only down side to this was the condition of the bikes. One of the riders had an issue with the seat, two had issues with gears skipping under load, one had a e bike dead battery shortly after leaving and the guide swapped bikes with her, another had a pedal come loose about halfway through. As I said, the guide and the tour were excellent but the bike shop needs to perform some maintenance on these bikes.
Fantastic 25 km bike tour! The 5 hours flew by, and it was engaging and informative for both adults and our 11- and 15-year-old kids. We loved escaping the hustle and bustle of Rome within minutes and learning about its ancient history along the way. Chris B was a knowledgeable, kind, and funny guide who made the experience even better. We'd happily come back and do another tour!
