Well organised tour, embracing Tiwi culture and customs. Morning tea and scones were well received after the ferry trip across from Cullen Bay. After a walk to the local sights. Lunch before selecting our prints to print onto Tshirts. Memorable day out.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this review, we're really glad to hear you had a memorable day on the Tiwi tour and enjoyed the culture, morning tea and printing your own shirt. Our team work closely with local Tiwi partners to make sure the day runs smoothly and that visitors get a genuine insight into Tiwi life, so it’s great to know that came through in your experience. Love your photos!
We had a wonderful hot and sweaty day. The 2.5 hour ferry trip was long but worth it for the great day we had on the island. The people are all so lovely and welcoming. The activities and food were fantastic. I totally enjoyed my exhausting day. Just an fyi: don’t bother washing your hair before you go like I did because you will have to walk thru the smoking welcome ceremony! 😉
Thank you so much, Wendy! What a wonderful review, and that hair tip is good advice! And are absolutely right, the smoking ceremony is one of the most meaningful parts of the day and a genuinely immersive welcome from the Tiwi people. We are so pleased the day delivered despite the heat. The Tiwi Islands have a way of doing that, a little exhausting, a lot unforgettable. The warmth of the community, the art and the culture really are something you cannot find anywhere else in Australia. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We hope to welcome you back on board again soon.
After 2.5 hours of sailing, we arrived at Tiwi Islands. Along the way we even spotted a turtle. We were well received and participated in a smoking ceremony. Then there were scones and tea. We started with a short walk past the school, museum, workshop and church. Lunch was much better than expected. The highlight of the day was yet to come with making your own print. Everyone was very friendly, but Vivian was our favorite. Overall a super cool day and experience!
Hoi, Thanks so much for sharing your experience of the Tiwi Islands with us. It’s wonderful to hear that the ferry trip, spotting a turtle, and your welcome and smoking ceremony all set the tone for a special day. We’re very pleased you enjoyed the walk around the community, including the school, museum, workshop and church, and that lunch was better than you expected. It’s especially good to know that creating your own print was the highlight, and that the friendliness of everyone you met, particularly Vivian, really stood out. Dank je wel for calling it a “supertoffe dag” and a great experience. We really appreciate your feedback and hope we can welcome you back to the Tiwi Islands again in the future. Tot ziens!
An excellent day. We designed T-shirts, visited museum and met Indigenous residents. Lunch was delicious and the whole day very well organised. Only disappointment was the gift shop at the museum where there was little to buy. Highly r ecommended!
Dear Ilona, Thank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed the well-organized day, the creative activities, the museum visit, and a delicious lunch. We appreciate your note about the gift shop selection. Our aim is for every part of the experience to feel memorable and seamless; we will pass this on to the gallery. Best regards,
Thoroughly enjoyed my day. Loved the ferry journey there and back. The crew there are all interesting, helpful and friendly. Lunch was delicious and the history thought provoking. If I return to Darwin would happily do the tour again.
I felt very supported and everything was looked after. The people were so caring and genuinely friendly.
The ferry a little long but in my opinion this was a minor inconveniences as the day was memorable and worth it. I loved the screen printing and learning about the Tiwi culture. There is so much to learn and see. The lunch was also great. The only thing I would change would be to do the screen printing first then let it dry while looking around the lovely museum.
Thank you for sharing your thoughtful feedback. We are delighted to hear that you had a memorable day, enjoyed the cultural experiences, and appreciated the lunch. We also value your suggestion about the activity order and understand how that could enhance the flow of the visit. Insights like yours help highlight what makes an experience engaging and meaningful.
Such a fun, interactive, thought provoking quality experience. Also really yum, top quality food provided! Can’t recommend enough for people wanting to add something a bit special to their visit to the top end.
So pleased that you had the opportunity to experience and enjoy this very special piece of Indigenous Australia. Thank you for your kind words, I will be sure to pass them on to the people who helped make your day.
We had a fantastic day on Bathurst island learning about Tiwi culture. After a 2 1/2 hr ride on a SeaLink ferry we were met by Vivian (?) our guide who brought us all as one group to watch a ceremony that started with a smoking ceremony and dance, that was fabulous. One elder- Romy ( not sure of correct spelling) was very entertaining and funny. We had really lovely damper and tea for morning tea. The group then spilt into two with our group going for a walk through the streets with our guide to see the museum and the heritage- listed Catholic Church. Our guide Vivian told us about Tiwi culture and history, it was very educational and interesting. We then returned to the cultural centre to have a really lovely lunch ( quite big and couldn’t be finished). Our group then did some screen printing with Victoria and Alan who had been doing it for 40 + years. This was a fun experience enjoyed by all. The art centre had a lot of local art & sculptures for sale. I count resist a lovely painting to take home. We had a lot of time to rest whilst waiting for the group to finish the screen printing so we were able to watch and chat to the local artists who were painting in the garden. I would highly recommend this culturally immersive day of Tiwi.
Exceptional day. Very friendly and welcoming place to visit. Screen printing with my teenage daughter was a highlight and our tour guide was full of interesting facts and stories about Tiwi culture. The ferry trip there and back is about 2.5 hrs each way, but well worth the effort. Would do it again on a heartbeat.
We really appreciate you sharing this review. It’s great to hear you and your daughter enjoyed the screen-printing and that our guide’s stories added to the experience of Tiwi culture. The ferry trip is a bit of a journey, but feedback like yours reminds us how worthwhile it is once you arrive. We’d be delighted to welcome you back for another visit anytime.
