We had a wonderful day learning about the history and culture of Kenya. Each of the three musuems was unique and added to our knowledge. The dancing demonstration was fun. Benson Kungu shared his depth of knowledge in an easy manner. It was a great day.
We highly recommend Benson as a tour guide! We're so glad we found him, thanks to some great reviews on TripAdvisor. We were in Nairobi for a short time and wanted to visit a few museums, and were fortunate to have Benson as our guide. He's a great professional - very knowledgeable, kind, flexible, and offers awesome insights. While in the museums, we had their employees guiding us, and were impressed by the one at the National History Museum who was super knowledgeable and we learned a lot . When booking tours, it's not easy to sort through so many offerings, but if you choose Benson, you'll surely be in great hands. We love to support small business owners, and Benson is an independent guide with his own company. He offers other tours too, and we hope he gets more customers to book with him.
Benson himself was great - thoroughly professional, friendly, very knowledgeable about Nairobi and willing to share his knowledge, answer questions and generally be very helpful not to mention being adept at navigating Nairobi's streets and traffic, all the while. This was our first day in Nairobi so Benson gave us an excellent first day orientation. Our views of the 4 experiences are mixed although we certainly enjoyed our day. The National Museum has excellent exhibits and is much more extensive than we actually saw - our experience was marred by the fact that the museum guide assigned to us was frankly pretty awful. He just wasn't interested or knowledgeable about the exhibits, nor in ensuring that we spent time in areas that were of interest to us. His primary aim was to get us through as little as possible of the museum as fast as possible. Benson was surprised that we'd come back lo the car so soon. We passed along our view of the guide to Benson and we are sure he will endeavour to avoid having this guide reassigned to any of his clients. The railway museum was a complete contrast it was far more interesting than we'd expected. The guide thoroughly knew his subject and was enthusiastic to tell us all about the various exhibits and the history of the train in Kenya without going further than we wanted. We have no doubt that he made what conceivably could be a tedious history lesson of the train in Kenya actually a joy to hear about. The Karen Blixon museum was interesting and in a lovely setting - however, we suspect that we knew more about Karen Blixon and her time and activities in Kenya, not to mention the movie 'Out of Africa' than he expected of most tourists. We had a lovely lunch out doors in a nice garden frequented by a variety of birds. The Bomas troup did their best in their substitute venue - they have had to vacate their previous bigger and better location. The was absolutely nothing wrong with the dancers/performers or performance - it was great, they were enthusiastic and most entertaining, despite their small audience (since we were very late and their original performance was long finished. The venue though did not allow them to display themselves or the dances to the best of their ability which was a shame so we hope they can return to their original venue post-refurbishment as soon as possible.
Very interesting, well paced with Benson, excellent guide. A full day, definitely worth doing. We had a private guided tour included at the National Museum, lots to see there so I would skip the stuffed animals and things you aren't wanting to see and move on to the many sections
Thank you very much Pam for a remarkable review. Your insight goes a long way at promoting this tour. Very much appreciated.
Wonderful day tour. Excellent and friendly tour guide. Jungleman knows Nairobi! He made the day fun and informative and even took me to a place for a typical Kenyan meal. Delicious! We visited the Nairobi National Museum, the Railroad Museum and the Karen Blixen Museum and finished the day at the Bomas of Kenya, which is basically tribal ceremonial dances. Kenya has/had over 40 tribes of peoples. I learned a lot and enjoyed Jungleman's company and conversation. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Nairobi for the first time.
The tour was wonderful. Benson, our guide, was very professional, knowledgeable and very friendly. He provided us with lots of great information about his country, Nairobi Kenya. We visited many interesting museums and culture events. A very enjoyable day with Benson. Thank you Benson for making our Nairobi trip/stay an enjoyable one. A must tour to go during your Nairobi vacation.

Benson made the trip between the museums very interesting as he shared his knowledge of Kenya history and pointing out features of Nairobi. The Railroad Museum was particularly interesting as the development of the RR in Kenya is also the story of the modernization of the Kenyan state.
Benson, as tour leader-driver, was the perfect person to navigate me through the varied activities of a busy day—with his knowledge, friendliness, and patience. There were four events to attend and lots of traffic to drive through. His comments were informative and interesting. If I had the choice available, I would have liked to have him lead me through the museums himself. The museums' assigned guides were well informed; but I would have preferred Benson for continuity.
I was especially interested in the Karen Blixen Museum; and it turned out to be a special, enjoyable experience. The guide was well informed and helpful. The Railway Museum was fascinating and well worth the time, both indoors and outdoors. The guide was well informed and helpful. The National Museum is well done and informative. The guides were well informed and helpful. Looking back, I wish that I had taken more time to look at some of the exhibits on my own, too. The Bomas of Kenya program is magnificent.
