Must visit Montenegro

Montenegro is an absolutely amazing country and one of the highlights of our trip. The breathtaking mountains, crystal-clear Adriatic coastline, charming old towns, and scenic drives make it a destination that's well worth visiting. If you're staying in Dubrovnik, Croatia, Montenegro is only about a 1.5-hour drive away, making it the perfect day trip. Crossing the border was straightforward, and the stunning scenery along the way was an attraction in itself. If you're visiting Croatia, don't miss the opportunity to spend at least a day in Montenegro. It's a beautiful country with its own unique charm, and you'll be glad you made the trip.

Perfect Montenegro day tour

Our experience was fantastic. Very organized. Our guide was very knowledgeable spoke throughout the entire trip making the day very upbeat. Made sure we didn’t have to wait in long lines. If I were to give a number from 1 to 10 I would give him a 11+.

I recommend visiting...

I recommend visiting Montenegro but maybe with a different guide and perhaps even driving yourself. Majority of the time was spend at border checking. Getting in to Montenegro and waiting for bus to make to checkpoint and individually going through border checking took over 2.5 hrs in the morning and close to 5hrs in the evening to get back and barely 5 hrs spend in total rushed to see Montenegro. Our guide Drajon or however you spell it, SUCKED. He provided biased opinions and he kept talking about only his political views of the country and nearby countries. There was no history or run down regarding the church we visited or Montenegro palaces, history etc. We noticed this because there were other guides who we overheard from other buses and at the church and attractions who provided so much more valuable info. Drajon is very politically opinionated, biased, dry and mono toned! If we had a better guide maybe our experience wouldve been better. Montenegro itself is beautiful.. if you have been to lake como it’s similar to that! My partner enjoyed it a lot and I thought it was another lake como.I think driving yourself or smaller group would be easier to avoid the traffic with bus jams!

Yesterday, the driver was...

Yesterday, the driver was good, and the guide was mediocre. The guide also suggested a restaurant (optional) which was not that great - the food wasn’t great and the service was bad. The food took a long time for to arrive and we wasted a lot of time there instead of seeing the rest of the city. The guide did say it was optional, so my suggestion would be to not go to the restaurant.

Great Day Trip to Perast and Kotor – A Few Things to Know

If the trip included both Perast and Kotor, I’d give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5 stars). Perast is actually in Montenegro, so I would amend the wording to make that clear. Suitable title: Great Day Trip to Perast and Kotor – A Few Things to Know The first stop was Perast, where we had approximately 90 minutes. We opted for the boat trip to Our Lady of the Rocks, which included the boat ride, access to the island and entrance to the church. This cost €15 per person and was well worth it. The second stop was Kotor, where we had around three hours. Our guide recommended a fish restaurant, Konoba Akustik, which was an excellent choice. Please also be aware that there is a €3 tourist tax per person when entering Montenegro. Both Boris and the driver were very good and contributed to making the day enjoyable. The only thing to be aware of is the border crossing process. Depending on the route taken to avoid the heaviest traffic, you may need to leave the vehicle and queue for passport checks and scanning. Our route involved crossing the Bosnia and Herzegovina border, and we were scanned three times during the journey, so be prepared for potential delays.

Great trip

Boris was an interesting tour guide and Franko safe driver. Very early start but worth it for the scenic views in both Perast and Kotor. We did not take boat tour in Perast but explored instead. In Kotor we headed for old town instead of recomened restaurant. Border crossing went smoothly, just standard stamping of passport and EU new checks. Tbh we have had worse experiences with that. Bring water and maybe food.

Highs and Lows

Do NOT add the Budva option! Perast was absolutely beautiful (but felt rushed), Kotor was a great place to eat and enjoy the shops, but Budva was not nice at all. Also extended the dayy, and made the journey back too long.

Beautiful country, relaxing tour. Would recommend

Nikolas was our tour guide and absolutely made our trip with his endless positivity, enthusiasm and charisma. He was extremely informative and explained the day in great detail so nobody was left confused. Montenegro was a beautiful country with lots of history, Nikolas gave us his first hand experience of the history and conflict of this country. We would book again in a heartbeat! Worth knowing: Make sure you take plenty of cash! They advise to have a little but would recommend all of your money being cash as not many local places accepted card and cash machines charge a fee. The boarder to Montenegro can take hours so punctuality is absolutely vital- make sure you’re back to the bus in plenty of time or boarder crossing can take hours (without being able to leave the bus either!) Extra charges: €3 city tax, €15pp boat to Lady of the Rocks, restaurant is optional but we received a free welcome alcoholic shot then dessert was only free if you purchase a meal
