Our day was wonderful from beginning to end. Our Tour guide Carlos Daniel was by far the perfect fit for everyone on the tour we couldn’t have asked for a better person. He definitely made the tour a complete joy from beginning to end. Thank You Daniel 😊
Carlos Daniel was the tour guide for my trip today. He was very knowledgeable! He knew a lot of facts to share with the group. Carlos Daniel was very polite and told some good stories/jokes! I highly recommend taking this tours, especially with Carlos Daniel!
Luis Neves was a most entertaining and educational guide. Our group was small and Luis kept us all engaged. He was so knowledgeable and knew the history of the area and facts about the wines. We loved the boat trip down the river and the views were breathtaking. The 2 vineyards were both spectacular and so informative. Much more to port than it being a desert wine. You will not be disappointed booking with Luis at Living Tours Porto! Highly recommend this tour - you will leave the area changed, the Douro Valley is magical.
Very enjoyable, good friendly group we were with and Alex the tour guide was good fun and very informative.
Such a lovely experience! This tour was very well-paced and made for a beautiful (and tasty) day. Alex was the best guide! Super friendly, welcoming, informative, and overall great vibes. Highly recommend!
Booked directly with Living Tours, super easy. They emailed us with pick up time the afternoon of the day before the tour. Alex was a wonderful tour guide. He was humorous and knowledgeable. The pace and the activities were excellent. Totally worth it to go in a small group
Alex was a fantastic guide and made us feel so comfortable!
While there are a number of places to see and attractions to partake of in Porto, it is well worth your time to get out of the city for a day and experience the Douro Valley. We did that with a scheduled one-day small group excursion operated through Living Tours. We chose to take the small group tour as they often offer the opportunity to meet people with similar interests as well as provide a more informal and relaxed interaction with the guide/driver. We were picked up at our hotel just after 8:30 to begin the day long excursion. Our first stop was Amarante, a small town on the Tamega River to visit the Renaissance and Baroque designed Mosteiro de São Gonçalo. Inside visitors witness the ornate beauty of the altar and pipe organ. Our first wine stop was at Quinta Do Beijo. Note that other groups may stop at other wineries. Sarah took us into a room with a number of wine barrels where we tasted a white wine, a rose and a red. All quite good. The she took us into the room where the grapes are stomped to explain the wine making process. The next stop was in a room with huge oak barrels where we tried two types of Port Wine, a white and a red. Here also Sarah explained the work that goes into inspecting the barrels, and as part of that we each got to squeeze though an opening and crawl inside a barrel. The next stop was Pinhāo, where we boarded a boat for a leisurely cruise up the Douro River and then back. The ride offered views of the hillside vineyards and estates. Once off the boat we were on our way to the next winery and a traditional three-course lunch at Quinta Do Monte Travesso. Again, other groups may stop at other wineries. The first course consisted of meat, cheese and bread paired with a white wine. The second course was a green vegetable soup paired with a rose, and the third course was salad, rice and slow cooked beef paired with a red wine. Dessert was Leite-Crème, or Portuguese Burnt Custard. It is burnt when the sugar is spread on the top and a hot iron burns it, resulting in a bit of a flame. Such a lunch requires an appetite, so go light on the breakfast so you can experience the flavors of Portugal. The drive back to Porto takes about an hour, and we filled that by talking to our guide/driver, Fred, about the area, the wines, his pets and family … like I said, friendly interaction makes such a tour more interesting, relaxing and informative. It was our experience that Living Tours is an operation that offers a bountiful experience to their clientele. While each small group may visit different wineries, the overall experience remains awesome and inspiring.
We had a wonderful day on this small group tour of the Douro Valley. Our guide Filipe was excellent — charming, funny, and very knowledgeable. He’s studying to become a literature professor, and it showed in the best way: he brought the history and stories of the region to life alongside the wine, and knew the area inside out. The drive through the valley was beautiful and a great ride in itself, and the combination of wine tastings, lunch, and the river cruise made for a perfect day. Highly recommended — especially with Filipe as your guide!
Alex 10/10 Best tour ever! I was worried but the food was pretty good! Great site, great energy! Would recommend. Rui 0/10!
