We waited for over 20 minutes at our meeting point for the tour guide to show up. I tried to message and call the tour provider several times, with no success. We gave up and began walking to the destination as we had limited time. The guide called me, completely unapologetic, asking for us to walk back to the meeting point. When we asked him to instead catch up to us, he said he would do so in 5 minutes. 10 minutes later, we he still had not shown up, we called him back. He asked for another 5. At that point, we had no more time- or patience, frankly- and told him the entire thing was unprofessional and disappointing. We walked around the market on our own. I have requested a refund. We’ve always had great experiences with tours booked through viator, which is why it is so disappointing that this happened.
The different types of food options on the tour. The guide was very helpful and knowledgeable. The guide was also very engaging with everyone. I would do this tour again.
We're glad you enjoyed the diverse food options and the engaging and knowledgeable guide. We'd love to have you join us again for another tour!
We had such a great time, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun! You'll learn about the history of the market and get to taste a little of everything so come hungry! Bring a hat and sunscreen, in the summer it can get hot.
Thank you for the positive feedback! We're delighted you enjoyed the market tour and our guide's expertise. Thanks for the summer tip, and we hope to see you again soon!
Yael was our guide and she was fantastic! Not only was the food yummy, but we got a lot of history about Tel Aviv and about the Carmel market. We had 2 different juices, went to the famous "dancing Yemini's" for a kind of meat & veggie on this amazing puffy break that they bake right there in a special oven, then another roll up on bread but Morrocan style with shredded beef, then two giant bowls of hummus with lots of "mix-in's"- also fantastic, then what I would call panna cotta but it is Malabi here, milk pudding topped with candied cashews, pomegranates and coconut- needless to say, we were completely stuffed! Definitely do this tour and I hope you get Yael!
The tour was so interesting. Our guide, Noam, was excellent - informative, well organized, very enjoyable company. She was able to explain the history of the food as well as the ingredients and preparation. I would highly recommend this tour
Dear Penny, Thank you for your positive review and recommendation of our tour. We're delighted to hear that you found it interesting and that Noam, our guide, provided an excellent experience. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for another enjoyable tour in the future. Best regards.
Food was excellent. The location is a fascinating mix of cultures. The guide pointed out many unique facts about the food, cultures, and history we would have missed on our own. The price was extremely reasonable.
Hagita made the market come alive. I’ve been before but always felt a bit overwhelmed and baffled by the huge selection of foods and the large crowds. Hagita steered us through the stalls and picked the best of what the market has to offer.
The booking was easy for a group of nine. But the meeting place was a bit confusing. Caused some confusion and delay in starting, as well as a few phone calls back-and-forth. That is unfortunate…. … guide was friendly and nice, first stop, was the bathrooms, which I think is smart. And we had two hours of walking through a market. The tour could be improved if they hit more spots and had less volume served per spot.. I would prefer more and different options regarding the kinds of food. For example, maybe 2 types of halva instead of one (cinnamon) … pomegranate, or dragon fruit, something special instead of the strawberry banana smoothie… baklava instead of all of the same huge servings. Get a variety and cut them into smaller pieces…. If you give us a time limit at each place, we would know we can wander a little and shop.;) but overall it was a fun thing to do as a group.
We didn’t think this tour was worth the money. The guide was halfway through another tour with some of the people on our food tour and was not particularly engaged for the market part. She was also vegetarian and made the tour very carb heavy with no meat which I found disappointing. I also asked if we could do our final tasting - which she seemed undecided about - at a Halvah stand but was told no. I get that you can’t customize much in a group tour but this seemed like it would have been easy enough to do. We went through the market in Jerusalem without a guide and had a much better experience.
As an Israeli who has lived here my whole life and visited Carmel Market countless times, I wasn't sure what to expect from this food tour. But I was blown away by all of the hidden gems and delicious places that our guide showed us! Our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly, and shared interesting stories about the history and culture of the market and Tel Aviv. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fresh and delicious perspective on Israeli cuisine. The tour is part of Delicious Israel food tour activities .
