La ruta Marangu, también conocida como ruta “Coca-Cola”, es la ruta más antigua y mejor establecida del Kilimanjaro. Esta es la única ruta que ofrece cabañas para dormir en alojamiento estilo dormitorio en lugar de acampar. Hay 60 literas cada una en Mandara y Kibo Huts, y 120 literas en Horombo Hut. Los huéspedes reciben colchones y almohadas, pero aún así se necesitan sacos de dormir. Las cabañas tienen comedores comunitarios y baños básicos, que van desde inodoros con cisterna y agua corriente en las cabañas inferiores hasta inodoros largos y cubos de agua en Kibo Hut. Muchos prefieren Marangu porque se considera el camino más fácil de la montaña, dada su pendiente gradual y su camino directo. Sin embargo, el corto tiempo de la ruta hace que la aclimatación a la altitud sea bastante difícil. La ruta se acerca al monte Kilimanjaro desde el sureste.
