La Iglesia de San Francisco alberga el testimonio del milagro eucarístico más antiguo del mundo católico. Alrededor del año 700, el monje basiliano dudó de la presencia de Cristo en la Eucaristía: durante la misa, la hostia y el vino consagrados se hicieron carne y sangre. Las dos reliquias, 5 gotas de sangre coagulada y membranas delgadas de la carne se conservan en una custodia de plata y una ampolla de cristal. Los exámenes histológicos muestran que se trata de sangre humana y tejido cardíaco con el mismo grupo sanguíneo (AB) El santuario es visitado cada año por miles de peregrinos de todo el mundo. El Santuario de Manoppello es reconocido como el verdadero Rostro de Jesucristo. Desde 1646, el Santo Rostro está expuesto a la veneración de la gente. Es un velo suave, la urdimbre y la trama se entrelazan en forma de tejido normal y el rostro de la Sábana Santa de Turín y el de Manoppello. Ambas telas habían sido colocadas sobre el cuerpo de Jesús.

Roma representa el punto de partida pero también el final del recorrido, ya que habrá 2 horas de viaje en coche para llegar a Lanciano y luego 2 horas para regresar desde Manoppello a su alojamiento.
La ciudad de Lanciano es sobre todo cuna del arte para la presencia de numerosos monumentos, a partir del santuario del milagro eucarístico, que conserva el testimonio del milagro eucarístico más antiguo del mundo católico. Alrededor del año 700, en la antigua iglesia de San Legonziano, un monje basiliano expresó sus dudas sobre la presencia de Cristo en la Eucaristía. Durante la misa, la hostia y el vino consagrados se convirtieron realmente en carne y hueso. Las reliquias se guardan en una custodia admirada por miles de fieles.
Dentro del Santuario de Manoppello se encuentra, dentro de una vitrina, lo que se reconoce como el verdadero Rostro de Jesucristo. Según cuenta la leyenda, en 1506 un peregrino se presentó ante el físico Giacomo Antonio Leonelli y le entregó el preciado regalo. El velo permaneció en la casa de los Leonelli hasta 1608, cuando fue robado por un mercenario y vendido a Donatantonio De Fabritiis, quien a su vez lo donó al padre capuchino Clemente da Castelvecchio, que colocó la reliquia entre dos vasos con marco de nogal. Desde 1646, el Santo Rostro está expuesto a la veneración del pueblo. Es un velo suave, donde la urdimbre y la trama se entrelazan como en un tejido normal. La tela mide 17 x 24 cm y muestra la imagen de un rostro masculino con cabello largo y barba dividida en franjas; es el único caso en el mundo donde la imagen es idénticamente visible en ambos lados.

Incredible pilgrimage! It was a faith deepening experience. Two absolutely amazing miracles! The heat muscle and blood of Jesus in the flesh is the first Eucaristic Miracle of it's kind and had been proven to be human heart tissue and human type AB blood. To be in it's presence and see it with our own eyes was amazing and profound. Then the face of the veil is striking, and when that image is overlayed with the images from other veils, the result is spectacular. This is definitely a worthwhile pilgrimage. I took this trip with my wife. We rode in a luxury car with a great driver through beautiful mountains. Our tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable, and able to help translate things to English from Italian. The miracles were really special. With the advanced notice we gave them, they were able to accommodate our vegan dietary restrictions for a great lunch. It was an excellent 12 hour day. I highly recommend it!

Francisco and our driver were amazing. They took very good care of us. The information Francisco shared at each site was very knowledgeable. We were not rushed at either site, Francisco was very patient giving us plenty of time for prayer. We wish all of our tour guides were as good at their job as Francisco is. Our driver was very careful in traffic and always available for extra help. The excellent Italian lunch was wonderful, Francisco's choices for food was tasty and very Italian. Foods we had not tried.

This was a day trip to see both the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano and the Holy Face at Mannopello. Both holy places are unforgettable and going with Rome Italy Explora made the trip both safe and comfortable. I was able to spend a sufficient amount of time to pray during the visit to these 2 holy places. The tour guide, Maria Luisa and the driver, Florian both exhibited professionalism and ensured I was comfortable throughout the trip. Maria Luisa is highly fluent in English and was able to demonstrate expert knowledge on historical and cultural aspects and even give tips on places to eat at her own initiative. They were both considerate of my concerns and preferences for the entire trip and I am glad I was with them. For those who would like private, custom trips around Italy, I'd definitely recommend Rome Italy Explora as the agency of choice.

Our family of 5 from the US booked this trip as an excursion for a day to get out of busy Rome. A beautiful trip to the more rural Adriatic side of Italy. Two deeply moving spiritual sites that cannot be expressed with words. Francesco and Roberto took amazing care of us for the day and also sprinkled in some walks of the local towns along the way, local food (amazing arrosticini!!), and other surprises we appreciated. This was a near 12-hour return journey. The 2 drivers ensured the long drive was undertaken safely. Our guide Rossana exercised flexibility to accommodate my less mobile elderly sister. As requested, she even arranged a private Mass for my group at Lanciano although, for convenience, we joined a group from Australia for Mass instead. At Manopello, she arranged for Friar Fr. Abel to recount the history of the Holy Face and explain its deeper meaning to us. This trip is indeed spiritually uplifting.

The Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano is one of the places that the mysticism and spirituality that defy the physical laws conjugate. Seeing that piece of desiccated flesh and blood brings you closer to God. You won’t find architectural attractions here, but a lot of faith. I believe that after the pandemic, it will be a point where many people will go to renew their faith, give thanks and find comfort. I totally recommend it
