I read the reviews beforehand and knew you walked around mostly by yourself. What you’re really paying for is the convenience of access to the front of the line and having someone else secure your ticket. You still have to pay for the ticket on top of the tour. My tour was free because of a credit and I prefer to do most of it alone but for what you get it is overpriced. You’re basically paying for convenience. The tour part was maybe 30 minutes and nothing I couldn’t google. Nice guide though
That the tour is in English, you must plan on clothing to cover your shoulders, and above all, the entrance fee is not included. You have to add 26€ per person and I discovered it on the voucher after having paid. Given the price of the activity, it is incomprehensible to pay for the entrance on top of that. The guide is very nice, but a one-hour guided tour with an earpiece, half outside the cathedral, half inside, for more than 15 people, which is almost 1000€ per hour, looks like taking advantage of uninformed tourists; it is even deceptive when the activity title indicates a guide with rooftop access. We were not the only ones surprised to have to pay extra. The guide handed us tickets to access the roofs without asking our opinion on the ascent time. Appointment at 11:00 AM, tour starts at 11:30 AM and elevator at 3:00 PM; others had 1:30 PM. The only nice surprise, the broken elevator forced us to walk up because we had the Scala tour scheduled at 2:00 PM. It is completely doable and magnificent when you emerge onto the marble roof with its impressive chiseled structure. The best part of the tour, but the guide does not accompany us; he ends the tour behind the heart of the cathedral with a few tips. Very disappointing. It is better to book independently or hire a private guide. The notification from Viator makes me fear the worst for the Scala tour. We thought we would have privileged skip-the-line access, but not even the entrance for a price that was high nonetheless. We hesitated, and I advise French people to move along.
Fun facts that make the cathedral live. Humor and courtesy. The Netflix series visible in the stained glass windows. Nice combination with views from the roof.
Fantastic tour and tour guide (Mauricio); incredible history. We took the elevator up then climbed additional stairs to get to the highest level. Historic heat wave for a few days, narrow steps and challenging for me physically but worth it. Would not recommend attempting in the hot summer like we did if your health/ legs are compromised. From the top I counted 211 steps down to floor level. We earned our gelato today 😊
I would never, ever sign up to do anything with TripWeavers. Impatient, rude, condescending guide who just walked away from us.
Wonderful the tour guide was fabulous and very knowkedgeable! the Duomo is amazing. I would highly recommend this tour ! Take the elevator up but it is high and takes awhile to get down the stairs
The guide was a very nice guy. We had to search to find him and he didn’t do much. He sold tickets to Duomo and said go to the museum for about 40 minutes. Then when we came back he brought us through the cathedral for about 45 minutes which was ok. He then said goodbye so we went up the elevator to top of cathedral
The group that would conduct the tour had a signalling and identification of the location of the meeting point so bad that I identified them in time. I asked several people in the vicinity and no one is willing to help. I did not receive a message in time to find the group of the booked time, as the square was very filled I ended up paying a visit directly with the Duomo. I would like a refund.
It was great getting last minute ticket and tour. Tour guide was quite friendly and knowledgeable The description on the web said it included the cost to enter the cathedral. But after you booked in the details, it said it didn’t I have booked these type of tours before, and I never had it where you have to pay again to get into the facility Also, the guy was super knowledgeable about history, but it was really short chat advertised as an hour. I think it was 30 minutes and cost an extra €26. For a total of €86 for 30 minutes.
Mis-sold is all I can say. Understood the fact that we had to spend additional money to get into the Duomo so it was £54 each plus 26 euros each in total. The guide was considerate & knowledgable however when it is billed as a 2 hour event (with rooftop access at your leisure - i.e. not guided which we understood from the description, we literally only had the guide for a total of 20-25 mins - including the queue time to get in to the building. It was such a whistle-stop tour of the main sights & history everyone on the tour felt short-changed when he abruptly left us behind the altar. There were 5 people on the tour - Australian couple and a single US traveller with us 2 Brits. The Duomo itself & the roof access was good. It was the guided bit which was not worth the money.
