We had a great experience with huskies and our Roman guide. From the meeting with the dogs to the big start. Then discover the snowy nature between the lodge and the river. We go up along this frozen river and then we stop to eat. After a nice break, listening to the explanations of our guide, we take the sled to make the journey in the opposite direction. An unforgettable moment.
The sled riding was super fun. Jakob our guide did an excellent job. It looked like everyone was having a great experience.
Seriously cannot recommend this experience enough!!!! An absolutely amazing day, you get to drive your own dog sled (only if you want to) through the stunningly spectacular arctic countryside. The snow covered trees, stark snow landscapes, and unbelievable views are not to be missed. Then adding in the experience of dog sledding and being a musher? Absolutely unreal. I can’t say enough good things!! Holmen Husky does everything right - they provide transportation to and from town, extremely warm insulated snow suits, boots, hats and mittens so you don’t have to have your own, the dogs are unbelievably cute and amazing, the guides are awesome (shout out Martina). It is a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Was there with the job and drove dogs and had lunch. We were well received by professional instructors and guests who made us feel welcome and safe. The silence behind a dog trail through the winter forest cannot be described well enough, it must only be experienced. The food and storytelling in the afternoon, in a warm lavvo, was a perfect end to the day. I highly recommend this!
We had stayed at the Sorrisniva Lodge but booked a private dog sled tour with Holmen Husky AS. The tour started at 15:00, so it was already dark due to the polar night. The dog sled ride itself lasted 1 hour. The dog sled guide on our tour was Benji. It was a fantastic experience. We were each given a headlamp so that we could see enough despite the darkness. We have already undertaken various dog sledding trips in Tromso in the past few years. However, the experience in the dark was once again quite different. The ride under the starry sky had a very special, dreamlike atmosphere. We had a very good impression of the dog sled farm. Also in relation to the farms we had experienced so far, in our estimation at Holmen Husky Farm there are really very good conditions for the dogs. A very big compliment also to our dog sled handler Benji. We were used to dog sledding on other farms, that the guides were unfortunately very verbose, so we were all the more excited that he told us a lot of interesting things about the animals and the landscape during the trip. His affectionate treatment of the animals also showed us that someone here sees his profession as a calling and pursues it with enthusiasm. Thank you. We can really highly recommend the dog sled tour and will book it again on our next visit to Alta.
We had so much fun with the dogs and our guide was terrific. The scenery was incredible. I was concerned I wouldn't feel good about the dogs pulling sleds, but I was so excited to see how well cared for their dogs are. They are sweet, playful and very well mannered. Our guide made sure we were comfortable through the entire ride. It snowed and had been snowing, a lot, for the past few days. Fresh snow, great dogs, moose, it could not have been a better experience.
Thank you for your lovely review! We're so happy you had a great time with the dogs and even spotted a moose! It means a lot to hear you felt reassured about the care of our dogs. Their well-being is our top priority, and we’re proud of how happy, healthy, and sporty they are.
Great experience!! You can drive the dog sled yourself and get a lot of information about the keeping and training of the dogs.
We booked ( through P&O. Bit wary as some of experiences haven’t been very good. But this!!!! This was beyond amazing. The 4 hours we spent at Holmen Huskies was so immersive. The owner was knowledgeable and friendly, the husky sledding was totally mind blowing and the opportunity to meet the huskies was tremendous. We had plenty of opportunities to get close and personal with the huskies and given to lots of interesting information. A sit around a blazing fire in the teepee with warm drink and biscuits warmed us up between outdoor activities. Well worth the money. Yes, it wasn’t cheap but once we understood the maintenance of the huskies and all that the centre offers it was worth every NOK. Would definitely recommend and we are definitely going back.
Great experience, the highlight of our cruise. Everything was very well organised from the booking process to the taxi pickup service and the provision of top class winter clothing. The guide was exceptional in her knowledge of the huskies and in her driving. Highly recommend this experience.
We had a great time on the dog sledding excursion and recommend this outfitter for other travelers! The huskies (and staff) seem very happy and eager to be out running the trails. There were around 9 of us on the tour with 4 guides. I rode while my partner "drove" (musher) and we switched midway through the ~1.5 hours we were on the trail. After the dog sledding, we warmed up in the lavvu with a birch fire and hot coffee/tea/cake and then got to spend a while petting as many of the dogs as we wanted (they were all very friendly pups and eager for all the pets!). It is very cold in early December (-15 C when we were picked up from Sorrisniva at 9am); the company provides suits, mittens, goggles, and boots to help keep you warm over your personal warm clothes. The company provided/offered a return transfer from Sorrisniva.
