4.5 because the driver and guide, they team in bolivia were brilliant - the team managing this tour behind the scenes are the ones who bring the rating down. On the first night we were picked up on time in a car taken to the bus station and the service was brilliant. The driver made sure we had all the right instructions. After a night bus we arrived at the next destination was able to shower and get started for the tour where we met Ivan our driver and tour guide he was brilliant, calm, funny and informative. I really appreciated him. The views on this trip, on the road, on the salts, on the mountains were the most incredible and a memory I love! BUT..... The management team let the side down! To start no one contacted me, I spent over $600 on a tour and boone contacted me, I had to write twice and eventually through viator, I got worried it was some scam! Then the jeeps we were in were broken and uncomfortable, the seat belts did not work for us or the driver. The driver was brilliant, but he is not responsible for the tools he drives...unfortunately he had a lot of people complain to him about things, things he is obviously not responsible for, he works for a company who are clearly not investing in safety. I share this to give a real picture, the trip is amazing, food and accommodation are basic as we are on the road in remote locations, the team there do a great job and I do reccomend this trip, but just know it may not be perfect. Thank you Ivan and the team in Bolivia!
This was an amazing experience from LA Paz to San Pedro de Atacama. It was well planned and stress free door to door service. Everything was well organized. It was nice that upon arrival in Uyuni by sleeper bus that we were able to have access to a private hotel room to rest and shower before starting our first full day. Our guide Julia spoke perfect English and was always eager to answer our questions and accommodate our needs. Julia is an asset to this tour company. Crossing the land border between Bolivia and Chile was a breeze. There was another guide in the Chilean side who dropped us off at the San Pedro De Atacama Bus terminal. I highly recommend this tour to anyone.
We are two travelers from Hong Kong, and had an unforgettable trip with Joker Expedition. Our guide Oscar was exceptional - knowledgeable, attentive, and always going the extra mile to show us the best views and share fascinating insights about Bolivia. The most interesting part is about flamingos and you would never learn that many details from any other guide. Our driver Samuel was fantastic as well, incredibly skilled and caring, making every journey safe and comfortable even on challenging roads. We had chocolate, drinks, cookies everywhere during the trip and all settings were perfectly matching with the scene. Altitudes was definitely a problem but as long as you take a good rest (e.g. we had a hot water shower at an altitude of 4600 meters, basically nowhere but a amazing hotel with everything you can imagine), everything should be fine. Thanks to Oscar and Samuel, we enjoyed stunning lagoons, amazing wildlife, and a perfect visit to the Uyuni Salt Flats. We highly recommend Joker Expedition for their professionalism and warm hospitality.
The tour we paid for was in Spanish but the guide did it in English. The driver gave us some explanations in Spanish but they were more summarized
Was positively surprised - everything worked super well. One of the guides spoke only Spanish and did not say much. Antonio, on the other hand, was very telling and helpful. Really great experiences and nights and food was better than expected when we read the reviews. Also the night bus from la Paz was super - only 3 seats across and really luxury space. We definitely recommend the trip
The whole tour was very well organised from the hotel pick-up and transfer to La Paz Bus Station. Everything just fell into place thereafter. We travelled by 4WD throughout with Luis as guide - he was excellent, very good driver and extremely experienced and knowledgeable. Salar de Uyuni was magnificent and we had plenty of time there. On the way to the first nights accommodation Luis stopped so we could see the Milky Way. The rest of the trip was spent in a spectacular part of the Andes with magnificent scenery everywhere. The tour showed us the best of the Bolivian Andes. Luis helped with the formalities at the Hito Cajon border crossing and was helpful throughout. This is a tour to a very safe but underdeveloped and remote part of Bolivia where roads are rough and accommodation options are few and fairly basic. There were early starts but that is expected. All meals were provided and included. It can get a bit tiring but it's a rewarding part of the world.
We had such an amazing time on this tour. The salt flats were amazing and we saw so many great things including flamingos. I would really recommend this tour though the food isn’t great so I would suggest bringing your own snacks.
It was a great trip through Uyuni. Some of the most beautiful sights we have ever seen. The tour guides were also terrific and passionate. We were very disappointed with the food and half of the group got food poisoning which ruined the last day. It is also freezing cold so be prepared for that.
It is impossible to give an unequivocal assessment of this trip. Beautiful views and nature unseen anywhere else in the world are the only advantages of this trip. The rest leaves much to be desired in the execution of this company, which unfortunately I do not recommend. The program was partially carried out omitting many of the described points and nothing in return. Tragic overnight stays. In Europe, pigs sleep in better conditions - especially the second night was a nightmare. Filth and dirt everywhere. An old jeep, running only thanks to the driver's skills. Forcing people to pose for photos, even though they do not want to. What is this - the army or prison at your own expense.Bus from La Paz without dinner and unheated at night. After arriving in Uyuni we got a good breakfast in clean conditions and a good room for 2 hours - that's a plus
Such a beautiful area. Glad we did the tour. Enjoyed the shower after the long bus ride- that was a beautiful hotel. I am not sure we could have done this on our own, especially as well. Miguel Angel was a great guide- very knowledgable and clearly loves the area. Drawbacks: Both lunches were brought along and served at dining areas along the way. I do think the second lunch led to an illness my hubby and I suffered the day after the trip. I also wish we would have shopped around either in la paz or uyuni rather than use trip advisor. There are tons of tours available, not all stay in uyuni after the salt flats. Also Joker Expedition was not our guide. They just got us from la paz to uyuni then we were passed on to Salty Expeditions. All guides and employees were nice.
