We had a wonderful time on the Sydney Sundancer. John positioned the boat in the perfect spot which gave us uninterrupted views of the fireworks whilst Lynne provided a truly superb buffet. We all agreed that the lobster was the best we'd ever tasted. They were supplemented by a small but extremely friendly and efficient crew who looked after us all throughout our six hours on board. Highly recommended.
We were on the Sydney Sundancer December 31, 2025. It was truly the experience of my life! Seeing the fireworks in Sydney harbor was always on my bucket list, but we never expected to ever be so close to the fireworks as we were! Everything was so well organized. We were on the boat form 5 pm to about 1am. We had the privilege of of seeing two fireworks show that night.. the 9pm and the midnight ones. The hospitality was over the top. Champagne and plentiful appetizers when we boarded were delicious.. pate, shrimp, lobster. We were two of 50 unknown to us people and we had a lovely group of international people who were truly our friends at the end of the night. Dinner was served at 9pm and it really dazzled….a huge buffet of lobster, salmon, turkey, salads, and more. Dessert was also over the top With Lynne’s homemade cakes that I still dream about along with fruit, candy, nuts. We. We’re. Right. There. Up front and close with no one in front of us for the spectacular fireworks.!! Our captain, John, visited with us after the fireworks and got to spend time with us. All of the staff were welcoming and helpful.. Honestly, the experience of a lifetime. What a way to cross off my bucket list. I’ll never forget it.
I enjoyed a magical experience on the Sydney Sundancer! The yacht is class with character, and the hosts are amazing! From start to finish we were thoroughly taken care of with some great chats and tasty foods. I can highly recommend booking the Sydney Sundancer to anyone wanting to enjoy a fun, safe and memorable time on a luxury yacht in the awesome Sydney Harbour
From the Sydney Sundancer yacht you have the best view of the fireworks at the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The fireworks were great.
Thank you for your review. I hope you have now received our email containing more than 100 photographs that Lynne took during the evening ?
This New Years Eve Experience was spectacular from start to finish! The more intimate setting on the sole proprietor craft was lovely and very relaxing. John, Lynn, and their crew were so welcoming and you felt like you were with family. Lynn prepared a delicious meal from appetizers to desserts that reflected the local cuisine and went beyond expectations!! This was on my bucket list and I put it right back on to do this excursion again. John’s “spot” for the fireworks was fabulous and we had a perfect view of the harbor, bridge, and Opera House. I want to thank Lynn and John from the bottom of my heart for a New Year’s Eve that I will always remember!!!
Thank you Nancy & Michael, it was a pleasure having you both aboard. By limiting our guest numbers to 50 (even though our charter yacht "Sydney Sundancer" is licenced to carry more than 70 passengers + crew), we take pleasure in creating the ambiance of a private party aboard our floating home. I recollect that soon after anchoring, I identified the location as the only "spot" on the whole Harbour where your photographs can feature all 4 simultaneously launched firework displays as well as the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, AT ONCE! We were right on the perimeter of the exclusion where no boats are permitted & the closest firework launching barge was only about 100 metres away so the sound of exploding fireworks was so loud that it felt like we were in a was zone! Later today, Lynne will be emailing all guests more than 70 photographs she took throughout the evenings activities as a memento of the occasion. We look forward to welcoming you aboard again
Excellent NYE 2024/2025 on Sydney Harbour. Delivered very good drinks, food and harbour experience for about 50 adults on the Sydney Sundancer. Owners / hosts were professional and the whole night, including excellent viewing spot, was very well received by all on board. I WOULD recommend this to anyone.
Hi Roger & Kathy, Thank you for your review, even though Sydney Sundancer is licensed to carry more than 70 guests, we limit the number of guests to 50 to ensure everyone's personal comfort through adequate space. With the whole Harbour "packed" with boats, it is difficult to anchor in a location where other boats are not spoiling our view of the worlds best firework display. Fortunately from the location where I chose to anchor we had uninterrupted views of the Opera House, city skyline & Harbour Bridge. The ambiance was enhanced by the close proximity to the nearest fireworks barge. The sound of explosions sending the fireworks into the sky was like being in a war zone. AND the fireworks were electronically set off at exactly the same time so from our location we could see all 4 firework displays in the air together. Lynne and I are really glad you enjoyed the night so much !
According to the website, the boat was supposed to navigate into the exclusive zone: liar, it was not, and we were pushed far away from the bridge by the police. No other options to seat down, unless you paid an additional fee for $50 pp. Of course, that was not mentioned on the website. The DJ’s was a nightmare, the atmosphere was terrible, morne, sad, gloomy, almost nobody was motivated to dance. Having paid $600 pp is a scam Only the staff was nice.
Sorry you had such a bad time BUT YOU WERE NOT ON OUR BOAT. Have a look at the reviews posted by other people who were aboard our yacht named Sydney Sundancer, do you remember the name of the boat you were on? With regard to position on the Harbour New Year’s Eve is not just about fireworks, there is a whole evening of entertainment including the Harbour of Light Parade. The first year (1998 – 1999) Sydney City Council conceived of this event, we won the prize for the Best Illuminated Vessel and every year since then, although we are invited to join the parade, we have declined. There are several reasons why: 1. On New Years’ Eve, there is an exclusion zone in the centre of the harbour, marked by floating flashing lights to keep vessels at a safe distance from the various firework barges from which the display is launched. As a charter vessel, we have a “reserved area” just east of this exclusion zone in the middle of the Harbour which is a perfect position to view the fireworks. We anchor Sydney Sundancer right on the perimeter of this exclusion zone so that our guests experience the full panorama of the whole display. There is a barge nearby which releases the fireworks in unison with all the other firework barges, so our guests appreciate the full experience of being close to the fireworks (the impact of exploding fireworks is like being in a “war zone” !) AND the depth of the display as each explosion of light and colour mirrors the other into the distance (there is no other location on the harbour where this effect can be seen !). If you wish to visit our web site (Viator will not permit me tell you the address) so all you have to do is search for Sydney Sundancer (which is Australia's most awarded charter boat) to see how wrong you are. In all the New Years Eve photographs you will see the expanse of Sydney Harbour with no boats obstructing our view, our position on the harbour is second to none ! 2. Between the two firework displays, (9pm & midnight), there is a parade of Illuminated vessel in “single file” around the inside edge of the exclusion zone. As the edge of the exclusion zone is not straight or perfectly curved, the parade of illuminated vessels winds its’ way along the inside of the perimeter like a giant illuminated “sea serpent”, right past our location. Our guests have ring side seats for this display, whereas those participating in the parade are only able to see the vessel immediately in front and immediately behind their own vessel in the parade (because the parade is in single file). During this time, we serve the main course, dessert and cheese platter etc. so the illuminated vessels are constantly on the move, providing entertainment for our guests. 3. After the parade, the illuminated vessels are located just east of the Harbour Bridge and in the vicinity of the Opera House. This position is, in our opinion, too close to the firework display for their passengers to appreciate the full panoramic effect of the fireworks. Because they have such visual impact, they need to be viewed from a reasonable distance away to see the fireworks at their best. It’s a bit like buying the cheaper “front row stalls” tickets at the movies rather than the more expensive “dress circle” seats at the rear of the cinema! 4 If you are aboard a boat that is in the vicinity of the Opera House, you will be too close the fireworks where the smoke is so thick that you cannot see anything. I can send you photographs where the whole Opera House and everywhere nearby could not see anything at all because the left side of the Harbour Bridge is engulfed with smoke from the fireworks. All the vessels in the Harbour of Light Parade and anyone in the vicinity of the Opera House would have their view of the proceedings would be totally obliterated by smoke, I understand the charter boat skippers engulfed by smoke wished they had gas masks to issue to their patrons.
Great experience, best view possible with constant work of John, he did a fantastic job. His wife Lynne prepared an amazing dinner. The only thing was that the boat felt like it was at it‘s max capacity so 10 people less would be better so everyone can get a comfortable seat. View of the fireworks was amazing!
Hi Paul & Manuella, Thanks for recognising the difficulty I had maintaining our position in the location where our guests would experience the BEST VIEW of the fireworks possible! The hull of Sydney Sundancer was about 2 metres from the edge of the exclusion zone. If I had crossed into the exclusion zone, a Maritime Official would have instructed me to move to a location with very much inferior views, so I had to manoeuvre all night ! On New Years Eve most charter boats selling tickets accept the maximum number of guests they are permitted to carry. Sydney Sundancer is licensed to carry in excess of 70 passengers + crew on Sydney Harbour but Lynne and I only sell 50 tickets so we can guarantee everyone’s personal comfort through adequate space. We had armchairs and seats for all guests and there was always empty chairs and adequate space for people to walk around the deck with ease.
It was a wonderful evening on the Sydney Harbor. We were a family of 5. 3 adult children. The old tall sail was fabulous. When they first approached to pick us up I was concerned about the seating, but there was plenty of room. The food was good, but if you don't eat meat, perhaps bring a snack. They did provide veggie items later in the evening. Hospitality was wonderful. Everyone was so kind. Bring a sweater because it can get cold. Definitely a fantastic way to see the fireworks and get to know people and have fun. There was a performer singing great hits from 70s and 80s and some dancing too. Highly recommend it.
Hi Judith, I am glad you and your family had a great New Years' Eve however, you did not spend the evening aboard our yacht Sydney Sundancer !
This truly checked off a top item on my bucket list. John maneuvered the boat so that we had a front row view of the New Years fireworks over the Harbor Bridge. In addition, the food was abundant and tasty, and there was champagne, wine, and beer flowing freely for those who wanted it. It was an experience I will never forget!
Hi Mary, It was a pleasure to have you aboard on such a special occasion. I hope you like the photos we have sent, they will help you show your friends & family what a spectacular event NYE is on Sydney Harbour
