Definitely go to waheike and rotoroa but just book the ferry from the office. This was literally just prepaid ferry rides. We also got dropped off for man o war first which meant only 1 hour on Rotoroa (after wine tasting) which really isnt enough time.
It is better to go to rotoroa alone and try to enjoy it to the fullest. There are two beautiful beaches that deserve to stay for a while, with this tour it is impossible. Man O' War is not worth it at all and you arrive very close to the return at 2.30pm if you don't have to wait until 5.30pm and I'm sure you'll go full because the whole island will look to leave. The boat ride is very long but beautiful, during the crossing if you have a guide explaining everything you see, very good, but this is from the tour operator of the boats. Better go directly to the port and look for other packages The tour does not include water. There is no guide to explain anything.
I would have to agree with other review. Boat ride was great. But alot of rushing around and not enough time to do things. Still would recommend this tour. Great views everywhere.
The trip was great but but there were two things which could be improved. Firstly the 2 hours spent an Rotoroa island isn't quite enough for a leasurely walk around the island - you might be able to do a short walk and a swim before needing to hurry back to the warf so don't expect to see much of the island. When you get to Man O War vineyard, there is no guarantee that you will get a table and may have to queue fo a while. We queued for 20 mins due to the demand. People arriving by ferry are not booked in or given any priority at the vineyard. It was very busy so we had to wait in a queue to order food for around 20 minutes and then the food took at least 40 minutes to be made. We only had 1.5 hours at the vineyard so everything was a bit rushed. My advice is to call the vineyard and make a booking - this way you aren't sitting on the grass. It felt like the wine at the vineyard was priced way higher than you can just get it from woollies ~$70 for a bottle of pinot gris which was still cheaper than $18 for a glass (plastic cup).
We were uncertain about going because of the weather forecast I. Auckland, but had a beautiful hike on Rotora and a great time at the Man O War winery! So glad we went. Dark sky when we returned to the city but clear sky over the harbor! Staff was helpful on the boat! Recommend this tour!
