Gangaramaya es uno de los templos budistas más antiguos de Colombo, iniciado por el famoso monje erudito Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera a finales del siglo XIX. Después del Venerable Sri Sumangala, su alumno principal Devundera Sri Jinaratana Nayake Thera asumió la administración del templo. Fue él quien sentó las bases para convertir el pequeño templo en un instituto de reconocimiento internacional. El siguiente jefe incumbente fue el Ven. Devundara Keerthi Sri Sumangala Jinaratana Vacissara Thera, la maestra del Ven. Galboda Gnanissara, quien trabajó para hacer de Gangaramaya lo que es hoy: mucho más que un templo en el término convencional, pero un lugar de culto, una sede de aprendizaje y un centro cultural.
El edificio de estilo neobarroco fue construido durante la época colonial británica para albergar el Consejo Legislativo de Ceilán, y fue una idea de Sir Henry McCallum. Posteriormente, esto se incluyó en una propuesta realizada por un comité para construir el nuevo edificio para la Secretaría, la Cámara del Consejo y las oficinas gubernamentales en terrenos reclamados en el extremo norte de Galle Face, que fue aprobado por el Gobierno en 1920.
Galle Face es un parque urbano junto al mar de 5 ha (12 acres), que se extiende por 500 m (1,600 pies) a lo largo de la costa, en el corazón de Colombo, la capital financiera y comercial de Sri Lanka. El paseo fue diseñado inicialmente en 1859 por el gobernador Sir Henry George Ward, aunque el Galle Face Green original se extendía sobre un área mucho más grande de lo que se ve hoy en día. La cara verde de Galle se utilizó inicialmente para carreras de caballos y como campo de golf, pero también se usó para cricket, polo, fútbol, tenis y rugby.
Independence Memorial Hall (también Independence Commemoration Hall) es un monumento nacional en Sri Lanka construido para conmemorar la independencia de Sri Lanka del gobierno británico con el restablecimiento de la plena responsabilidad de gobierno a una legislatura elegida por Ceilán el 4 de febrero de 1948. Es ubicado en Independence Square (antes Torrington Square) en Cinnamon Gardens, Colombo. También alberga el Museo Memorial de la Independencia. El monumento se construyó en el lugar donde se realizó la ceremonia formal que marca el inicio del autogobierno, con la apertura del primer parlamento por parte de SAR el Príncipe Enrique, duque de Gloucester, en un podio especial el 4 de febrero de 1948. Situada a la cabeza del monumento se encuentra la estatua del primer primer ministro del país, RT. Hon. Don Stephen Senanayake "El Padre de la Nación". La mayoría de las celebraciones anuales del Día de la Independencia Nacional se han celebrado aquí. Además de un monumento, sirvió como salón de asambleas ceremoniales para el Senado de Ceilán y la Cámara de Representantes de Ceilán hasta que el parlamento se trasladó al nuevo complejo parlamentario. Actualmente es el lugar de celebración de eventos religiosos y celebraciones anuales del día nacional.
El Museo Colombo, como se le llamó al principio, se estableció el 1 de enero de 1877. Su fundador fue Sir William Henry Gregory, el gobernador británico de Ceilán (Sri Lanka) en ese momento. La Royal Asiatic Society (CB) contribuyó decisivamente a que Gregory notificara su nombramiento como gobernador en 1872, la necesidad de un museo público con mucha dificultad para obtener la aprobación del consejo legislativo en un año. El Arquitecto del Departamento de Obras Públicas, J.G. Smither pudo preparar los planes para una nueva estructura en el estilo arquitectónico italiano. La construcción se completó en 1876 y el Museo comenzó a funcionar en el año siguiente. Las Autoridades del museo dieron varios pasos para mostrar el patrimonio cultural y natural del país para este propósito. Con el desarrollo del museo a nivel internacional, obtuvo el estatus de museo nacional durante el período del Dr. P. E. P. Deraniyagala. Pudo abrir museos de sucursales en Jaffna, Kandy y Ratnapura, y en 1942 se estableció un Departamento de Museos Nacionales en toda regla con la ley No. 31. La extensión del número de museos de sucursales ahora se ha incrementado a nueve y además También están en funcionamiento un programa escolar de ciencias y un servicio de museo móvil.

La construcción de la mezquita Jami-Ul-Alfar comenzó en 1908 y se terminó en 1909. La comunidad local musulmana india, con sede en Pettah, encargó la mezquita para cumplir con la oración requerida de cinco veces al día y con Jummah los viernes. El diseñador y constructor de la mezquita era Habibu Labbe Saibu Labbe (un arquitecto no calificado), y se basó en detalles / imágenes de estructuras indo-sarracénicas proporcionadas por comerciantes del sur de India, que lo encargaron. Es un estilo híbrido de arquitectura, que se basa en elementos de la arquitectura nativa indoislámica e india, y lo combina con el renacimiento gótico y los estilos neoclásicos. picture is beautiful but the street where it is main street very busy not to do with small children there are cars and a lot of tuk tuks driven and motorcycles you have to be very careful not to get hit

We rented a van for 6 people and had a wonderful day! Our guide Khan was so delightful! He was kind, polite, helpful, and knowledgeable . He took us to all the sites we wanted to see, and was with us every step of the way to help us or answer any questions we may have. The driver was great too and always made sure the motor and a/c were on when we got back into the van. Khan's wife had just had a baby 12 hours before our tour, and he shared a photo of his beautiful baby girl with us. It was a truly memorable day.
We booked a van for 6 people and toured the sites and did some shopping as well. Our guide Khan was wonderful! He was charming, polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. He took us everywhere we wanted to go and stayed with us wherever we went to assist or answer any questions. The driver was great too. Whenever we came back to the van, he had already started it up so the a/c was flowing for our comfort. Khan's wife had just had a baby 12 hours earlier and he shared with us a photo of his beautiful little baby girl. He was a delight ,as was our entire day.

Really enjoyed our tour with Ferose who was an excellent guide. Saw a lot of Colombo in 3-4 hours and found it fascinating. A real mix of old and new.

2 Sisters, cruise ship delayed by hours and nothing stopped our guide Answer from meeting us as arranged, with a beaming smile and welcome, and an air-conditioned mini van for the 2 of us.. no crammed in taxis or tuktuks for us We set off for a slightly modified tour due to the ships changes, on a fun, laughter packed sightseeing afternoon. The sights were fab, assistance thoughtful and the best he could. Sometimes the language barrier got in the way but when I adjusted my fast Australian speech things were much better. We would recommend Kingfisher tours to any solo, group, family or couple.. Thanks

As I’m travelling solo and doing only a 20hrs connection in Sri Lanka, I had no time to waste, so I booked a guide from Kingfisher tours and they sent Ferose Masse to look after me. Ferose was extremely friendly and helpful, no words can describe how much he helped me throughout the entire day! First off, he picked me up at the airport 2 hrs prior the time we had arranged because my flight arrived early, drove me to a breakfast place, and as I had forgotten to take cash out, he lended me cash to spend during the day. From the breakky shop we went on to the Spice Garden experience, which is very nice, I learned a lot about what plants, herbs and natural medicine can do, after the quick tour around the plants we headed to the Elephant activity point, were I was able, for the first time ever, to see, wash, take photos etc of an elephant, what a magical moment!! Then we had lunch, which was provided by the company, the restaurant was very nice and lunch was plenty of options, all with extremely large portions! For last but no least, he drove me to Sigiriyu rock fortress, where I was able to experience one of the most amazing places I’ve ever seen! After spending the entire day driving me around (lots and lots of driving), telling me about the culture, food, being very nice and friendly, Ferose dropped me off at the airport. I highly recommend Kingfisher tours, not only the driver spoke english, but the car was nice and tidy, I will definitely come back. They made the most of my day here! Thank you, Ferose!
