Loved our morning out of the city with Ben. He picked us up bright & early, saw the sun rise over the city from a lookout then had a great breakfast in a local village cafe. The bike ride was fun, a few hills to get the heart pumping but magic to be in the countryside and experiencing the different sights and sounds. Believe him when he says the return ride is easier (!?) and then enjoy lunch and more chats and insights into life in KL. Highly recommend, thanks Ben!
This was a wonderful day with Ben. We started with an early-morning stop at a KL lookout while the sun was just starting to rise and the city lights were gorgeous. Then off to breakfast at an authentic mee (noodles) spot to carb-up before the ride. The route is out-and-back through the gentle rolling hills and you pass absolutely gorgeous scenery along the way. You will also find yourself immersed with many others in the cycling community who are very friendly as you pass. As the ride winds-down you will stop at a natural hot spring to submerge and relax your muscles and recharge. Finally, Ben will take you to a great lunch spot that is a favourite amoung locals and, if you are a visitor, it opens up your experience to continue exploring spots like this on your own later. We had an amazing time and plan to take some additional adventures with Ben.
If you have got this far and found Backcountry Cycling my advice would be just book it! You won’t regret it. The scenery is amazing and you will get to see another side of Malaysia close up. Highlights: Seeing the light of KL just before sunrise from a famous view point, breakfast at a Chinese restaurant, fresh air, green forest surround a huge lake, monkeys eating bananas and chilling at the side of the road, very little traffic on the road and finishing off with a Malay lunch of Nasi Lemak which I had never eaten before and absolutely loved. Ben pick me and one other cyclist up at 6.15am. This may seem early but you get to cycle at the coolest part of the day. The cycle is mostly flat with a few small hills which are not deal breakers and the views at the end are worth it. Ben was a great communicator before and during the trip. The bikes were in good condition and well maintained. He provided 2 bottles of water, nuts and snacks for the cycle. I would highly recommend this trip. I do a number of these types of cycles when I travel and I always wear padded shorts. There is a Decathlon store in KL if you forget to bring your own or don’t have any.
This experience was truly unique and memorable. Ben takes you to a charming rural town just outside Kuala Lumpur, offering a refreshing escape from the city. He provided detailed and helpful information before the tour, making it easy to prepare. On the day of the tour, Ben was punctual, picking us up from our accommodation near KLCC. The experience began with a quick breakfast before gearing up for the 40 km ride. The route included moderate hills and offered a good mix of challenge and enjoyment. Although we cycled on roads, we used mountain bikes, which were forgiving on bumps and potholes, though slightly heavier. Along the way, we visited hot springs, a serene lake, and spotted some wildlife. What stood out was Ben’s wealth of knowledge about the local ecology and history, which added depth to the ride. He was attentive to everyone’s pace, ensuring the experience was enjoyable for all participants. A moderate level of fitness is recommended for this ride, given the distance and hills. To top it off, we enjoyed a delicious light lunch before heading back to town. The combination of adventure, learning, and great company made this an unforgettable experience. I’d absolutely join this tour again!
Fantastic ride! Loved being able to quickly get out of the city, enjoy the outskirts, and still be back by early afternoon. The ride is just the right amount of challenge, with amazing views on the way. Ben was super friendly and insightful. Loved cycling with him!
Wonderful tour and guide. Just a short drive out of the city into great nature. What a contrast. Superb ride and food. Thanks.
Outstanding. In addition to the ride, he was able to make sense of Malaysian culture to a degree I never would have imagined. Sorry for all the questions Ben!
It was a lovely ride, good roads, minimal traffic, stunning views and quaint local village with hot springs! Thoroughly enjoyed the ride and brunch at the end was yummy. Highly recommended
The little Malay village just outside Kuala Lumpur is such a gem. Good roads, minimal traffic and beautiful views of Semenyih Dam. Ended with excellent local food in cafe. All in all, thoroughly enjoyable!
This is my second time doing this ride with Ben, this time I brought along a couple of friends and they loved it as well Ben has been running these adventure tours for 12 years and he’s developed a great package. He can adjust the ride to accommodate cycling experience and challenge you if that’s what you want. Pick up and return to your hotel, a great breakfast and lunch and a riding experience unlike any other. Highly recommended 👍
