Chacahua is a paradise of filth! A complete scam "Don't be fooled by the internet photos; this place is nothing like paradise. It is a nightmare of dirt and discomfort. To begin with, there is never any light, so be prepared to endure eternal blackouts, suffocating heat, with no fan or way to charge your phone. The reality of what you are going to find: * Pollution and plague: The lagoon is completely black, smells horrible, and is full of dead fish floating everywhere. It is a source of infection. * Rude and abusive people: The treatment from the locals and boatmen is terrible and despotic. They charge you exorbitant prices as if it were a luxury destination, when everything is abandoned. * Filth everywhere: There is trash piled up on the beaches and in the town; there is no hygiene in the bathrooms or in the food. Do not go!
We were picked up by Antonio from our hotel. He drove us to Laguna Chacahua. There we took a boat through the mangroves and over to the town of Chacahua and had a late lunch. We took a short hike to watch the sunset then back on the water for the bioluminescence. Antonio took such amazing are of us and we had a magical time! So worth it being cash and bug repellent. And plan for a long day.
Our guide picked us up at our hotel and once we got to the turtle camp was really informative about the history of the project and the turtles. He answered all our questions. We didn’t have to wait long the day we were there and it was a moving experience, hoping yours survives to adult hood with turtle numbers being so low in the wild but hopefully we’ve given them a head start.
Lovely day trip to Chacahua Logoon with super friendly & knowledgable guides. Very unique experience, I loved spending the day on the water and exploring the mangrove forests. Would absolutely reccommed!!
We had such a good time. It was a day packed with activities. Super friendly tour guide. Day ended with a bioluminescent experience.
It is an incredible experience, the Guide very attentive, at all times was giving us data about the place, everything was carried out as itinerary, we were offered bottles of water, the Guide always attentive if we wanted to take any photo, gave us time to tour the place and enjoy more activities. Undoubtedly I recommend this tour for the great wealth that the place has and for the great service they gave us.
We had an excellent experience on our tour with Eco Adventures Puerto Escondido. We did the 8 hour tour to Parque Nacional Lagunas de Chacahua. Our tour guide was Juan and he was so welcoming and knowledgeable. He picked us up at our hotel and took us to the park. Our tour was supposed to be a group tour, but my wife and I were the only ones booked for that day which made the experience even better for us. Boating through the mangroves was spectacular and learning about the flora and fauna was insightful. We then went to village area near where the lagoon meets the ocean for an excellent lunch and relaxation time. Our guide then took us on a short hike to the lighthouse, El Faro de Chacahua, to check out the view from up there. He then guided us to Arco de Piedra where we climbed up on the rock to catch a beautiful sunset. After the sun went down we headed back to the village area and back onto the boat. On the boat ride back we stopped in the middle of the lagoon to experience the bioluminescence. It was pitch black and movement in the water was glowing. I was able to jump into the bioluminescent water for a swim under the night's sky. It was glorious. We then headed back to mainland, and Juan took us back to our hotel. It was a long day, but a truly worthwhile experience.
The Sunset Chacahua Experience was one of the best tours we have ever taken in all our travels. Our guide, Juan Carlos, was wonderful and informative. He shared his knowledge of the ecosystem in Chacahua, and we had a blast with him during our time with him. This experience had a little of everything: drinking from a coconut, chilling on the beach, eating the best taco I have ever had, hiking to a STUNNING beach sunset, and the boat ride through the bioluminescent lagoons was unbelievably cool. Captain Chema was immensely skilled at navigating the boat through the mangrove caves at night....What a RUSH!!! Please don't hesitate to take this tour. It is an experience we will never forget!!!!
Ernesto did a good job showing us places of interest in and around Chacahua. He speaks good English and we appreciated his willingness to help us with our Spanish.
Thank you for sharing your experience! 😊 We're happy to hear you enjoyed the tour and felt comfortable with Ernesto as your guide. It’s always a pleasure to help—even with the Spanish practice 😉. Hope to see you again for more adventures!
Good afternoon, I would like to begin by highlighting the beauty and rich culture of Chacahua, as well as the hard work of its people. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by the actions of Edgar Javier Herrera Arrazola and his son, Kaled. My family and friends rented cabins from them and although initially everything was going well, something unfortunate happened. At the end of our stay, I forgot my wallet under my pillow in the cabin. This contained a significant amount of money. When Mr. Herrera Arrazola and his son returned the wallet, all the money was missing. I confronted them, but they denied any responsibility. It should be noted that they were the only ones who accessed the cabin after our departure. I reported this incident to the Tututepec prosecutor's office, but despite being summoned, Herrera Arrazola did not appear. Due to time constraints, I was unable to pursue the case further. It is discouraging that someone known in the community, like Mr. Herrera Arrazola, could act in this way. The money that was stolen was intended to be used in Chacahua, benefiting those who really work hard. With this letter, I seek to inform future visitors to Chacahua. Be careful when renting cabins from these people to avoid similar situations... @HerreraArrazola
