The tour was cancelled by the operator on the day of the tour. We booked the 18.00hrs tour (other options were 16.00 and 17.00 departures), but the operator asked us to leave at 17.00hrs. We explained that we were not able to get to the pickup location in time for an earlier departure. The operator responded that “based on today's wildlife activity, they (the guide) recommend departing at *5:00 PM*. If we leave an hour later, guests will spend more time driving in fading light, when visibility is reduced and opportunities to spot wildlife decrease. Current wildlife reports indicate that an earlier departure offers the best chance for sightings.” However, the upcoming days they only provide tours starting at 18.00, 19.00 and 20.00hrs. It is totally unclear why our 18.00hrs tour was cancelled with the argument that the chance of spotting wildlife decreases if the tour started later than 17.00hrs, if they only provide later departures on days after our cancelled tour. The days are not getting any longer… As we did not trust the operator to stick to the booked departure times for future bookings (also based on the experiences of cancelled tours described by others), we booked a tour with a different company.
Our Wildlife Viewing Tour is specifically designed to adapt to seasonal wildlife movement. During the summer, wildlife—particularly bears—is often much more active in the early evening. For that reason, we adjusted the departure time to 5:00 PM to provide guests with the best opportunity to see wildlife. This flexibility is clearly described in our tour information. We contacted the guest in advance, explained the reason for the schedule adjustment, and offered them the option to join the tour at the new time. They chose not to attend, which we completely respect. We also provided a full refund in accordance with our 24-hour cancellation policy.
