i had a great time in this nice and cute museum. i made a beautiful scarf and then i got very informativ explanations through the museum. what i loved was how nice it was to dye the cloth and then the opening ceremony and how they gave me the scarf with so much love for the detail!

This small but mighty museum and workshop space is a must for fabric art enthusiasts. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable about the history and production of shibori. Making my scarf was a well-supported activity and the final product was truly thrilling to unfold. The dye was rich and the pattern crisp. Staff wrapped up my scarf as if it was part of the gift shop (another delight, with a huge range of items from polyester shopping bags to silk parasols to denim jackets plus shibori making supplies). Staff also took photos along the way to document my activity. A highlight of my time in Kyoto!

What a lot of fun! Low key, hands on visit good for families and others who have had enough of trudging through shrines and palaces. You learn something about dying, you make a souvenir, you see some interesting videos, you meet some talented locals, you wander through a giftshop full of one-off treasures. Done in 90 minutes top!

A nice introduction to Japanese textile culture. Very friendly reception and guidance in our creative class. With a beautiful end product (scarf) as result😀.

This was a wonderful hands on experience that gives you something to take home from your time in a Japan that you made. The class was fun, very well explained and demonstrated. The museum upstairs is a must. We had a young gentleman curator that took the time to explain and demonstrate Shibori techniques. I was totally fascinated. He was wonderful and gave me a whole new appreciation for the art of Shibori and its many fascinating techniques and processes. Wow! Highly recommend.

Very easy and fun way to make a special souvenir of your trip. We really enjoyed the museum after our lesson and purchased a purse for my mom and samue for my dad.

Boy, was this a lot of fun!! I had been looking forward to this class since I first registered for it. My husband and I each made a Sekka Shibori scarf…now I have two scarves. 😉. Everyone was so kind and helpful. And there was even a nice “unveiling” ceremony of our product at the end of the class. As the staff was packaging up our scarves, we were invited to go upstairs to the museum/shop and watch a short film about the history of Shibori. As with all crafts, it’s a dying art, unfortunately. We also had a private tour of the museum by the owner, who is a fabulous artist in his own right. I would highly recommend taking this class and meeting all the lovely artists/staff who take great pride in their work.

This was really fun and we are proud of our beautiful scarves. We highly recommend this experience. Shibori is a traditional art in Japan and we learned about the different techniques which can be very intricate and fascinating. The instructors were knowledgeable, welcoming and easy to understand.

This was a great workshop if you want a hands on experience. Lovely instructors and the process has been modernised/simplified for tourists so you’re not spending hours tying little bits of fabric. You end up with a beautiful silk scarf to take away. The museum is also very interesting.
