Han pasado tres décadas desde la desaparición del comunismo. A pesar del tremendo crecimiento que Rumania ha experimentado desde entonces, los restos de este régimen aún son notables. Es por eso que la mayoría de los aspectos de la vida cotidiana fueron transformados por el comunismo: de la clase política a la atención de salud pública a la arquitectura urbana. Ubicada en el centro de la ciudad, la Plaza Unirii fue diseñada durante la última fase del comunismo en Rumania. Espectacular gracias a sus espléndidas fuentes, también está atravesada por la avenida más grande de Bucarest: el antiguo Boulevard Victoria del Socialismo. Estar de pie aquí y dar un paseo por el bulevar revelará la visión megalómana que el dictador rumano tenía reservado para Bucarest.
El Palacio del Parlamento es el segundo edificio más grande del mundo después del Pentágono y el edificio administrativo más caro. Veremos este edificio desde el exterior y nos haremos una idea fiel de su gigantesco tamaño. Para ello, se necesitaban grandes cantidades de dinero, materiales y esfuerzo de trabajo. Es más, esta estructura se hizo sometiendo al pueblo rumano a escasez de todo tipo durante el decenio de 1980. Escucharás toda la historia de cómo se hizo este enorme edificio, lo que los lugareños piensan al respecto mientras lo ven desde diferentes ángulos. Al otro lado del palacio se encuentra el edificio de la Academia Romana, una construcción a gran escala en un estilo similar. Estaba destinado al uso de la esposa del dictador, Elena Ceausescu. Sin embargo, como varios otros edificios de la década de 1980, solo estaba a medio terminar. Hoy en día, una gran parte de ella queda en ruinas como un doloroso recordatorio de la visión megalómana del dictador de Bucarest

I am deeply disappointed with this experience; it is definitely not worth the price. The tour guide (I believe his name was Stefan) had a terrible attitude. The entire time he was rushing us and didn't give us enough time to actually enjoy the places we visited. The icing on the cake was when he called me just to yell at me because I decided to stay behind instead of returning with the group. Since I couldn’t enjoy the castles properly, I explained to him that it was my birthday and I wanted to stay longer to explore. He rudely snapped back, asking if I thought he was going to wait for me until tomorrow. Terrible service altogether. He didn’t explain anything well; we paid for a Spanish tour, but he spoke in English most of the time, and when he did speak Spanish, it was barely understandable. On top of that, he was rude and completely lacked empathy.
I really enjoyed the Bucharest Under Communism: Life, Terror & Hope tour last weekend and it was a really great experience. The tour was very interesting and well explained, with lots of insights into what life was actually like during the communist period. Also as a bonus we got overall tips for the city (where to eat, where to go to etc) The guide made the history easy to understand and engaging, sharing stories that you wouldn’t get just by reading or visiting on your own. It really helps you see Bucharest or Romania from a local.

Stefania was an incredible guide from start to finish! She communicated before the tour, met the two of us (no one else booked on) in pouring rain (our choice, we were unable to do any other day, though this was offered to us) and Stefania was so knowledgeable, professional and kind. The 3+ hours tour flew by and we had a sense of the city of Bucharest and its people that no other experience in our visit had provided for us. Thankyou Stefania!!

We had already done the morning tour of the old city and in the afternoon we also did the “communism” tour. Laura was professional, nice and explained so many things that we did not know.
