Más que un simple viaje visual, este recorrido desentraña la historia de 45 años de gobierno comunista, ayudándole a ver más allá del colorido presente de Bucarest. Comenzamos frente al Ateneo Rumano, símbolo de la ciudad antes de que el comunismo se afianzara. Aquí descubrirá cómo se impuso brutalmente el régimen al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial: el control de Stalin sobre Europa del Este, el terror de la Policía Secreta de la KGB, las deportaciones masivas a Siberia y la destrucción sistemática de la prensa libre, la propiedad privada y la cultura misma.

Muchas de estas joyas arquitectónicas fueron reconstruidas o restauradas para reparar agujeros de bala y cicatrices sociales que aún quedan, décadas después de la caída del comunismo.
La última parada te lleva al corazón del antiguo Centro Cívico Comunista, la Plaza de la Constitución, donde se encuentra el colosal Palacio del Parlamento, el segundo edificio más grande del mundo después del Pentágono. Su oscura historia te fascinará, pero aún no hay spoilers. Solo hay que saber esto: esconde siete pisos subterráneos, búnkeres atómicos y una red secreta de túneles debajo de todo. Después de contemplar el imponente exterior del palacio, su guía lo acompañará de regreso al casco antiguo, donde concluye el recorrido".

This used to be known as the Palace Square until they changed the name in 1989. Today it is surrounded by the National Museum of Art of Romania, the Athenaeum concert hall, the University of Bucharest library, and the Athénée Palace Hotel. There's a modern monument raised in its center that looks like a potato on a stick. This square is associated with the end of the communist regime in Romania. It's where the then Communist leader Ceauşescu delivered his final speech in December 1989 that caused a popular revolt leading to the end of the communist rule. So there's really much more to see in this place than meets the eye. Some knowledge about Romanian history helps you appreciate this square more.
We had a wonderful time with Mihai, learning about the history that shaped Bucharest and Romania. So much to learn, he has such a deep and insightful perspective. We highly recommend!

Mihai’s warm welcome really set the tone of the the day. He is extremely knowledgable and personable. You will get out of this tour as much or as little as you like and his real skill is tailoring the experience into what you want to get out of it as he has a natural ability to adapt to the audience. As a keen historian, this tour was absolutely perfect for me as he engaged in discussion and sharing opinions with me, as opposed to a pre made speech which other guides would give. The private tour of communism was amazing. Our guide Andra met us at our hotel lobby so we did not have to locate a separate location. Andra was very informative and honest. She shared many first hand personal experiences from her family life. This approach made the experience come alive. She planned the walking tour in a very sequential manner helping us to understand how the rule of communism affected the population. At the conclusion of the tour she asked how she could help us. As a result she walked with us to our next location. We highly recommend this tour and Andra as a guide. Worth every penny. You won’t be disappointed.
