Price - performance not OK.

We started the Vermeer Centrum with high expectations. Unfortunately, these were not fulfilled. Little worth seeing, a sober building, bad information. Price Performance 15 € totally overdrawn for so little worth seeing. We were very disappointed.

Amazing

To those who cry that this isn't an art exhibit; of course it's not, and it doesn't suggest to be, so do your homework. This is an awesome primer on Vermeer and the line-up of reproductions displayed in chronological order is a terrific way to put his work into perspective. The area around the Center is historic so take time to see the Vermeer plaque where The Mechelen once stood and the Golden ABC building where Jacob Dissius stored 21 pictures that went to auction after his death in 1696.

Profanisation of fine art

This is such a disgrace for people with true sentiment for art. If you a true fan of Vermeer, please skip this! This is not only a total waste of money and time (we left quickly) but an emotional wound! We have seen all of Vermeer's works in Amsterdam several years ago and it really hurt to pay for cheap and bad quality reproductions.Thank you but NO THANK YOU.

We are sorry you left with such a bad feeling. We clearly indicate that we show reproductions of all of his works (these have been made in co-operations with all relevant museums around the world). What the Vermeer Centrum Delft shows is the story about Vermeer, his city, his technique, his unique use of light, his use of color. A visit to our center is not about the quality of the paintings: seeing the real works can not be beat. It is about learning all there is to learn about the painter.

I disgrace to art

Hoping to see a few of Vermeer's paintings, famous for the incredible light that seems to shine from them, we were bitterly disappointed. The whole so called "museum" is filled with cheap reproductions (photos of the paintings) and other works inspired by Vermeer's. This is a disgrace, no one who has even a small affinity to the world of art would do such a thing, exploiting the image of a great master to rip tourists off. Save yourselves the 15€ ticket and buy yourself a book about the artist, I assure you the photos in it will be a better way to learn about him. Photos of paintings are NOT art.

We clearly indicate on our website, other platforms and even the moment you buy a ticket at the counter that we do not have any real works of Vermeer. The Vermeer Centrum Delft shows digital reproductions of all Vermeers works. As you may have seen in our exhibition the original works have been acquired by the most famous museums in the world and to see them would require extensive travel. We are not a museum, we do not call ourselves a museum, we are a Vermeer exhibition, where you can see all his works together, so you can experience the change in size, colours, themes. Also you could have learned about the painter, his city, his uses of light, colour, perspective.

Worthwhile!

A very comprehensive and informative exhibit of Vermeer’s life and career. The lower floor contains reproductions of all of his works in chronological order and in their original size, each labeled with their current location. There are additional displays which provide helpful background about the city of Delft, the art scene, and the role of guilds during Vermeer’s time. The other floors feature his technique, use of light, and recurrent themes in his paintings. The free audioguide and videos are excellent. If you appreciate Vermeer’s work or want to learn more about him this is a worthwhile visit.

Dear C, thank you for your comprehensive review. As Vermeer was known as the 'sfinx of Delft' we have done our best to gather all there is to know about this remarkable person, his family life, his works, his technique and his city. Glad you enjoyed it. Kind regards!

Extremely interesting and instructive

Beautiful visit, although there are no paintings of the painter there are reproductions of all his works, the map of where you can see them and very interesting all the explanation that is given regarding the use of light by Veermer. Also interesting is the video in which they show how the restorations of the works are carried out, certainly a stop not to be missed as a completeness of a cultural tour.

A glimpse into the life of Vermeer

Very rewarding. There are copies of his work with very clear descriptions of how he painted it and why. Let's take a look inside his head. Instructive. A glimpse into his life.

Explanations of the paintings, the sophisticated use of light

If you want to see pictures of the famous Dutch painters, you are wrong here! Here are explanations of the paintings by Vermeer, but I had obtained them in advance by means of (used) illustrated Vermeer book from Taschen Verlag. What was still interesting for me: the then well-known technique of the camera obscura, precursor of today's photo camera and the sophisticated use of light, also demonstrated in light chambers. With Rembrandt with his light-dark painting, there is no such use of light.
