RedClay Tours’ Civil Rights Tour in Birmingham was truly exceptional. I’ve been on a lot of historical tours over the years, and this one stood out because it went far beyond simply sharing dates, facts, and stories. The tour provided a rich understanding of the history of the South and helped connect the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow to the struggle for civil rights and equality for African Americans in this country. But what made the experience so powerful was the way that history was brought to life on a human level. Many tours can tell you what happened. This tour helped us understand the emotional cost of racism—what these policies and attitudes meant to real people, families, and communities. It challenged us not only to think about our history, but also to consider our common humanity and what we can learn from that history today. It was thoughtful, honest, moving, and incredibly informative. This was easily one of the highlights of our time in Birmingham, and I would highly recommend RedClay Tours to anyone who wants to better understand Birmingham, the Civil Rights Movement, and this important part of American history.
Exceptional tour!!! Took this tour to learn more about Civil Rights movement in Alabama and it didn't disappoint. Our guide Clay had enormous knowledge of that time period in American history and presented it in a very accessible way. He answered all our questions and gave us recommendations on the sources to further deepen our understanding of that time. Highly recommend!!!!!
I had Mike as my tour guide and he was great! The tour itself was great, a lot of good information from someone who lived and grew up in Birmingham during some of the time period we were covering. I would definitely recommend this tour to family and friends when they visit.
This was well worth the money! Our tour guide knew the area very well and had many stories. We walked parks and neighborhoods getting the opportunity to feel what people went thru during these times. He kept it fun and exciting even my 2-14year old daughter enjoyed the tour. There was more info than just civil rights it is definitely history of the city.
Clay was extremely well-informed, thorough, professional, patient, and knowledgeable throughout our visit. He took the time to answer all of our questions and made the experience enjoyable. I definitely plan on coming back with my family and highly recommend him to anyone looking for excellent service. He was also snazzily dressed!
Mike was an outstanding Tour Guide. He did an excellent job of explaining and educating us on historical Civil Rights events.
I have rarely taken a better tour than this one! Our guide was an expert on the subject of Birmingham and its troubled history around racial issues, and presented the history factually but also with humanity. We saw several important sites around the city, and when it made sense to let us have a moment to absorb what we had seen and heard, he did just that. Well done! I highly recommend.
This tour really brings home the people, places and the events that drove the civil rights battle in Birmingham. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable - highly recommend this as part of your Birmingham, Alabama experience.
