Its a very exhilarating experience. Fun for everyone. The staff are very patient and helpful. Be prepared to walk up the dunes each time. It will feel very hard but worth the effort. Be ready for sand everywhere on you.
Was a great experience and definitely a must do while in Kitty Hawk! The guides worked very well together, communicated very well and seemed to genuinely care about us having the best experience possible and our safety. Listen to all the advice- sunscreen, water are a must. Also, you need to be able to walk in sand a decent distance, and uphill after each flight. Wind conditions weren't the best on our day, but they offered several different options such as rescheduling or reducing to 3 vs 5 flights (with a partial refund which came surprisingly very quick!). Overall great company would definitely do this experience.
You do not go as far into the air as the images in the advertising and marketing would make you believe. It is a pretty limited ride but it was still fun and it was nice to be able to have 5 runs. Our guides were awesome! Keep in mind that you will spend time laying on sand - many times - and you may even end up landing flat and basically sliding into the sand with the glider on top of you. I'd suggest capris! cover your thighs and knees. Also, it ways to wear shoes but we all did it barefoot.
A great introduction to hang gliding. Great instruction ahead of the activity well prepared you for a great experience. Instructors are knowledgable and kept a positive and encouraging environment throughout the activity!
Relax and enjoy the ride and don’t worry if you end up eating a little sand. Hope that you end up with good winds for the day . Instructors tended to be very patient.
So much fun. Very hot out on the dunes bring plenty of water. All of the guides were great and gave good instruction
What an unforgettable experience! We went hang gliding for the first time on the 4th of July—America’s 250th anniversary—at Jockey’s Ridge, and it was an absolute blast! Our instructor, Lawson (“Legs”), was fantastic. He brought incredible energy, kept everyone laughing, and made the entire experience fun while making us feel safe and confident. The adventure starts with a brief training session before you’re fitted with a helmet and harness. Then it’s time to hike to the top of the massive sand dunes. Each person gets five flights, rotating with the rest of the group, and the instructor carries the glider back to the top after every run (which we definitely appreciated!). Each flight lasts around 10 seconds, but it feels amazing soaring over the dunes. The landings are surprisingly easy—either on your feet or with a soft belly landing. This was such a unique activity and something we’d absolutely recommend to anyone visiting the Outer Banks. It also makes for some epic photos and videos you’ll treasure forever! Pro tip: Bring plenty of water and stay hydrated—the hike up those sand dunes is no joke! And book the first morning slot available.
It was a lot of fun. Highly recommend. Staff was great and very friendly. Only down fall is climbing the dunes.
This was a great beginner experience with a very low chance of messing up and injuring yourself. It will either allow you check off hang gliding from your list of cool things you can say you have done, or it will give you the itch for more. At most you will get 10-15 feet off the ground and you will land in sand. There is plenty of instruction before you even make an attempt and the staff are very patient and kind. This is such a unique experience and it will make a great memory.
Definitely good for beginners! We had never tried hang gliding so this was a fun introduction without the risk of being super high! The instructors were all very positive and gave good feedback to help us improve! We’re 57 but there were also kids and it worked well for everyone! I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in a fun afternoon!
