FIVE STARS for our driver guide, Red. He was terrific! He had lots of good info on the area, how to get the best photos, what to do with our free time, etc. He kept us all on time and checked in frequently to be sure everyone was doing well. He also did his best dealing with issues brought on by lack of communication and bad equipment the company provided. ONE STAR for Banff Explorer. Lots of issues with communication and quality. 1. I reached out to the company via the Viator app to get clarity on the meeting point, since two points were listed and they were a block apart. They never responded. 2. The company didn’t tell us what bus to look for once we did reach the spot. 50 people were going up to every driver asking if they were the right bus. We finally found a guy who thought he was driving our bus. It didn’t have the Banff Explorer name on the side. We boarded the bus. Ten minutes later, our actual driver guide came on the bus and got the correct people off and onto his bus. The first guy was with the company apparently, but about had the people that got on were assigned to a different bus. We were grateful to have Red as our new driver because he knew what was going on. The company really needed to tell us how to find the bus so everyone wasn’t asking every single driver that pulled in. In fact, the company name on Viator was 1A Scenic Route Tours by Banff while the name on most of the buses was Banff Explorer. 3. The bus was in very rough shape. The door was broken and wouldn’t stay closed. On the way back from Lake Moraine, our driver had to pull over at least three times (twice on the freeway!) to close it again when it flew open. Additionally, it was a hot summer day and the air conditioning didn’t work. The windows did not open. I was near the front and it was very hot there—the people in the back said it was horrible. I hope everyone remembers that the drivers and the company are two different sets of people-remember to tip your guides and drivers for what they do, not the mistakes of the company. They are out there working hard to give us a great day—be sure to thank them for it! I would not recommend this company and hope our awesome driver can find a job with a better outfit.
There was a mix-up of the meeting spot. Multiple attempts to try and contact the shuttle company were made but zero responses back. Failure to communicate of the location of pick and failure to reschedule the tour was disappointing especially how expensive parking is.
The meeting point was provided in plain English on the booking confirmation and pickup instructions. A passenger going to a different location does not make the published meeting point incorrect. Our shuttle departed from the designated location on schedule. Drivers cannot circulate through Banff’s parking lots searching for guests who are not where their booking tells them to be, nor can the departure be delayed for everyone else. We understand that missing a tour is frustrating, but parking expenses, navigation mistakes, and failure to arrive at the confirmed meeting point are not service failures by the operator. Rescheduling after a missed departure is also subject to availability and is not guaranteed. This review leaves out the most important detail: the correct meeting location was already supplied. A one-star rating cannot turn clear written instructions into a company communication failure.
Great trip. Well organized and we had plenty of time at each location. Took the stress out of finding parking.
The tour bus arrived late without any signs so we had to ask each driver if we were on their route. After finally getting on the correct bus, our driver wasn't even aware of the stops listed on the itinerary. He first told us we only had 1 hour at the 2 destinations but after multiple people clarified our itinerary, he called his boss who told him it was 1 1/2 hours at each stop. Finally, to top of the not so organized trip, our tour bus broke down & our tour guide ended up finding us spots on other busses to get us back to our final destination. In the end, the tour guide did try to help us & we're grateful for that.
Your review confirms that the driver checked the itinerary, corrected the stop times to the full 1½ hours at each destination, and personally arranged seats on other buses when the vehicle experienced an unexpected mechanical issue. Was the day perfectly smooth? No. The vehicle arrived late, there was confusion during boarding, and the driver initially misunderstood the timing. Those are fair concerns, and we acknowledge them. However, once the itinerary was clarified, you received the correct time at both destinations. When the bus later broke down, the guide did not abandon anyone on the roadside—he actively found alternative transportation and made sure everyone reached the final destination safely. Mechanical problems are frustrating, but they can happen to any transportation company. What matters is how the situation is handled. Your own final sentence acknowledges that the guide helped and that you were grateful. Apparently, correcting the itinerary, delivering the scheduled stops, and rescuing the group from an unexpected breakdown still earns one star. Tough crowd.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! AVIOD THIS! If I can give a 0-star rating, I will. The bus have NO AC, it's even hotter than outdoors. The air circulation is really bad we almost fainted in the bus and there is NO WINDOW that we can open. The bus they have is old and the bus driver said the AC is on which is definitely NOT, the AC feels like it broke down years ago. We are not sweating outdoor but in the bus that’s crazy! And the bus of the tour in front of us broke down so they combine the tour into one, and cause another delay of 30 mins ish.
You left the tour, received your refund, and were no longer required to continue in the vehicle—yet somehow the outrage tour is still running. Yes, another vehicle experienced a mechanical issue, and passengers were temporarily consolidated while the situation was handled. That caused an approximately 30-minute delay. Mechanical issues are inconvenient, but they are not planned, and ensuring passengers were transported safely was the priority. Regarding the air conditioning, the driver confirmed it was operating, although we understand it may not have felt cool enough during an unusually warm and crowded period. Once you expressed that you were uncomfortable, you were allowed to get off and were refunded. At that point, the matter was resolved: you did not complete the tour, and you did not pay for a service you did not use. We understand frustration, but claiming guests “almost fainted” while continuing to post dramatic accusations after receiving a refund does not provide a fair or balanced account of what happened. We regret the mechanical disruption, but a full refund is a resolution—not an invitation to rewrite the incident as a disaster movie.
Very comfortable ride with a nice and approachable driver Dan. We are so happy having a filipino driver on board.
We loved our experience! In addition to the breathtaking scenery on the road, our guide Dan gave us tips for getting the best views during our stops at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Whether by pointing us toward where to go for a short hike at Lake Louise or by explaining where to go at Moraine Lake to get the best view, we had a better visiting experience thanks to our guide Dan. I recommend it 100%!
The driver was funny and very knowledgeable. The ride was nice and smooth. We arrive on time and learn something new especially the $20 dollar.
Was a great experience! Perfect amount of time at each location. Red our driver had a great sense of humor. He was always on time and we never had to wait for the bus like others. If you are thinking of taking a shuttle ask for red. Morraine lake was my favorite lake of the two.
Beautiful our driver Red told wonderful stories not only to educate but he made us laugh and kept us safe
