La observación de aves alrededor de Kigali es una introducción a la avifauna del este de África, ya que estos lugares son una mezcla de hábitats, incluidos pastizales, humedales y lagos (estanques). La observación de aves en uno (o todos) de los sitios mencionados, es una introducción a las aves de Ruanda y también tiene la oportunidad de ver aves raras como Oliveback de cuello blanco, Papyrus Gonolek y Papyrus Canary.

Itinerario
Tenemos una observación de aves de 3 horas en el Parque Ecoturístico de Humedales Urbanos de Nyandungu principalmente para ver aves. Nyandungu es un humedal recientemente restaurado dentro de la ciudad de Kigali; se encuentra en 1,5 km del aeropuerto internacional de Kigali y a solo 25 minutos en coche del centro de la ciudad. Se registraron más de 100 aves en esta área entre otras Oliveback de cuello blanco, Apalis de pecho amarillo, Barbet de doble diente, etc.
Umusambi es un nombre kinyarwanda que significa Grulla coronada de gramo. El pueblo es un santuario de reciente creación para salvar a la población de Gra-crown Crane del comercio ilegal de mascotas. Beneficiando la protección del sitio, más aves están llegando al lugar para alimento y reproducción. Muchas especies de Kingfisher, es decir, Pied, Malaquita y Pigmeo Africano utilizan estanques de agua creados como fuente de alimento. Pasamos de 2 a 3 horas de la mañana para recorrer el santuario antes de nuestro almuerzo.
Los humedales de Bugesera, especialmente los de Gashora, albergan especies de papiros y aves acuáticas. Estos lugares son el hogar de Papiro Gonolek, Papiro Canary, Cisiticola de Carruther y bandadas de Ibis Brillantes. Puede tener una mañana o tarde en este lugar para ver las aves más húmedas de la región de África Oriental.

My girlfriend and I had really interesting and well organized two days of birding around Kigali with our guide Claudien. Although we were absolute beginners, he gave us a great insight in the colourful world of birds there and is an expert in this field- don‘t miss it when you visit Rwanda!

We had the chance to go on a birding tour in Kigali, and to say it was wonderful is an understatement. Our guide, Joseph, was amazing, so knowledgeable but most of all, incredibly passionate. His love for birds and conservation is truly contagious. We enjoyed spending the day with him and our driver, Alex, so so much. We only wished we had more time to absorb more knowledge. If you like birds, book this tour, you will not regret it. If you don’t like birds, you should also book this tour, I’m sure you’ll like them by the end. I can’t stress enough how amazing Joseph was. We are so happy we found this tour, and honestly can’t wait to come back and go birding with him again. We were able to identify over 60 different species of birds. Thank you so so much, we truly loved it.

The Guide is very knowledgable, he knows all the Bird names by heart, knows where to look for them and points out facts and behaviour. Wonderful landscape, too. Take a raincoat during rain season 🙃 Pick up, drop off and Lunch Break worked well, too.

Claudien proved to be a punctuel and seriously expert birder, equipped with quality binocs and scope and call recordings and deep familiarity with the species of the area. He is flexible and easy company. The urban wetland is perfect for birding: paved pathway cutting through marshes, ponds, and woodlands, litter'free, uncrowded, and secure.

This was an unplanned trip for me whilst at a conference in Kigali. I had an extra day free before heading back home. Claudien made himself available and organized a great day in the wetlands. I cannot recommend Birding and Educational Tours enough! The experience far exceeded my expectations. Claudien’s expertise in identification of local species, and knowledge of where to find them, was invaluable. We managed to see 69 different species including some rare sightings. Booking was easy, the tour started on time, lunch was lovely, and the birding locations were excellent. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe throughout. It was also wonderful to have the opportunity to support a local business. Claudien went above and beyond to ensure I was able to get the most from the experience.

I had a great time with Claudien, a knowledgeable and academically-trained birdwatcher. I saw about 40 species of birds in a day in large part due to his expertise. I would happily choose other tours with this team.
