The tour was meant to start at 7am, got a message the night before saying we would be picked up at 8am. The driver didn't arrive until 9am. We then drove from 1hr 30min to a 2/3 closed market. The tour was meant to include a market tour where you buy the ingredients and they demonstrate how to bargain, the driver brought some fruit and told us to walk around the very empty market. We then drove for another hour to the cooking school. I didn't really learn anything. I chopped a few ingredients, mixed it with some chicken mince and cooked it on charcoal. My partner help make curry and soup. We sat down for lunch which was okay. The black rice pudding was burnt (they cooked it) and inedible. The tour was meant to include breakfast, lunch and dinner - it only included lunch. We then drove for 2 hours back to our hotel. The cooking school part was 40min max where we mainly chopped ingredients. The location of the school was lovely and the staff were very nice. Just not what was advertised and we pretty much wasted our whole day driving.
The tour was breathtaking. It all started with a food market where you can buy some fruits for your dessert later on in the meal. The cooking class was in a restaurant with a very beautiful rice field and an amazing view of the rainforest. The chef was there to show my wife and I, the steps and process for making the dish. After we were done, we enjoyed the amazing food we created. It was delicious! Even though it is a little far out in the country, it is definitely worth the experience.
This cooking class was literally the highlight day of our Bali trip! There was nothing touristy about cooking outdoors in the open with an incredible scenic backdrop, utilising amazing local produce and learning from Neuman (a Balinese MasterChef!) and the rest of Gede's team! Highly recommend to anyone with an interest in cooking and learning traditional Balinese methods
It’s not everyday you get views of a rainforest while you cook. This experience was amazing and an absolute highlight of our trip to Bali. You could feel the passion these people had for their community and culture. The day started with a tour of a local market, then a tour of the rice fields as you make your way to the cooking school. If you want to find a way to support a little Balinese community first hand, especially after the struggles of Covid, book yourself into this tour - you won’t regret it at all.
Hi Sir, Thank you very much for your great attention, I hope the cooking class activity that you have done in my place, will have spesial memory for your holiday in Bali Best regards Gede
Started off with a morning market tour. The market is in a building (vs. a traditional open air market) and many stalls were closed due to Ramadan or covid. The most enjoyable part is the cooking class which is the main point. We cooked 6 dishes… a young papaya soup, curry chicken, chicken sate lilit, 2 veggie dishes and a dessert. We prepared everything from scratch. Food was tasty as we cooked under the supervision of a local chef. Cook with a valley view right in front of you. Very enjoyable, don’t miss it!
Thank you very much for your great attention with our cooking class
Me and my girlfriend had such a great experience on this tour. It was really lovely to see what the real bali was like. It was a long drive over to the village but our guide gave us lots of information about the local community and bali itself on the way. We were first taken to the local village market where we picked our own ingredients. We were then invited into the family's own home where we were offered tea from leaves in the garden and homemade snacks whilst the cooking area was prepared. We were then very hands on with the cooking, being guided step by step through 2 meals and a dessert. Once the food was cooked, we ate it with the whole family and guide in their dining area. After dinner we were asked to take part in the daily religious offering where we were taught how to make things our of coconut tree leaves as the young girl in the family performed a traditional dance for us. For anyone wanting to learn how to cooking balinese dishes in an authentic environment, this is the tour for you.
