⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hands Down the Best Day in Belize! Erick is an Amazing Guide! If you're heading to San Ignacio, doing the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave tour with Erick is a total must! From the very start, the whole day was pure fun. Erick made the trek through the jungle and the river swims feel like an incredible adventure. Swimming right into the dark mouth of the cave, wading through subterranean streams, and scrambling over giant boulders was an absolute blast—and Erick kept the energy high while making sure everyone felt totally safe. Once inside, Erick brought the Maya history to life in a way that was super engaging and fun. He walked us through the sacred history, the ancient pottery artifacts, and the famous Crystal Maiden with awesome stories that made the past feel totally real and exciting, without ever feeling like a dry lecture. The ATM Cave is easily one of the most incredible adventures in Central America, but having Erick as our guide took it to another level. Unforgettable energy, super cool history, zero stress, and a tons-of-fun experience from start to finish! Ask for Erick—you won't regret it!
Top adventure experience. Unique, wonderful, exciting, and fulfilling. Highly recommend to those seeking a bit of adrenaline.
Andrei, thank you for saying these words! It was our absolute honor to host you and your family for this “top adventure experience”. Your choice of words are exactly how we would describe what it’s like to experience the ATM Cave! Please let us know if and when you are in Belize next so we can once again be a part of your Belizean adventures! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
ATM is an amazing adventure but what really made it come to life was our guide, James Martinez. James was passionate about the history, geology, archaeology as well as the personal connection he had with the people and the local area. He knew the history inside and out and he spent over 5 1/2 hours with us inside the cave. He kept it safe, interesting and humorous all the way through. My son and I both felt it was the best part of our Belizian adventure which included San Pedro, Caye Caulker, San Ignacio and the Chaa Creek Lodge. Our driver, Noah Gordon was also very kind and helpful. We were running a little late and he waited for us at the pick-up point. Afterward, we enjoyed a delicious meal together. They provided towels for the showers and everything we needed to make it a great experience.
Grant, thank you for such amazing words! We are thrilled to read all about your amazing experience and how James and Noah made the experience even better. We are in total agreement that James, our guide, is passionate not only about the tour itself but the history, geology and everything related to the ATM cave; glad you felt safe, entertained and informed. Noah is amazing too, we will be sure to mention that his patience and kindness made the trip a memorable one. And thank you for mentioning that the ATM cave was the best part of your Belize adventure: we are honored to be a part of making that happen for you and your son. We look forward to welcoming you both again when you are in Belize next time! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
This was such an amazing experience!! James was an exceptional tour guide. He was knowledgeable in so many areas (e.g. history, architecture, etc) and provided us with great information. We would recommend this tour 100%. Once in a lifetime experience!
Cassaundra, thank you for saying that! We are in total agreement with you in saying that this is a once in a lifetime experience. And we are also in complete agreement that James is exceptional! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
This truly was a once in a lifetime experience. The cave is in excellent condition & then to see and learn about how the ancient Myan peoples used the cave was so interesting. This was an athletic adventure with some very tight spaces and is not something people with limited mobility. James our guide was informed and passionate about the sharing this experience with others.
Lisa, we have to agree with you in saying that this truly is a once in a lifetime experience! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed learning about the Mayas and how they utilized the cave for ceremonial purposes. James is indeed very informed and passionate about what he does! And thank you for mentioning that this experience is an ‘athletic adventure’ and that it is not suited for people with limited mobility. We try our best to describe the tour as clearly as possible for our guests to know what to expect before attending. We look forward to hosting you on your future Belize adventures! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
We had the best time! Ruwa Tours took excellent care of us and our guide, Eric, was amazing. The lunch was fantastic. I recommend asking for an earlier pick up time, as the cave can get crowded.
Thank you so much Ellen! We appreciate you taking the time to leave such glowing words for us. We pride ourselves on offering excellent care to our guests and we definitely agreed - Eric is indeed amazing! And thank you for sharing that great tip with fellow travelers, the experience is indeed way better when visited earlier. We look forward to hopefully hosting you when you are in Belize next time for another great adventure! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
This was definitely an experience of a lifetime amount of history that we were able to get so close to in our guide. Erik was a pleasure. He was extremely knowledgeable and made the experience enjoyable. I would rate this experience a 12 out of 10.
Shawn, thank you for leaving this amazing review! We appreciate you mentioning that this experience was that of a lifetime and that you were able to learn so much history from Eric, our guide. He is indeed extremely knowledgeable. A 12 out of 10 is spectacular and we are honored! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
Bernadine was AMAZING! As soon as we started the walk to the caves, she is so knowledgeable and it felt like we were listening to a podcast or audio book with how well she explained the history of the region. Then in the cave she did such a remarkable job of making sure we felt safe and described all that was to be seen. The tour never felt rushed and she truly made it a wonderful experience.
Thank you Allison for this heart warming review! We are delighted that you had a great time and enjoyed Bernadine’s vast knowledge and “audio book” quality explanation of the culture and history of the cave. She always goes above and beyond ensuring that she shares and takes good care of you. We look forward to hosting you next time! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
This is a somewhat physical trip. There is a hike to the cave entrance with 3 water crossings along the way. You are on foot and the water can get about chest high for an average adult. You are equipt with a helmet, headlamp and life jacket and there are ropes to guide you across the water. Then the entrance of the cave is accessed by swimming or wading in water before you begin your roughly 90 min tour of the cave. There is some mild climbing and wading through the water as you move deeper into the cave. Your guide will point out points of interest along the way. There is a lot of information to take in along the way and lots of history about the Mayan artifacts and remains found in the cave. All very interesting and fun to learn about as you twist your way through the cave. I have been in several other caves but this Good experience is unique as you are guided through certain areas of the cave and climbing across other parts to access all of the point of interest. Very unique and differ them all of the other caves I have been in before. You are required to have a guide in order to access the game. They were all well trained and well educated about the cave itself and keep safety and reservation of the cave as a top priority. If you like adventure and something that's a little off the beaten path. This is a great experience. Very unique.
Matthew, thank you so much for this detailed review! We truly appreciate you taking the time to provide useful information for fellow travelers as they consider adding this tour to their Belize bucket list. You are indeed right for saying that it is an extremely physical activity and might not be for everyone. Our guides are well trained and knowledgeable - your safety and preserving the cave’s authenticity is our top priority. We are glad you were able to learn so much about the ATM’s history and culture while enjoying this “very unique” experience. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to hosting you on your next Belize adventure! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
Great experience! James was excellent. Geology, mythology, philosophy, human history… and (wet, dark, tight, beautiful) caving, oh my! Be sure to book the first available tour of the day as the site gets crowded, slow and more touristy / less magical as the day goes on!
Ryan, it thrills us that you and your family had a great experience with us! James is indeed excellent and we are glad you were able to learn so much from him. Thank you for pointing out that an earlier start is preferable before the site gets crowded. We hope to be able to welcome you and your family again for another great Belize adventure! With gratitude, The Ruwa Travels Team
