La Basílica de Santa Maria degli Angeli se encuentra a 4 km de Asís. Dentro de la Basílica se encuentra la Capilla de la Porciúncula; el lugar más amado por San Francisco y donde Dios le concedió gracias especiales. Inicialmente, la Porciúncula era una antigua capilla, rodeada por una pequeña porción de bosque (de ahí quizás el nombre) perteneciente a los benedictinos del Monasterio de S. Benedetto del Monte Subasio. Habiendo permanecido abandonada durante mucho tiempo, fue restaurada por Francisco que la alquiló al abad Teobaldo. Después de la muerte del Santo, alrededor de la iglesia surgieron algunos edificios permanentes: el coro de los frailes, varios pequeños oratorios y luego un pequeño convento. En la segunda mitad del siglo XVI, Pío V ordenó la construcción de una gran basílica que rodearía y protegería la Porciúncula y daría la bienvenida a las multitudes de peregrinos que continuamente acudían allí.
La Basílica de Santa Chiara es un edificio religioso, construido en estilo neorrománico, ubicado en Asís. La basílica se encuentra entre las más famosas de Italia y una de las más bellas de Umbría. La iglesia marca no sólo el centro histórico de la ciudad sino también un lugar significativo desde el punto de vista artístico y cultural. La Basílica de Santa Chiara fue construida por los monjes benedictinos, que deseaban honrar a Santa Chiara, nacida Agnese en 1194 y fallecida el 13 de septiembre de 1253. Actualmente, junto con la Porciúncula, el Eremo delle Carceri, la Chiesa Nuova y la Basílica de San Damián, la Catedral de San Rufino y obviamente la Basílica de San Francisco, es uno de los centros donde se concentra la peregrinación a Asís.
Espléndida residencia barroca con bóvedas con frescos de principios del siglo XVII de pintores de Umbría y Toscana. Se encuentra la Pinacoteca Comunale di Assisi, en su interior se encuentran un llamativo grupo de frescos medievales y renacentistas.
La Basílica de San Francisco de Asís, el lugar que conserva los restos mortales del santo seráfico desde 1230, es uno de los lugares de culto más importantes de Italia y del mundo. En el año 2000, la basílica fue incluida en la lista del patrimonio mundial de la UNESCO. La primera piedra de la Basílica de San Francisco de Asís fue colocada el 16 de julio de 1228, apenas dos días después de la muerte de Francisco y el día después de su proclamación como santo por el Papa Gregorio IX. Según la tradición, fue el propio Francisco quien indicó exactamente el lugar donde deseaba ser enterrado. La iglesia representa una de las piedras angulares de la difusión del gótico en Italia. Además de ser lugar de enterramiento de San Francisco, adquirió una importancia fundamental para el papado, que veía en la orden franciscana un gran aliado para estrechar lazos con las clases más humildes y populares. La construcción de la basílica fue iniciada en 1228 por el Papa Gregorio IX y luego consagrada en 1253 por el Papa Inocencio IV.

La Cúpula de Orvieto es una de las catedrales italianas más bellas, una obra maestra de la arquitectura gótica del centro de Italia. El magnífico edificio domina el acantilado en el que se encuentra Orvieto gracias a su tamaño. En particular, es conocido en todo el mundo el esplendor de su fachada, con sus torres que alcanzan una altura de unos 53 metros. No hay que olvidar el interior de la Cúpula, con maravillosas decoraciones y frescos realizados por algunos de los pintores más grandes del pasado, entre los que se encuentra el famoso Giudizio Universale de Luca Signorelli.
Explora Orvieto, una de las ciudades más antiguas de Italia, debe sus orígenes a la civilización etrusca: los primeros asentamientos se remontan al siglo IX a.C. y se ubicaron en el interior de las cuevas de toba creadas en el macizo sobre el que actualmente se encuentra la ciudad de Umbría. Aunque la fama de Orvieto está profundamente entrelazada con la de su magnífica catedral, la ciudad ofrece numerosas ideas e itinerarios histórico-artísticos, precisamente en virtud de sus antiguos orígenes. Además, situada sobre un acantilado, Orvieto ofrece unas vistas panorámicas realmente espléndidas.

Excellent! Tour assistant and driver were both very pleasant. On time departure. Beautiful drive. Tour guide Marco in Assisi was very thorough and excellent topic knowledge. Tour went long because he seemed to really enjoy what he does. Tour assistant pointed things out on the way, but also didn’t just talk at us the whole time. I cannot recommend the group at Welcome Italy enough for their day excursions. Cars are very clean and comfortable. We had paid for a small group tour but it ended up being only us which made the tour even more personal.

A full day of visits to Orvieto and Assisi, with an excellent pair: Elisabeth and Giuseppe, and a special guide in Assisi, Marco. My husband and I they really enjoyed the four Basilica tour with Dina as our tour guide and her colleague Stefano. Dina was very professional and knowledgeable all the subject matters. She gave us time to explore and pray and attend Mass at the Basilicas. It was truly a magnificent experience and a full day learning more about the history of our faith. Welcome Italy was such a great way for my wife and I to experience a full trip in Rome. We actually had three separate excursions with them. First we went to Castel Gandolfo and Nemi. After a full three days in Rome, this was such a quiet and relaxing day. Antoinetta was so personable and made us feel at home, and our driver Pietro was great. The second day we traveled with Marie and Pino to Orvieto and Assisi. Again, both were professional and it felt like we were traveling with old friends by the end of the day. Our third day we traveled with Cascia and Spoleto. Another day of being immersed with a rich understanding of the history thanks to our guide, Juliana, and driver Flavio. Disclaimer here… my wife and I are Catholic, and from that perspective we felt so close to the history of the church. The guides did a great job of understanding that and catering to it each day. Their recommendations on restaurants while traveling were top notch as well. I cannot say enough good things about the days we spent with Welcome Italy and will absolutely be using their services on our next trip to Italy!
